Hey all,

For anyone headed to Dragon-Con labor day weekend (as you know Joss and most of the cast of Firefly/Serenity will be attending as guests).

On behalf of the SEBC (SouthEastern Browncoats) I'll be spearheading the formation of a Firefly/Serenity group to march in the Dragon-Con parade Saturday morning. The parade is a blast, nothing like marching downtown in costume with streets lined with cheering crowds. I'd say hundreds if not close to a thousand people come out to watch the costumers/cosplayers parade by. Its definately well worth getting up early (or in some cases pulling an all night Friday Night).

Consider this an all-call for costumers/cosplayers to join me in the Sat am parade. Anyone interested email me: Subject: Dragon-Con Parade to TechieCL at gmail dot com

There's no requirement on quality of costume. Be as screen accurate as you'd like or simply have a costume inspired from our favorite series.

Look forward to meeting everyone who joins up.

ALSO

The SEBC, the night before (Friday) will be hosting a Firefly/Serenity costume competion at the SEBC sponsored Shindig. It will have an original (screen accurate) division and an "inspired by" division.

crap, crap, crap, crap....why oh why do my fandoms have to have competing activities......

I wanted to walk with you guys again, techiecl, BUT, I was recently contacted by the Trek Trak guys, and they want me riding the "Klingonmobile" in the parade as a former Miss Klingon....I really like that car, and am loving the whole kitchy thing they're doing with the pageant this year (we may be on TV), so I guess I'm gonna ride in ridge instead of Browncoat.

Although I AM going to have "Browncoat" buttons prominently attached to my costume, and if we are ahead of you guys in the line up, I plan on having my browncoat and hat with me and trying to rip off the ridge, throw on the hat and coat and run back and join up with ya all!

Hey SHK, I'm looking forward to seeing that transition from Klin to BC in 3.5 seconds. DO you need a phone booth for that or do you just spin around in place?

It's more the Wonder Woman change....bracelets of power, and a quick spin...possibly a fast duck behind a large Klingon and a bat'leth fan dance as distraction....

Techie,

My Jayne costume is coming along pretty nicely. Got an airsoft R36 to match Jayne' modified MP5 from the BDM to hang on the bandolier. Got a friend scratch building the BFG that he carried. Got some ammo & grenade pouches & am mocking up some grenades. Should be pretty shiny when I'm done.

Where does the count stand now for the parade?

With SHINYGODDESS's crew from Baton Rouge, we have 21 marchers.

+ Callmeserenity we will be 22. Callme, please email me at TechieCL at GMAIL dot com to confirm.

Browncoat 1, that's kick ass. Can't wait to see your modded gun and the jayne BFG. Add 1 to the count of Jayne's for yourself. Since at the time you said you might do Mal I didn't put you on the costume count.

More than a month left to Dragon-Con and Browncoats seem to be coming out of the wood work. We now have 26 confirmed marchers. Here's the latest count of confirmed costumes:

Blue Hand 2
Browncoat 2
Companion 1
Inara 2
Jayne 2
Kaylee 3
Mal 2
River 2
Simon 1
Wash 2
YoSafBridge 1
Zoe 1

Due to overwhelming response and the fact it won't clash with the SEBC Fan table's booth, Banner #2 is the one I will shop to various sign shops for printing.

As this is my first Con and first parade, I've got a question about the banners (which look great by the way). Will there also be a sign or signs which specifically say FIREFLY or SERENITY?

No.

We're hoping to get our hands on a Browncoat flag, but we have no signs that say Joss Whedon's Serenity or Firefly.

The parade banner is going to go to dual use for the SEBC's display booth as well. Any publicity for the group would drive traffic to the fan table which is a better vehicle to convert people.

Oh, got it, thanks. If we can get our hands on or create a cool Firefly/Serenity banner can we bring it also or would it be best to just use the one you've got set?

By the way, as long as it doesn't conflict with a panel or anything, my daughter and I plan on being in the parade. Kinda hard to know right now since there's no definite times for panels. Anyway, I'll be in a Zoe outfit and she'll be a cute Kaylee.

Boy, am I looking forward to this!

Last year their was no conflict with any of the Firefly panels. We had almost an hour between the end of the parade and the Saturday one.

If you are making your own banner, don't have it bigger than the SEBC one we will be sporting (3 feet tall x 8 or 9 feet long) and please don't use the SEBC logo. The SEBC banner will be leading the group.

Baybreeze, have you confirmed yourself and your daughter via email? If not please do so ASAP.

Okay, for those concerned that the parade may conflict w/ any Firefly/Serenity panels, here is the most recent trak schedule (I took the liberty of putting all Firefly related tracks in bold print to make them stand out):

http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Corridor/6825/itrack.html

Friday September 2, 2005

4:00 PM - Serenity: Into The Black.
Captain Mal Reynolds and his crew welcome you aboard the good ship Serenity, where there’s no cruise director and nobody sets on stun.
Guests: Morena Baccarin, Adam Baldwin, Nathan Fillion, Ron Glass, Jewel Staite.
Centennial 1-3.

5:30 PM - No More Do Overs!
After a shaky start Tru Calling promised much for its second season, only to be cut down by the most cynical programming decision in Fox network history. Join us as we mourn Tru’s passing.
Panelists: Patrick Cranford, Joe Crowe. (Seeking panelists)

7:00 PM – Mindwalkers
A discussion of the role of telepaths in B5.
Panelists: Rev. Sabrina Becker, Bill McIntyre, Stephanie Souders. (Seeking panelists)

8:30 PM – Stargate Atlantis: Dispatches from the Pegasus Galaxy.
A review of Atlantis’ sophomore season so far.
Panelists: Nicholas Anderson, Rev. Sabrina Becker, Patrick Cranford, Eric Idling. (Panel closed)

Guests: Carmen Argenziano, Alexis Cruiz, Gary Jones.

