WHEDONESQUE

I got a bonus recently and have decided to blow it on some great fan-made FF merchandise. I have found a lot of really great items for sale on Zazzle and Cafepress.

My problem is this: I often want the pretty graphic on another item (ie, magnet or poster instead of tshirt, or babydoll tshirt instead of men's shirt) I would like to contact the seller (I assume that's not too hard via the shop site) and ask them to add the item I want to their shop.

My concern is this: Is that rude or unreasonable? Does it cost them money (or a lot of time) to add more items?

For example, can I ask a Zazzle seller to make a particular tshirt graphic available as a poster without too much trouble? I looked into the 'customize' feature, but I was only able to customize that particular piece of clothing - not change it to a poster.

Also, can I ask a Cafepress seller to add a christmas ornament or a magnet to their shop?
I collect magnets and ornaments (which is probably pretty weird, I know ) and would like to purchase a lot of the designs I see to add to my collections. Also, does Cafepress have a 'customize' feature? I would like to add something to the other side of the one-sided tshirts, like 'Joss is Boss' or 'Firefly Fan' or something.

Can any of you who have become Cafepress or Zazzle pros give me some advice on getting exactly what I want without pissing off the creative, talented, fellow-browncoat sellers? Thanks

OK, first of all I'm not a CafePress pro - have only just opened my stores - but for what it's worth will give you my point of view/advice!

CafePress only offer certain goods (no Christmas Ornaments I'm afraid) and some of them seem a little strange (how many people want those green t-shirts?). It doesn't cost any money to add products to a shop, but if you have the basic (ie pay nothing!) type store, you can only offer one design per item.

Personally I'd be happy to add "new" items and wouldn't be at all offended - heck, I'd be flattered by the interest. If you look at the threads about merchandise you'll see that people with stores seem only too happy to try and accomodate the wishes of their fellow Browncoats!

Hope this helped for starters - am sure more experienced sellers will have more advice!

It depends on the store owner and the items offered by CP/Zazzle at the time.

and yes, CP DOES have an ornament available year round now....

I personally don't have a problem with putting a new item up with an existing design, as long as it is something that is currently available. CP has a FAR greater selection of items than Zazzle. Some items, however, do cycle depending on demand/season, and some just get discontinued due to tech issues or poor sales. For instance, CP recently discontinued the microfiber ball cap (which I loved) because people weren't happy with the printing on it. Personally, I thought it looked fine, but I guess I was in the minority. They also discontinued visors, in favor of those butt-ugly trucker caps and black caps with a white patch for printing on the front...the microfiber caps were SO much better looking....

If there's something special you're looking for, just ask -- if I can get it, I'll put it up for you.

As far as customization, that's a bit harder for individual store owners to offer, but CP does provide that option for individuals using your OWN design/photo and on limited items, without requiring you to open a store of your own (although that's really, really easy to do). There's a link somewhere at the top of the site for "Make my own" or something like that. Usually has a small photo showing someone's picture of their kid on a shirt or something like that.

Oh yes, the keepsake thingy - my bad for forgetting that!

Available in not one, but two shapes!

Not a problem at all, it's happened before. I've even made new designs because I didn't have exactly what someone was looking for. As mentioned, it's flattering.

There may be instances where the graphics from one item might not fit on another product, and if converting it was too much trouble I'd thank you sincerely but decline. Hasn't happened yet.
