Well just to remind you all to support our good friends Minear, Jane Espenson, and Adam Baldwin...

Also, i want to say that my SBC yahoo homepage thing came up with a "The Next X-Files" thing 1 of the 4 'news' slots. This should be good publicity for the show.

P.S. (anyone considered that, if the show, on fox, by minear, DOESNT get canceled... Adam Baldwin is tied up for the next few years? :-\)

Excuse my ignorance. I'm not a big TV watcher. So can you tell me what the Inside is and when it's going to be on. All I understand from what you wrote is that Adam Baldwin's in it and it's on FOX?

Shouldn't be an issue. There are a lot of people who pull off a TV series in addition to a movie career. Jennifer Garner ( http://imdb.com/name/nm0004950) has been doing a bunch of movies even while she's lead on Alias ( http://imdb.com/title/tt0285333), for example. There is enough time between shoots for a series to do a movie, assuming that scheduling issues can be ironed out.

Important note about the show:

The Baltimore Sun reviewed it this morning and said it was *extremely* gory and not for the weak of stomach. And personally I've about had it with the 'how gross can we be on network?' stunts, so I may not watch the show after all

Rabit-thanks for the links. I may check it out, just because one of our BDHs in on it, but it doesn't seem like it's quite my cup o' tea. I can't handle CIS, and if this is gory...*shudder* Still, I hope it does well and gives Adam some well deserved recognition.

Been waiting to see this show for a while, great cast, great writers and the great Minear, it should be....uh....great!

Plus the TVGal over on zap2it was not too big a fan so that is a good sign for the show.

Also Minear was recently quoted as saying that "since fox did not put us on friday nights, we may be able to get more than a 13 episode dvd set out of this one." Wonder what he was referring to, hmm?

I'm already onboard for The Inside. I do encourage everyone to give it try tonight. 9:00 EST. Yes it's FOX, but they appear to be behind this more so than other shows we miss. It's on Wednesday now and not Friday, that's already good. Yes, it's supposed to be dark(probably gory), please don't let one reviewer discourage you from giving it a try. I dislike the gory for shock value also, but I think this might be different.

Creative team includes: Tim Minear, Jane Espenson, Ben Edlund, David Fury and probably a few other Mutant Enemy alumni that are slipping my mind.
Cast: Adam Baldwin (The man they call "Jayne")
and Katie Finneran (Wonderfalls), etc.

I posted a thread about this, but thought I'd add it here, too.

http://tv.zap2it.com/tveditorial/tve_main/1,1002,271|95686|1|,00.html

I'm taking this as a sign that zap2it.com expects The Inside to be canceled after two episodes. Which isn't too unlikely, seeing as how we're dealing with Focks again.

I'll watch it as long as it's on. Hell, I watched all but one episode of Point Pleasant - I still feel like one of the only people that had good things to say about that show. Hope the same doesn't happen with The Inside.

I know fox bashing is the most popular sport here but please remember that they were the only one to give these shows a shot in the first place. Would anyone honestly be happier if Firefly had never aired instead of being cancelled after one season? I will watch Inside tonight and probably until it is cancelled.

Fox approached Joss about making a show, and he gave them Firefly. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but Firefly wasn't shopped to any other networks until after it was canceled by Fox - and most networks don't make a habit out of picking up canceled shows. It happens, but not often.

I feel like most of us do a good job of watching Fox's few good shows while hating the network at the same time. I know I do.

My point still stands. Fox is giving these shows a shot. Would "The Simpsons" "Futurama" "Wonderfalls" etc. have been on ANY other network? I don't think so. ABC, NBC, CBS have all been more concerned about being safe. Fox has always given the orphan shows more freedom than others would dream of. Tim has a shot but they expect him to perform. I will give it my support and hope others do as well.

Even if it's gory, it'll still be the tv version of gory, which isn't as bad as most movies.

Also, Tim may have had to make it gory to live down to F*X's normal broadcast standards. That doesn't mean that the show won't also have his usual assortment of interesting, complex, conflicted characters and intricate, involving storylines. If you don't watch it just because of a little tv style gore, you'll only be cheating yourself out of seeing an otherwise potentially great show.

If there's a little gore on the screen for a few seconds, just close your eyes. It probably won't be there long. That's certainly better than missing the whole show, isn't it?

Sorry if that came off preachy. Just reminded me of my mother who goes "Eeeew!" every time there's even the tiniest bit of the most obviously fake looking blood in a scene. It's not REAL, Mom!

So, let me get this straight...you don't watch CSI (the Vegas version)?
And one person's "extremely gory" is another person's "oooh...wow...yikes...cool".
Me? I'd rather watch extremely gory than fluffy dumbed down sitcom nonsense.
If gory and bloody isn't your thing, maybe you'll want to stay home on September 30th.

Interesting. I didn't expect people, certainly not Browncoats, to be borderline nasty to me because I'm not thrilled about seeing a skinned corpse. Apparently I was holding Browncoats in too high a regard.

And I will be there Sept. 30, whether you like it or not. I already saw Serenity, and I will watch it many more times.

So anyway just saw it. Not my normal fare, not a fan of "Cop" aka CSI dramas but I really love the writing of Tim & Jane. And I like the characters so far. A little gore I can stomach, though I do steer clear of an "Special Victims Unit" subject matter. Adam was great. Though the name Danny Love makes me thing of the original Oceans 11 or one of the Rat Pack flicks, or a basic lounge singer.I still think I will give it a shot.

So who noticed the nod to Worlfram & Hart? It was subtle but beautiful.