1:00 PM – Red or White?
No, it’s not a wine tasting, but we do have two of Australia’s finest vintages. Join us in welcoming Farscape’s Gigi Edgley and Raelee Hill.
Guests: Gigi Edgley, Raelee Hill.
Centennial 2-3.

2:30 PM – He Looks Like a Greek God.
An hour with Kevin Sorbo.

Panelists: Joe Crowe, Keith R. DeCandido, Eric Idling, SaVaGe. (Panel closed pending confirmation of Mr. DeCandido’s participation.)

7:00 PM – Stargate SG-1: The Saga Continues.
It’s all change at Stargate command with new team members and new enemies. New blood is good, but is the show in danger of losing its old magic?
Panelists: Rev. Sabrina Beckett, Patrick Cranford, Jennifer Neault

8:30 PM – Age Appropriate SF?
Disenchanted with genre TV? Do you yearn for the “real” SF of the good old days? Is it just part of growing older or are today’s shows aimed primarily at a 20-something audience?
Panelists: Nicholas Anderson, Patrick Cranford, Joe Crowe, Aaron Dunne (Mod), Tom Holste. (Panel Closed.)

10:00 PM – Princes, Prophets and Whores: The Mythology of Carnivale.
A discussion of the titanic struggle between light and darkness in the last age of magic, set against the backdrop of the Depression-era Dust Bowl.

A retrospective of the show.
(Seeking panelists.)

11:30 AM – Dark Knight in the Morning.
Eric Etebari discusses his time as Witchblade’s enigmatic warrior Ian Nottingham.
Guest: Eric Etebari.

1:00 PM – Farscape: All Quiet in the Uncharted Territories?
OK, so the Peacekeeper War is over, but do we really believe that peace has broken out in the Farscape universe? What new adventures lie ahead for the Crighton clan?

2:30 PM – An Hour with Paul McGillion
Another visit with the SG Atlantis star.
Guest: Paul McGillion

4:00 PM – TBA

5:30 PM – From Firefly to Serenity: Bridging the Gap.

Panelists: Keith R. DeCandido, Erik Hendrix, Jennifer Hendrix, Tom Holste (mod), Jackson Raster. (Panel closed pending confirmation of Mr. DeCandido’s participation.)

7:00 PM – Hi, Honey, I’m Home... The Return of The 4400.
One of last year’s gems, this saga of time travel with a twist offers fertile ground for discussion. Join us as we dig into the enigma that is The 4400.
Panelists: Aaron Dunne. (Seeking panelists.)

8:30 PM – SG-1 Live Role Playing.
A track tradition: this is your chance to pit your wits against the machinations of our resident GM, Bruce Sheffer. Could you be the next cadet Hailey?
GM: Bruce Sheffer.

10:00 PM - Not All Genocides are Created Equal.
The Dilgar. The Earth – Minbari war. The Centauri conquest of the Narn. The B5 universe is awash in blood.
Panelists: Bill McIntyre, Stephanie Souders. (Seeking panelists.)

Monday September 5, 2005

10:00 AM – SG-1: An Adversarial Position.
They say that you’re only as good as your opposition. Meet some of the rogue’s gallery that make SG-1 heroes.
Guests: Douglas Arthurs, Steve Bacic, Sam Jones.

11:30 AM – Charmed: The Seventh Year Witch.
Lady Godivia, undead pirates, time travel. Throw in guest appearances from the Angel of Death and Phoebe's favorite demon ex -- it's been a busy year even by the Hallowells' standards.
Panelists: Patrick Cranford, Jennifer Neault, James Palmer, SaVaGe.

1:00 PM - TBA

2:30 PM – The Deadlier of The Species.
Your final chance to meet the lovely, but lethal, ladies of Farscape. Guests: Gigi Edgley, Raelee Hill.
Centennial 1.

Looks like there is a 10am panel on Saturday for Firefly that our favorite author Keith R. DeCandido will be sitting in on, but nothing with any of the BDHs unless of course Nathan is doing something for Buffy or Adam is doing something for Angel.

[x-posted to various locations]

Well folks, we're less than a month to Dragon-Con. I hope every is working on their costume and/or has it done already. (I'm in the former category).

* There was a slight miscommunication with the parade staff due to a hard-drive crash on their end. That issue has been resolved, and the Browncoats are confirmed as registered.

* Due to overwhelming preference, we will be going with banner design #2. The banner will be 2 feet tall and 8 feet long in order to keep the ratio of that graphic.

* Times and palces. The group will gather between 8:45am and 8:55am by the HYATT Bar Saturday morning. We will travel as a group to the muster point: Woodruff Park (Peachtree and Auburn - about 4 blocks south of the Hyatt) between 9-9:30 AM
on Saturday morning, 9/2. If you can't make the intial meet-up point, be sure to hurry up to Woodruff park before the parade starts.

* The best news so far is we beat my original goal of 30 confirmed marchers. We are at 32 at the moment. The costume break down is as follows:

Blue Hand 2
Browncoat 2
Companion 1
Inara 2
Jayne 2
Kaylee 3
Mal 2
River 2
Simon 2
Wash 2
YoSafBridge 1
Zoe 3
10 unconfirmed costumes.

Let's shoot for 50 now. Let's show Dragon-Con that the Browncoats are out in force for the Big Damn Movie!
