I read this over at the UB's, then noticed it also posted over at Whedonesque, but didn't see any mention of it over at FFF.net...so here you go!

Joss also mentions his plans for Serenity sequels in the 2nd paragraph...hilarity ensues.

Here's an odd little story:

Summer did read for Kitty in X3. I know because she called me and mentioned she was going to and did I know anything about the character (there were no 'sides' to study -- they had to get them when they came in). So the girl I turned into sort of a superhero in my movie was going to read for the character that most influenced ALL my girl-heroes, Kitty Pryde. Karmically funky. Anyhoo, she called me after and said it was very emotional and kind of like when she read for FIREFLY, she just got into a very intense groove. She started telling me about the scene she read and that's when I realized WHY it was kind of like she read for FIREFLY. 'Cause (as you may know) it was a scene I wrote for Astonishing X-Men issue #5. I assume they just didn't have sides ready and used that but this was like a karmic moebius strip, it was just too folded in on itself. In this time of odd, I turned to beer. (No I didn't. Stay in school.)

I don't know what the X-peeps are looking for -- or even if that other girl has really dropped out -- but for my money, Summer would make a wonderful Kitty. (And I don't say that lightly.) As long as it doesn't interfere with SERENITY II: RICARDO MONTALBAN'S STILL PISSED -- or, much more importantly, SERENITY III: SO VERY NUDE.

I have shared my tail. (Lord, that's what I actually typed! I mean "tale"! What will people think of me?) No tail sharing. Oh so lame.

now off to make blinis!

Heh.. I think Summer would make a good Kitty. However, I still think Summer would be perfect for a relatively new character that'll probably never be in a movie: X-23.

Actually I've heard that's changed - she was set, but the producers of LOST threw a hissy fit and told her that if she did that they'd kill off her character there.

Yay for hissy fits! ;). Maggie Grace is fine in Lost, but she's not Kitty. Anyway, the whole 'hissy fit' thing is more rumor and interpretation, but I have heard that they're looking to cast Kitty again.

Summer as Kitty? That would be shiny! I would really like to see Summer in some roles that would be something other than a crazy girl.

How weird is that. The producers used stuff from Astonishing X-Men for the auditions. Joss is right; how very karmic.

As for Summer playing Kitty, didn't we already see the character twice so far and each time it's been a different actress? And a different age for that matter? With that said, I wouldn't mind seeing Summer as Kitty. While the character was younger in the comics, 14 or 15, the producers have already taken liberties with some of the other characters and they turned out fairly well.

And regarding the link from superherohype.com, the article there says a teaser trailer for X3 will be shown with Fantastic Four. Wow, that was quick. Didn't they start filming like a couple of months ago?

It was Sumela Kay according to this very handy link: http://www.marveldirectory.com/individuals/s/shadowcat.htm. IMDB confirms that. That link also has a detailed history of Kitty Pryde which makes it sound like Summer would be a great fit for the role. Athletic, dancer, some martial arts.

really?! very interesting. i'd love to see summer as kitty pryde, she's a fantastic actress, hopefully serenity will spring board her career.
