Yeah, I can kinda see the Linda Blair resemblance there. Also seems like the chest is enhanced a bit, too. But that's comicbook life, innit?

Whoa! Nice comic.

Great artwork. I will definitely be getting the comics when they come out. At least one of each cover.

Wonder what Book's doing? At first I assumed this was a flashback of Book's past (a thrilling prospect I don't need to tell you) but it seems he's providing a distraction of some sort what with Baldy Man's statements.

Can we PLEASE call them Graphic Novels...? Makes us grown ups feel a little less guilty when we buy them...

(Ok, I'm sure there's a technical difference between a cartoon and a graphic novel, but the latter just sounds so much more impressive).

To me you can call it graphic novels once it's a complete story in one package at least the length of 3 regular sized comics. Individual issues are still comics. I don't know if that's the official definition, but to me calling a single issue of a comic a graphic novel is a bit pretentious for my tastes. ;)

They do look rather impressive! Erm, you're gonna have to forgive my ignorance here but having never bought a comic before, I don't actually know where I can get these. There are no science-fiction specialist shops near-by so I'm assuming that my only real option is the Internet - so does anyone know of a place where these comics are available (or will be available)? I live in the UK and have no idea as to who stocks comics on the internet, etc. If someone can recommend a UK site that'll have the comics I would greatly appreciate it.
Cheers all!

Forbidden Planet in the UK should have them. If not they usually order them in. Not sure where you live but there is a large Forbidden Planet in London and I suspect they do web orders too... if not, I recommend Amazon.. that's where I found 'Fray' (after looking in Forbidden Planet for 6 months)

There's a double-edged sword involved with four-page previews of a comic, much like a trailer coming out months before a movie. It's great, and I love it, but they make me wait for the rest.

At least the wait for the comics is significantly shorter.

It's been too long since I've collected, and since I had a local shop, I never had to use it. But, there used to be a webpage for finding your local shop. I think it covered everywhere (non US shops). Don't remember the URL, but a search should turn it up. Yeah Forbidden Planet should stock it if there's one near you.

You should be able to find it on Amazon or Forbidden Planets website. I get the Forbidden Planet catalogue so will probably buy it from them. Alternatively Borders Bookstores sell a large range of comics and graphic novels, so they will probably stock Serenity as well.

Hope this helps.

Hooray! Thanks for your help! I looked 'Forbidden Planet' up on google and found the website and, hooray, they have the first issue up for pre-order. Presumably they'll add the others as their release dates loom.

I also read somewhere that the comics will probably be bundled together in an 'omnibus' which will then be made available? Does anyone know if that's confirmed or is it standard practice? I really have no idea about comics

It's not uncommon - not every comic series or mini gets it, but ones they expect to be able to sell in bookstores or have longer lasting appeal get collected in a TPB (trade paperback). I'd think that Serenity would have at least a decent shot of having a TPB out in time for the movie - whether they print any more printings after that would depend on sales.

does anyone know of a site (US like Amazon.com) that has the comic books up for sale? I've tried looking on Amazon but all I get is the novelization of Serenity and other things by Joss Whedon.

I don't usually buy comics. Do you think Borders or Barnes & Noble would carry them?

Most bookstores don't carry individual issues of comics in the US, or if they do, they only do it for the really big ones like X-Men, Spider-Man, and the like - more will get the collected versions when they come out.

I've never used them (since I have a local comic shop that's quite good), but http://www.milehighcomics.com does deal in single issues, as do many other online comic stores. Keep in mind the issues aren't actually out yet. :)

The only comics I ever collected were the three issues of Dave Stevens' "The Rocketeer".
Put 'em in the nice plastic covers & everything!
The third issue is even autographed in silver & numbered!

Then, the movie tanked, and now the going price for the books is barely more than the cover price.

Call me paranoid, but I'm kinda scared of jinxing Serenity by buying the comics on the first day of issue!
Of course, if I wait until after the BDM's successful, the issue I buy won't have quite the same worth, will it?

Quite the conundrum.

I wouldn't wait around...there's enough Browncoat interest that the books may still be worth something if Serenity tanks...which I doubt, sincerely. That's not just the huge fan in me talking either...

You think Inara's chest has been enhanced?

Look at the Kaylee cover for Serenity #2:
Holy Extreme Makeover Firefly Edition, Batman!

Someone should commission a study of whether premature weaning of breastfed male infants is
strongly correlated with boys who grow up to be
comic book artists.

As someone who used to be REALLY buxom, I want
to testify that -- in real life -- big boobs
are not an asset during hand-to-hand combat.
Hell, they get in the way in many physical
activites, from martial arts to golfing.

But you'd never know that from studying comic books.

Sigh.

Although in this case, the Kaylee cover would not provide any relevant data, as the artist, Jo Chen, is in fact female.

LOL. Ah, yes. Of course, whatever the artist's gender, that artist adheres to the standards of the genre/industry. So...weaning study should look at readers and publishers of comic books. And collectors of sci-fi artwork. And character designers for video games....

Yes, Inara looks staked...all the girls will end up looking staked most likely. Nothing new to me seeing as how I think a good sum or all of my comics are filled with big boobed woman.
