Hello everyone!

Let me apologize ahead of time for my ignorance, but I'm really looking for info about Firefly, and figured this was the place to ask. We watch a lot of sci-fi shows in our house, but somehow, Firefly got by us, and we never knew about it until it was already off the air.

On other sci-fi boards I heard a lot of great things about the show, and was happy to hear that the Sci-Fi Channel was going to start replaying the shows. However, I'm a bit confused. I thought Serenity was the first episode, but I also heard that a new movie is coming out, and THAT is called Serenity. On the SciFi.com website it shows that Serenity will be aired on July 22nd, but I don't know which one it is, and I don't want to watch them out of order.

So, my questions are: Is SciFi airing the episodes again? When will they be on? When is the movie coming out? Is it a TV movie, or is it a theatrical release? Do the events in the movie take place after the events in the last episode? Thanks for your help!

Is SciFi airing the episodes again? Yes.

When will they be on? July 22 Friday night

When is the movie coming out? September 30

Is it a TV movie, or is it a theatrical release? Theatrical.

Do the events in the movie take place after the events in the last episode? Yes, and there are also comics that bridge the gap between the series and the movie, but you don't have to read them to understand the movie.

Welcome to the 'verse. You won't regret it!

:)

Hello right back at ya!

As someone that found this show the same way you did, I recomend buying the DVD set. It was the best money I've ever spent!! The set clears up all your questions and is in order with no commercials, except for the self-imposed kind, and has loads of background goodies.

From what I understand, the movie takes place after the series, but I will differ to someone else whats seen the preview....

One thing I can guarantee....you won't be "potential" for long....happy viewing!!

Does what, exactly??

The movie definitely takes place after the events in the series.

Fanofscifi, welcome to the Browncoats (that is what we call ourselves)! The first two-hour pilot is entitled Serenity and the first feature length movie is entitled Serenity but they are two totally different stories.

Oh, and play Cantr II at www.cantr.net.

I really appreciate all your friendly words of welcome.

SAFEAT2ND, I just took your advice and ordered the DVD set from Amazon.com. I was going to watch the first few episodes on SciFi first, but with over 1300 raving reviews, I broke down and bought it. After I watch it I'm sure I'll be back on this board for more questions/discussion.

This seems like a really nice community - Thanks, again!

Welcome, FanOfSciFi! Pull up a chair, and have a beverege of your choice from the cooler. We love new folk around here.

It looks like Sci-Fi is going to run the series in order, starting with the 2-hour pilot. (Imagine that, showing the pilot first! Will wonders ever cease! ) And yes, the pilot episode "Serenity" is much not the movie "Serenity". The movie takes place several months after the last episode.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Welcome to the board and the big beautiful 'verse of Firefly.

I see Nywoe already answered all your questions about the series airing on Sci Fi Channel, the movie and where it fits in w/ the series. I am glad to see you made the investment in the DVD set. Believe me when I tell you that you will love the series and never regret buying it.

Now of course, once you are fully and truly a Browncoat (what the fanbase calls themselves) you will of course have to spread the word about the show and the upcoming movie. The more the merrier, and the more successful the DVD set and movie.

Stop on in often and fire away w/ your questions. We are only to happy to answer your questions and help a fellow fan out.

See you around.

As a new fan you might not even understand the comment made about scifi channel airing the pilot first. You can just check the backs of the dvd cases you'll be getting to see how FOX butchered the airing of Firefly. The pilot was actually shown last. I believe one of the commentaries even has someone saying, "well last is like first, it just comes later".

Anyway, as everyone has said, "welcome". I'm sure you'll love the series as much as we do. It's sorta tragic though, because you'll undoubtedly be left wanting more than there is.
