OK, I'm starting a discussion thread because I don't see any that are raving enough about WS...
This show just keeps raising the standard for tele-drama.
The women: From Kaylee and River's happy apple romp to Inara's gentleness, (Sometimes it's hard to be oneself in the company of men...) to Zoe, Zoe, Zoe!
This was Zoe's ep. When she pulled Wash off the rack, and later her incredible action scene... Her courage and strength and beauty and POWER rocked my world.
Book obviously knows his way around a gunfight, and River looks like the new secret weapon. Jayne gets nobler and nobler, and it suddenly occurred to me that he is HOT.
Poor Kaylee crumbled, and she's going to have to work that out...in the arms of River?
Forget Simon and Kaylee, I'm rooting for Kaylee and River to pair up.
Of course Mal is made of cast-iron, Wash is noble as hell, etc. But Zoe is in a category by herself, in my opinion. As she calmly tucked Mal's ear into her bra...wow. Wow.

I was really blown away when River shot all of those gaurds, and after basiclly saying that she couldn't look at them. I would have to say that River is fastly becoming my favorite character.
I want to watch again and try to figure out in more depth what she and her brother were talking about because it seemed like River may have been saying more than I got the first time.

Can anyone confirm that Book didn't just shoot people in the kneecaps? It looked like he actually killed a guy in one scene. And actually according to the bible (I am not really sure but it seems that Book is some form of Christian) its really meant to be "though shall not murder" A murder would be an unjust killing. That is how the church justified its many bloody wars, and the inquisition.

I really enjoyed at the end how their was what seemed to be an unspoken conversation between River and Kayle that basiclly said "please don't make a big deal out of what happened". My question is if Kaylee will tell Simon, after all they are getting close

It looked as though River took a quick glance to see the locations of the baddies and then kept her eyes closed when she shot, knowing that seeing them would throw off her aim. See also The Fifth Element and Star Wars: A New Hope for similar situations.

Simon can be heard to say "Stay down or I'll shoot you" or something to that effect to one of the guards on the ground. This leads me to believe that Book was aiming for the kneecaps.

I highly recommend watching this show with closed captioning on. There's lots of little bits that can be missed otherwise.

Now what I got out of that scene was River taking almost the exact stance as Jayne in OOG. Sideways, shooting someone without looking at them.

That and the creepy way she mimics Kaylee's exact phrase after doing it. "Nothing in the 'verse can stop me." Kaylee says it after recapturing her apple, but River's action gave it real menace.

The more I get to know people the more I like my dogs.

What I got from that wasn't that she was humiliated, but that she now finds River a bit disturbing and doesn't want to have to think about her...

I agree with that, She's freaked out by River. I would be too.

I was riveted to the TV. My jaw dropped opened so many times that I can't even remember. Now that's entertainment!

Every episode of Firefly has been so different. Compare War Stories to Shindig, for instance, I enjoyed every minute of both of them, but talk about opposites. I love this series!

According to current theory, much of our civilized behavior was learned from dogs. Being pack animals, being territorial, competing for social position, etc.
