I posted this on the subject at the UB:

I think the problem with the new trilogy when compared to the old (and Firefly/Serenity, for that matter) is that you went from a relatively small group of characters with interesting and somewhat unexplained backgrounds to a much larger cast, all of whom seem one-dimensional and uninspired.

Where are the Han's and Lando's in Ep's I-III? Was the budget for their characters lost when Lucas created Jar-Jar?

Where are the plot twists and turns? We went from 'I am your father!' to 'I am Queen Amidala...this is my decoy...'

Where is the nifty dialogue? I mean, if you were about to be frozen in carbonite and the woman you are hot for rushes in at the last second and tells you that she loves you, would you be all cool and smooth by responding with an 'I know'? I submit that you would not!

The new trilogy is lacking in all the areas that the original movies excelled in...and Serenity trumps even them.

When people finally do get to see the BDM, they won't be comparing it to Ep's I-III...well, not successfully, at least. Doing so would be like comparing the The Star Wars Holiday Special to the original movie...it just wouldn't be fair.
