In my conversations with Republicans, I heard repeatedly that the least disruptive path to getting rid of Trump, grim as it sounds, might be to wait for his expiration.

Ha! Good luck with that. Consider this:

• Donald Trump has a Filet-O-Fish–centered diet, exercises only by playing golf, and employs some of the least trustworthy-seeming doctors to have ever been associated with the medical profession.

• He did not take the threat of COVID seriously at all and actually got COVID himself just before the last election.

• He’s 76 years old.

• He nonetheless recovered fully from COVID and has had no known health problems since. He looks fine. (He looks less frail than the Democrats’ likely 2024 nominee, for one.)

Have you ever seen Velveeta go bad? No, because it’s not real food. The same is true of Donald Trump and being a human.

I know you think that's witty, but it isn't.

When Trump dies the atoms that made him up will make something else. Just like yours will. Just like all of ours will.

Also, so will Velveeta when it goes bad...

Donald Trump threatens to use his core skills against the GOP.

It’s begun to dawn on Republicans that they face a potentially catastrophic political problem: Donald Trump may lose the GOP presidential primary and, out of spite, wreck Republican prospects in 2024. That unsettling realization broke through with the release of a Bulwark poll earlier this week.
https://www.thebulwark.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Republican_Presi
dential_Primary_Toplines.pdf

The survey found that more than a quarter of likely Republican voters are ready to follow Trump to a third-party bid. Two days after the poll results were released, Trump was asked in an interview whether, if he lost the nomination, he would support the GOP nominee. Trump answered, “It would have to depend on who the nominee was.” Translation: no.

In such a closely divided nation, a third-party campaign by Trump would cripple the GOP in 2024, because almost all of Trump’s votes would come from people who would otherwise vote Republican. In some key states—Wisconsin, Arizona, Pennsylvania, Georgia, North Carolina, Michigan—that could make all the difference. (In a handful of other states, “sore-loser laws” might bar Trump from the ballot.)

But even if Trump doesn’t run as a third-party candidate, he could ensure that Republican presidential and congressional candidates lose simply by criticizing them during the campaign, accusing the Republican Party of disloyalty, and signaling to his supporters that they should sit out the election. That course of action is more straightforward, and perhaps even likelier, than a third-party bid, but it would be just as devastating to Republican prospects.

Yup.

That's why I said a year ago that DeSantis needs to sit the fuck down and wait his turn. He's my age and has plenty of time.

1/4 to 1/3 of the states won't even hold a primary anyway.

The GOP has nobody else who can run against Trump.

Trump is the latest Republican to avoid his most notable success

Trump pointed to Operation Warp Speed as his most impressive accomplishment — right up until that became politically untenable as Republicans turned against vaccines with a vengeance.

Feb. 6, 2023, 11:57 AM CST

By Steve Benen

The first sign of trouble began, oddly enough, in Alabama. In August 2021, Donald Trump headlined an event in the ruby red state he won by 25 points, and the former president briefly encouraged attendees to get Covid vaccines. The booing was audible and immediate.

In December 2021, it happened again. The Republican appeared at an event in Texas, where he acknowledged having received a booster shot — a comment that again generated booing from his ostensible supporters.

By last summer, Trump had clearly been browbeaten into submission by his own base. During a rally in Alaska, the former president described vaccines as “that I’m not allowed to mention.” He clearly wanted to brag about his record, telling the crowd that “nobody else could have done” what he did, but the Republican nevertheless grudgingly concluded, “I’m not mentioning it in front of my people.”

Trump clearly wanted to brag about the development of the lifesaving vaccines, reminding everyone that they’ve been enormously effective and deserve to be seen as a once-in-a-generation miracle. But he was also scared of getting booed by his own acolytes, so he avoided any explicit references to the “v” word.

