Cool Article. Not just somebody preaching at you, but someone who grew up with a smartphone in her hand and decided at 24 years old she was finished with it.

I'm considering getting a dumb phone of my own. They have really cheap plans out there now and it would be nice to have an alternative phone that I can have on me when I'm out. I've heard nothing but complaints about all of the flip phones "for seniors" they have out there. I wonder if her Nokia is any good.

In the rare event I splurge on myself, I'd really like to get a phone from Sunbeam. Their Orchid is discontinued and that was supposed to be awesome. Their new F1 Horizon line has a ton of different options, and the lowest tier is just a little more than 1/3rd of what the Orchid was going for new years back when I'd first heard about it.

Still though... $250 is quite a bit more than what I payed for my LG flip phone ages ago.

Wonder if the quality is still as good as when they were selling the Orchid for over $600.

Not a fan of the way that this F1 looks though. Honestly, it looks exactly the same as all the Senior Phones they sell with Consumer Cellular and similar companies. The Orchid was doing its own thing.

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

Yeah. I should limit my online time.

Altho I have a hard time drawing the line between legitimate use and not. Like, researching medical conditions. Finding a bunch of very helpful how-to videos. (If I had known then what I know now I wouldn't have struggled so much with landscaping.)

Catching up on news?

Listening to podcasts? Isn't that the equivalent of listening to a radio?

I guess opening up a website to take a break, or kill time, or because bored ... verged on problem use.

What say you, SIX?

It depends on when you're asking me that question.

A year ago today I was working on the basement and other projects. Right now I practically live online while doing my current project. It's not social media and there's not a lot of human interaction outside of mainly my posting here. But I'm spending more than my fair share of time staring at a screen these days.

I like not having it when I go out though. Forces me out of my comfort zone. I have an easy enough time retreating into myself when I'm at home. I can't even imagine doing that to myself 24/7/365 with that thing in my pocket.

I'm sure at this point somebody might even view me as a curiosity when sitting at in places like the waiting room at the doctor or before getting a haircut. Pretty much anybody under 100 years old is sitting there with their phone pulled out except for me.

People forget that GPS units without a cell phone are still a thing too. I have 3 of them and they're all hand me downs. The batteries on them don't work anymore, but as long as they're plugged into the cigarette lighter they still link up to the satellite just fine and get you where you need to go.

Most things people use their phones for they'd live just fine without. The did up until 10 or 12 years ago since the beginning of time.

Ain't nothing so important that I can't wait until I get home to look it up. And if I forgot about it by then it probably wasn't that important anyway.

Yeah...

I try not thinking about it too much because it starts feeling like Invasion of the Body Snatchers. The scary one from the 70's with Donald Southerland.