I've never been a big fan of "cop dramas" but I gave it a try. I actually enjoyed it. Adam was great:).

The interactions between the boss and the agents is reminiscent of "House" and I can't tell if the blonde chick is supposed to be some kind of psychic or not.

I didn't think it was any gorier than any of the other cop shows on tv, and much LESS gory than fear factor ;).

I enjoyed it and look forward to the next one.

Oh, and I watched my tape this morning and saw the W&H reference. Very clever.

Also, did anyone think that when Web tells Rebecca at the end, "That's my good girl.", that it was a reference back to the "Serenity" pilot when Kaylee said those exact words to Serenity? Or was it just a coincidence?

This show is *extremely* promising based on last night's airing.

All I needed was a lanky, awkwardly handsome FBI agent who works on The X-Files and his scrappy red-headed partner to come strolling in to make the show even better. Some of the sets actually look a lot like The X-Files FBI sets, too. Props to the other exec producer, Howard Gordon, who worked on The X-Files for that I hope. It should be interesting to see how they handle FBI procedures for profiling.

Y'know what I was most grateful for? The fact that they didn't dumb down the script for us. Using the term "UnSub" to describe the Unknown Subject and Web shooting the suspect...the law allows it (even though, like in this case, it might be considered murder) if a federal agent's life is in jeopardy.

I'll also be with the show until the DVDs come out.

I thought it was pretty good.

I like the interaction of the boss and his team. Should be interesting to see how he uses them through the series.

Adam seemed like he was in a very Jayne like role. He didn't seem as um....intelligence challenged as Jayne though. Which would have been bad for an FBI agent.

Rachel Nichols is so smoking hot. When I saw her in dumb and dumberer I was an instant fan. Little did I know she can act too. I thought she did a really good job of acting.

I'll be sticking around to see where this one goes.

I thought the show was very well done. Cast and script were both good. I think the show has a lot of potential. Hope it stays around for a while. But the fact that it finished fourth in it's time slot last night does not bode well. If you like the show you better spread the word. We all know fox does not have a good track record with keeping quality shows around when the ratings are not immediately there (Arrested Development notwithstanding). I'll keep watching with my fingers crossed.

And Tim was a story editor for The X-Filesas well, working on some of the better Season 5 episodes. I did know that, but Mr. Minear is much more well-known for his contributions for Angel and Firefly. In any case, at least we'll have an interesting, dark show for as long as it lasts.

I'm not that familiar with Camden Toy. I tried to look him up in relation to The Inside and I'm getting nada. I see he was UberVamp and one of the "Gentlemen" or so it seems. If he was in last nights ep, then I'm thinking he'd have to have been "Ice Cream Genius"(sorry, that's only funny to me) in the mirror, you know creapy clown guy we got to see for about .025 seconds, but we'll likely see more of that guy in later eps. *shrugs*

It was great stuff! To be honest, I never liked Wonderfalls (*ducks*), but this time, Tim Minear seems to have something I'll really enjoy!

Yes, gory - but WOW - Reavers! Sorta...I mean, we could handle Reavers in Bushwacked - we Browncoats can handle what was on THIS show :)

So let's see - Reavers, Hands of Blue, Jayne of course, Wolfram and Hart, psychic girl.

How can you go wrong?

Also, quite an ensemble cast - they all seem to have a part to play, and that feels like a Minear/Whedon production, too.

Okay, so who's watching? What do people think? I sure liked the second episode - quite a bit less gory than the first - and while I like Reavers once in a while, I was worried the show would always have them :)

Noticed Jane Espenson on the credits for the first time (I know, you said she was part of it in the top of the thread, but I didn't notice). Since Shindig is my favorite Firefly ep, I'm quite hopeful about the writing in The Inside.

And yes, I'm replying to myself, but come on folks, Minear, Adam Baldwin, Espenson - does it get better than this?

I really liked the second episode as well.

Adam had that great exchange w/ Webster:

Danny: "Hell's Angels. Deep cover mission."

Webster: "You're not growing a mustache."

Danny: "Goatee?"

I busted out laughing at Adam at that last part. He had that patented wounded Jayne look on his face. I wonder if the goatee reference was a reference to Jayne wearing one in Firefly. Could just be grasping at straws on my part.

As far as the show itself, I love how they keep referring to the secrets and "pasts" of the team. Paul again asks Webster what his past is, and again Webster turns and leaves. Delving into these characters is going to be the best part for me. What makes them tick? Why are they on the team? What is it that Webster feels each brings to the team? What is it in their pasts that drives them to work on the VCU?

Can't wait for the next episode.

I think that when Tim (sp?) Minear started writing The Inside he just couldn't let go of Jayne, so he wrote him in as slightly less crass and showed a bit more of his intelligence. It does make me think of Firefly every time Adam Baldwin speaks though.

I dig the show because it focuses more on the serial murders as opposed to the single murder/accident that CSI does. I hope it continues to get better.

I busted out laughing at Adam at that last part. He had that patented wounded Jayne look on his face. I wonder if the goatee reference was a reference to Jayne wearing one in Firefly. Could just be grasping at straws on my part.

If so, you weren't the only one, that's what I was thinking too.

And Locke is starting to creep me out. As is Web.

I really like the second episode better than the first. We have a lot to learn about these people. I hope they start giving us more about their past. That's what's interesting.

CAPTAINCDC

I've enjoyed both eps so far. I'm really excited about the show. It has a lot of potential.

I'm glad to hear that Amber Benson is going to be in ep11, I just hope fox keeps the show around long enough to see her. I'm also looking forward to episodes penned by Jane Espenson and David Fury.
