Apologies if this is repeated elsewhere, I have been on my hols and just found this out.

Apparently due to cutbacks the rather good BBC CULT is to close on July 15th. ( www.bbc.co.uk/cult/)

If any of you have ever used this please lodge a complaint with the Beeb: www.bbc.co.uk/complaints/

If you have never used it but like complaining please also add a gripe. It has been one of the better generic CULT websites and I will be sorry to see it go. It is also the second most popular sub-site they have (after the News) but is still considered less important than the other nonsense they will no doubt continue with. Again, sci-fi fans are given nothing but contempt...

Yep some parts will live (Doctor Who) but that kind of sucks, the joy was in having it all in one place, otherwise there isn't really any point - might as well just search on google or individual fansites.

Grrrrrrr, pesky BBC, grrrrrrr

It's partly budget cuts but also there's been a concerted effort by commercial publishers to trim the BBC's wings. A number of sites had to sacrificed to appease those deciding the terms of Charter Renewal and Cult was one of them.

Yes, it's saving them money but if the other magazines hadn't complained, Cult would still be running. Still, now that the BBC has withdrawn its "anti-competitive" offerings, I'm sure we're about to be inundated with commercial sites offering us webcasts like Shada or Ghosts of Albion, detailed images of classic comic books, full texts of out of print sci-fi novels, etc, etc.

*looks expectantly at the makers of SFX, Dreamwatch, Cult Times, etc, etc*

Any moment now, eh chaps?

I'm going to try and archive off the entire site just before it's deleted, for anybody interested. It's not an easy task, though.

Gorram tradgey if you ask me. And the Cult site was second in popularity only to the News section in a recent audience poll. If they weren't going to listen to it, why bother?

Bah. That is all.
