I know this is a little off track of the topic, but I'm planning to buy a pleasure boat within the next few months, and I already know for certain her name is going to be Serenity.

Heh. Along those lines, I have a boat named Daisy, so I rather liked that suggestion by someone earlier in the thread.

I haven't thought of a name for a Firefly yet, though. I'll get back to y'all when I do...

ZOID

If I had a Firefly, I'd name her, "Star Wars VII: The Return of the Sequels."

That way, if a major motion picture studio ever decided to make a movie about my ship and her crew of seriocomic misfits, everyone on the freakin' planet would blindly rush to see it.

I'm surprised no one has thought of this before...

Promotionally,

zoid

P.S.
Maybe I'll get a clause put in my contract that the movie must premiere in a theatre situated on a clifftop, overlooking the sea.

Mine would be the good ship antidisestablishmentarinism.

In the Take Turns Writing thingy the ship is names Sidere which means (literaly) 'run away' in latin. I think.

TENTHCREWMEMBER

Could you please just make it stranger? Stranger. Odder. Could be weirder. More bizarre. How about uncanny?

How about the Rumrunner as an homage to pirates of old on Earth-that-was.

of course, I'd probably really name it Geese Juggler but in mandarin.

INNOCENCEMAINTAINED

Well... I can't name it Conor, I already named my laptop that.

Perhaps Tundra, since that's my favorite word in the english language. Or Ishmael, as a Moby Dick reference, although I still want to name a cat Ishmael someday...

Temporary Insanity always had a nice ring to it, though. Or Loquacious Freedom, although I do think both would make better band names.

Pondersome....

You know this obsession of yours is obsessive.

Neat how that works out really.

Obsessions are what I do best, love.

Trust me, my Conor obsession is a casual interest compared to the deepest fathoms of all my previous obsessions.

Speaking of obsessions, isn't Firefly a rocking show?

Aren't you happy I got you hooked?

Anyway, my names for ships
Dreamer of Dreams – It’s a great name.
Teller of Tales – Dreamer’s sister ship
Lost Cause – What was once a ship but is now a stationary home.
Caelum – still sounds cool

Actually, this is the last of the series!

The Quandary Phase & Quintessential Phase cover So Long, and Thanks For All The Fish & Mostly Harmless.

Last year, the Tertiary Phase covered Life, The Universe, and Everything. Sorry I wasn't here to tell you about that one!

Of course, you can always listen to the Original here!

I have the original on cassette.

Looking it (the website) over I very much wish they had continued where they left off, not followed the books by saying that only Zaphod remembered it and it was passed off as a drunken psychotic episode by the one he told.

I first thought the Freedom, but that was a little sticky in my mind, though it does have a nice ring.

Then I thought the Indefatigable, named after Horatio Hornblowers ship of the line.

But noone would have known where it came from, and it is hard to say.

So Finally I decided on the Icarus.

So that I may remember to be be humble and thoughtful, and to always cling to what little common sense God has given me.

Or just make sure your ship has aquatic capabilities.

I second this, i would defently name it Bob, if that names good enough for New Earth it is good enough for a Firefly.

Well you have to name a planet Bob, there is no other name for one.

The only reason the planets in Firefly are not named bob is that there are so many, that was the real cause for the war you know. The central planets had agreed that no planet would be named bob because if one was the inhabitants of the others would feel jealous.

When colonization started in the border moons one named itself Bob. It was decided then and there, well actually then and on a central planet, that such things should not be allowed and the only way to prevent them was to rule everything.

I'd name a Firefly - "Lily Sloane". Or just "Lily".
Lily Sloane was the brilliant engineer who, with Zephraim Cochran, discovered Warp Drive.
