`Firefly' wings its way to film

Three movie-related events hit Charlotte next week: a picture made from the cult TV favorite "Firefly," some flying feet and six shorts to light a fire under you.

`Firefly' reaches big screen

The new film "Serenity" uses nine characters from the science-fiction series that lasted 13 episodes in 2002. Creator Joss Whedon promised devoted fans a film version by spring of this year, but he and Universal Pictures moved the release date to Sept. 30. So Universal is sponsoring a few secret sneak previews of the unfinished feature around the country this month.How popular are they? One scheduled for Regal Stonecrest June 23 sold out almost immediately after fans were informed. That's been true of screenings everywhere, including three in Atlanta. You may be able to luck into a ticket through a scalper or on eBay; when I checked that site Monday, bidders had pushed tickets in other cities above $60. None were listed in Charlotte at the time, but who knows?"