This year, as the race for the Republican Party’s presidential nomination starts to take shape, the former president’s approach to vaccines has been overhauled. Instead of bragging about their development and urging people to protect themselves from a dangerous contagion, Trump is now trying to use the right’s hostility toward vaccines against potential GOP rivals, including Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

In a sign of how toxic the conversation about the coronavirus vaccines has become within the GOP, Mr. Trump’s allies are building a file of “opposition research” on Mr. DeSantis that consists of videos of him praising the vaccine in its early days.

When Trump spoke with reporters between recent rallies in New Hampshire and South Carolina, the former president added, in reference to DeSantis, “He promoted the vaccine as much as anybody in this country promoted it.”

Soon after Trump used his social media platform to call DeSantis “a RINO GLOBALIST,” before reminding voters that the Florida governor “loved the Vaccines,” as if that were a bad thing.

It’s worth noting for context that DeSantis’ line on Covid vaccines has followed a related trajectory: The governor supported the shots before moving in a ridiculous direction, culminating in his recent declaration that those who get the Covid bivalent booster are “more likely to get infected,” which is utterly bonkers.

But it’s Trump who’s scrambling to keep up, eyeing the vaccines developed on his watch as a cudgel to be used against perceived intraparty foes.

Oh fuck off. Here's what Democrats said about the vaccine while Trump was still President.

After Biden* was elected, they took your fucking job if you didn't get the jab after a year of trying to guilt people into taking it didn't work. And no Democrat politician ever went out of their way to give Trump any of the credit for making vaccines happen so fast. (Something I don't even believe happened, because people more powerful than our President were scheming this whole thing from the beginning, even before Trump was President).

Now people ARE dying from the vaccine and the Democrats still want you to take it.

If Democrats didn't flip-flop all the goddamned time, a lot more of them would live much longer lives than they're going to.

Man... I'd love to see Democrats flip-flop again and start blaming Trump for the vaccine and boosters killing them once enough people die that they can't hide it anymore.

You motherfuckers did this to everyone, and everybody knows it. Trump wins in a landslide if the Democrats ever acknowledge the truth of what's happening to the people who were forced to take vaccines. They've lied so long and so hard about this that they're stuck now and couldn't start telling the truth about it even if they wanted to. It would be a political disaster the likes of which no living person in the country has ever seen before.

The GOP Is Starting to Plot Against Donald Trump

Republican Party donors and leaders are talking about how best to stop Trump from running away with the nomination again in 2024. But they don’t have a clear plan to stop him.

One oddity of the current moment is that the weaker Trump seems, with federal and local investigations piling up and his campaign launch landing with a thud, the higher the chances that more possible candidates will launch their own bids, seeing a path to victory more likely. And the more candidates enter, the easier it becomes for Trump to win with an increasingly smaller share of the vote.

“I don’t think it is fair to call Donald Trump a damaged candidate,” said Eric Levine, a top GOP fundraiser who has been calling on the party to move on from Trump since the 2020 election and the uprising at the Capitol. “He is a metastasizing cancer who if he is not stopped is going to destroy the party. Donald Trump is a loser. He is the first president since Hoover to lose the House, the Senate and the presidency in a single term. Because of him Chuck Schumer is the Leader Schumer, and the progressive agenda is threatening to take over the country. And he is probably the only Republican in the country, if not the only person in the country, who can’t beat Joe Biden.”

If anybody thinks 6ixStringJack is an outlier, Texas is full of its own 6ixs by the millions who struggle to stay in the middle class. These chimps (chumps?) have a weak grip on life, at any moment they could lose their hold on the tree branch and fall. They blame the Democrats, not themselves, when other chumps just like themselves take the final fall into the abyss.

They will be voting for Trump, if they aren't dead or in the hospital. That Trumpy predilection, and their poor judgment, is why their lives are melodramatic.

Banning ideas and authors is not a ‘culture war’ – it’s fascism

Jason Stanley writes:

A wave of Republican enthusiasm for banning concepts, authors and books is sweeping across the United States. Forty-four states have proposed bans on the teaching of “divisive concepts”, and 18 states have passed them.

