Ahh, it's good to see the fans also have access to print media, where we can shape public opinion!

It's interesting that the author quotes the DVD set as selling more than a million copies. Journalistic hyperbole or does he know something we don't?

I had the same thought but now that I look at the author's bio, I'm inclined to believe the former.

Jayne, your mouth is talkin. Might want to look into that.

I wouldn't believe that number for a second. Seems waaay too high. It would be nice for a good opening weekend having 1 million guarenteed ticket buyers to ensure $10m debut at the very least. That doesn't even factor in guests they may bring with them or people who just walk into the theatre, knowing absolutely nothing about the film.

Last official number we heard (200,000) was a year ago. I figure that at the very most, only 50,00-100,000 more copies have sold since then.

But let's do the math with regards to the Box Office. 250,000 anxious owners of the box set will spend $10 each. Let's assume they also bring 1 guess (there's definitely overlap between some movie-goers as fans seeing it together on opening night, but it's very likely people will manage to average one friend who's not an owner...some people might bring two, other's may bring none). So that's $5m gauranteed in the opening weekend. Also consider the fact that 4 million viewers across the US watched the series while it was on the air. If even 10 percent of those viewers who watched the show but never bought the series on DVD recognized "Serenity" as a coninuation of the series, then there's another $4m on opening weekend. Well, they don't want to go alone and bring in an average of one guest with them and there's another $4m dollars.

At this point it's very possible "Serenity" could take in $13M in the opening weekend without even appealing to mass audiences. Just think of all the people who'll see the trailers and tv spots in the coming months as well as those who just walk into the theatre unsure of which movie they want to see that evening. Those people are likely to make up the majority of moviegoers watching "Serenity", not the Browncoats.

Most importantly, though, is "Serenity"'s rewatchability. We all love watching these episodes again and again. I know I'll be seeing "Serenity" at least 3 times in theatres. Good word of mouth for this flick will also roll in additional viewers. I think "Serenity" definitely has lots of potential to become a sleeper hit...not that anyone here needs to hear that. Consider foreign revenue and DVD sales as well as other commericial products..."Serenity" will surely be profitable for Universal which can only be good for the flans.

Harken: "Seems odd that you would name your ship after a battle you were on the wrong side of."
Mal: "May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one."
