The Fifth Estate: The Unauthorized Biography of Dick Cheney
Broadcast on the fifth estate Wednesday, October 6 2004 on CBC-TV at 9PM

American Vice-President Dick Cheney has walked the corridors of world power for three decades.

Cheney's remarkable life story involves the relentless accumulation of power in every form
and regardless of the outcome of this fall's election, he will continue to be one of the
most powerful and well-connected men in the world.
The fifth estate will show how he accomplished this, what it involved in terms of costs for others and what history's judgement could be.

Oh man. Hulk Hogan. He-Man. Mr T. R2-D2. Howard Stern. Michael Moore. That's as far as I got. Kind of fun, but really cheesy, game. That damn Dick Cheney morphing monster killed me with his heat ray eyes.

On a side note... I have more respect for Dick Cheney after watching the VP debate. He clearly belonged there. I mean, he was lying through his teeth on a number of statements, but he knows foreign policy and knows politics. Three out of the four people involved in the first two debates looked like they belonged there: Kerry, Edwards, and Cheney. Unfortunately, the one person who clearly didn't belong there is our President.

There are three kinds of people: fighters, lovers, and screamers.

*heh*... well, the facts from Micheal Moores movie were reported on W5 almost a year BEFORE Fahrenheit 9/11 came out.

It's old news to the rest of the world. It's just NOT on American TV. Funny that eh?

Just the facts from Moore's movie? must have been a short report.

... yea, all confirmed facts. Confirmed twice as the facts your disputing were not only Micheal Moores but the W5 journalists.

So if you want to dispute W5, be my guest.

Oh, and since you didn't see this report I'd ask you didn't blow off something you didn't see.

Question Geezer - did you see the CANNE Film Festival winning picture Fahrenheit 9/11?

No. All I can see is the site you posted above, full of one-sided information taken out of context. Was the report anything like that?

Just parts. I have seen Moore's previous two films, and browsed his website quite a bit. I'm impressed. Goebbels could have learned a lot from Mr. Moore.

But rather than get into another Michael Moore debate, I'll retract my comparison, and instead posit that 5th Estate is the polar opposite of Fox News. At least as lacking in "Fair and Balanced" reportage, but way in the anti-Bush/Cheney direction.

^^^ the Fifth Estate, in case you're curious about a program you know nothing about, is Canada's premier news doc show and has been for over a quarter of a century.
http://www.cbc.ca/fifth/history/index.html

Tell me something, about Fahrenheit 9/11, how do you explain two seperate reports a year apart, W5 and Fahrenheit 9/11, coming to the very same conclusion about GWB and the illegal invasion of Iraq?

Hmm?

Well, you seem to think it's a conspiracy.

You have no idea how right you are. The Fifth Estate is one the CBC's (Canada's very own gov't funded network) flagship shows. And the CBC is pretty much the opposite of Fox News (from what I've seen of it anyway, which isn't very much). It leans so far to the left I'm surprised it hasn't fallen over yet .

Did you see the editorial cartoon in the Ottawa Citizen yesterday (It was also syndicated to a number of other papers)?

The cartoon is what I thought this thread would be about since the subject heading of this thread could be the subject heading of the cartoon!!

I'd link to it but it's behind a subscriber wall and I've yet to see it anywhere else.

Nope, I don't read Canadian papers as they are owned by either this company or that family. Wow, I've a choice of two! Fuggin' Nazis... and don't get me started on the Toronto Globe and Zionist Mail... Jebus save me!

Let's get one thing clear... if a news program, paper, journalist or reporter is NOT a lefty... something is wrong.

Of course all good news sources are left leaning, their job is to report what's happening to the people by asking the people, NOT just the elite but ALL THE PEOPLE. People have it hard, things are rough. But the Government and Corporate Axis of Greed will sell you the sweet smell of a lie everytime.

If a news outlet isn't left wing then it's just propoganda - parroting whatever crap press release or quote the Gov/Corp spits out to fool the people.

Of course, the Corporation has control of the Media ... and the Corporation will kill for Bush.
Who owns CNN? or MSNBC? ABC?

Came to the board to see if anyone else caught Cheney's latest volley of Fear Tactics.

Telling folks that our cities might be bombed with nuclear weapons (because, after all, we live in a SAFER world thanks to the Bush Administration) and, boy, if that happens, you wouldn't want Kerry as President, because Kerry wouldn't be able to handle it.

(So Be Afraid and Vote for Bush! Because if some terrorist bombed one of our cities, you can rely on Bush to sit on his butt for awhile, try to make what political advantage he could make of it, and then ask his advisors to cook up some excuse to invade a completely uninvolved country for purposes of enriching Blue Sun and the other profiteers.)

They have to be owned by somebody...

Is that assuming that all the people are left leaning as well? Who is speaking up for the right leaning? We are people too. In Canada the elite tend to be left-leaning (the political elite anyway) so is it ok for the media to parrot the government as long as its the bias that you want?

Quote:

If a news outlet isn't left wing then it's just propoganda - parroting whatever crap press release or quote the Gov/Corp spits out to fool the people.

Again, I'm not really following you here. Taking the example of the Canadian government which is left leaning (albeit moving towards the centre) doesn't that mean that the left wing news outlets are parroting the gov't? Isn't that what the CBC does?

Why is a left-wing bias ok, but a right-wing bias wrong?

Quote:

None of this is really a secret. It just reminds me of a paper I wrote on CanWest Global for a news media class a couple of years ago. A lot of the articles I found during my research were about how the Asper's buying the National Post would result in a paper that was essentially a mouthpiece for the Liberal party. I think its safe to say that hasn't happened.

Any media outlet should be regarded as having some bias one way or another, its all run by people and people aren't perfect.

I'd go into this some more but I'm tired and I really should be writing a paper right now .

If nothing we do matters, then all that matters is what we do. -"Angel"
