Hi everyone! New (French) Browncoat

I've just finished watching the last episode of my very recently acquired Firefly dvd set, and I'm definitely in love with this show! The worst part, besides not being able to watch a second season, is not being able to share the experience with my friends, none of which speak English! I've tried to explain to them why I spend all my free time watching a show about space renegates who swear in Chinese, but they all just think I'm crazy...I can't wait to see Serenity; a friend of mine went to a trip in Australia and he promised he would bring me back the DVD!
By the way, English not being my mother tongue, I apologize in advance for all the mistakes I'm very probably going to make...

Welcome to the verse, Dollwen!!! Sit down and stay for a spell. Should enjoy this here spot, have a bunch of shiny folks from all diff walks of life. Not to mention a bunch of little goodies such as the Dark Horse comic series for verse, the River Tam session, extened blooper clip etc etc. Yeah same prob w/ me, no showings or versions in Japanese so can't share this yet w/ my Japanese friends zannen ne. Well enjoy and have fun.

It's odd, I would think more French people would like Firefly; I thought getting completely stomped in a noble fight would be something you would understand completely.

Welcome here. And, I know that the Region 1 DVDs have French dubbing, at least (though, admittedly, it's a compromise). Maybe you can find a way to share...

Well, I'm sure French people would love this show if they had a proper chance to watch it. It was aired just once on the French cable (at about 2:00 AM)with an awful dubbing which made it sound like a stupid show with stupid characters in it (the translators didn't even keep the Chinese words!!!)
As for the DVDs, the lack of French subtitles on both R1 and R2 sets makes it really difficult for me to introduce my family and friends to the show...

And I hope you can get the comics (now also out in graphic novel form) which bridge that gap between Firefly & Serenity.

I'm sorry about the lack of French translation, that has got to be remedied! Who do we petition?

I know of one other French browncoat, named petitrhino, but I haven't seen much of her around here lately. Last I heard, she was in Scotland, the Orkneys I believe.

There are French subtitles on the R1 Serenity DVD, so maybe your family will enjoy that once you have it.

However, I warn you, I didn't think much of the translation. It totally misses the Western jargon -- though I don't know how that could be suggested in French. Worse, it omits a good deal of the dialog in some scenes. I'm afraid the subtitles won't really capture the spirit of the movie.

Welcome, Dollwen. I think your english is better than most of the people in the U.S. for whom it is their primary language. Hope you enjoy your visits here and come back often. It's nice to see someone from France here for a change. Glad to see there are Browncoats over there to spread the word about Firefly. While some in this country have resorted to bashing France over the last few years since a particular moron got into the White House I don't hold to the propaganda crap and I remember history like when French soldiers and French naval forces helped our forefathers fight the British at Yorktown and win our freedom from a repressive monarchy. I also remember fondly a particularly beautiful gift of a remarkable lady that now stands in New York harbor welcoming people to America, her torch shining brightly. I'm not telling anyone I got my coat on sale! No, I'll tell 'em I paid full price (swore my allegiance to Mal and crew, bought the DVDs, etc.) and it is worth every penny.

I think you're doing a great job handing out the browncoats when there are so many new people every day. If only the Fox people would open their eyes and see how many of us there really are.

Eh, Bonjour. J'ai le film, "Astrix et Oblix (Cesar) mais ma famille ne comprend pas francais. Il y a des subtitres, mais ils sont en francais. J'aime meiux "Astrix et Oblix (Cleopatre)" parce que le ligne de Cyrano, "C'est un roc, un pic, un penninsule!" et tres drole.