Florida’s Stop Woke Act bans the teaching of eight categories of concepts, including concepts that suggest that “a person, by virtue of his or her race, color, sex, or national origin, bears personal responsibility for and must feel guilt, anguish or other forms of psychological distress because of actions, in which the person played no part, committed in the past by other members of the same race, color, national origin, or sex”. Many of the laws also target Nikole Hannah-Jones’s influential 1619 Project.

These laws have already started to take effect. Administrators and teachers have been forced out of their positions on the suspicion of violating these laws, and what has started as a trickle may soon become a flood.

In January, Florida’s board of education banned AP African American studies, on the grounds that it included concepts forbidden by Governor Ron DeSantis’s law, including critical race theory and intersectionality, as well as authors such as Kimberlé Crenshaw, bell hooks, Roderick Ferguson, Angela Davis and Ta-Nehisi Coates. The College Board chose to remove these authors and subjects from its curriculum, claiming, as it turns out dubiously, that it did so independently of Florida’s pressure.

These laws have been represented by many as a “culture war”. This framing is a dangerous falsification of reality. A culture war is a conflict of values between different groups. In a diverse, pluralistic democracy, one should expect frequent conflicts. Yet laws criminalizing educators’ speech are no such thing – unlike a culture war, the GOP’s recent turn has no place in a democracy. To understand why, consider their consequences.

In other national contexts, everyone would clearly recognize the problematic nature of laws of this sort. Germany’s teaching of its Nazi past creates clear anguish and guilt in German children (and perhaps for this reason, Germany is the world’s most stable liberal democracy). If the German far-right passed laws forbidding schools from teaching about the sins of Nazism and firing teachers who broke the law on the grounds that such teaching caused anguish and guilt in German children, the world would not stand for it for one moment.

It is frequently claimed by proponents of such laws that banning discussions is freeing schools of indoctrination. And yet indoctrination rarely takes place by allowing the free flow of ideas. Indoctrination instead takes place by banning ideas. Celebrating the banning of authors and concepts as “freedom from indoctrination” is as Orwellian as politics gets.

No. Blame GOP Neo-Con "leadership" and en masse mail-in fraud ballots.

This guy gets it:

Republicans need to figure out mail-in voting

It’s being used by Democrats to influence the course of elections

https://spectatorworld.com/topic/democrats-mail-voting-midterms-fix/

Quote:

I raised the idea of outlawing mail-in voting with a canny friend. “The Dems would never allow it,” he said, comparing the practice to nuclear weapons. Once they exist, it is impossible to get rid of them. Maybe so, in which case it behooves Republicans to become experts in organizing and deploying mail-in voting for their own candidates.

If nothing else, a little competition in the mail-in ballot sweepstakes would counter the invitation to corruption that follows on the feeling that the fix is in. In the election just past, it seemed, despite media forecasts of a red wave, that a certain complacency was abroad in and about the headquarters of certain contentious races. Gretchen Whitmer never seemed particularly worried about Tudor Dixon, nor did John Fetterman seem worried about Dr. Oz. Of course, Fetterman is a special case. But the point is, I believe, they knew that the fix was in and therefore — to employ another common idiom — that the race was in the bag.

Let me break that down for you...

If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. ~Bugs Bunny

If they want to cheat, let 'em cheat. We're going to cheat better, and we're going to end up taking all the Democrat strongholds away from them co-opting the platform that they championed to allow widespread cheating and never let them cheat better than we will cheat.

We don't allow the cheating in Indiana, but I just might stay overnight at my Grandma's for a few weeks in 2024 and go door to door collecting thousands of ballots from people who would have otherwise been too lazy to vote. That's how they win. We can do it better. And it will all be legal because they made it legal.

Since we're never going to put the shit back in the horse and put an end to covid mail-in fraud ballots in the blue states, it's time for Republicans to start canvassing the streets and ballot harvesting like the Democrats do.

Here in Indiana I only have one vote; one voice. If I spend a week at my Grandma's house in Illinois though, I could have 2,500 votes; 2,500 voices, simply by using Democrat's method of legalizing cheating against them.

When Trump gets that memo what do you think your chances in 2024 are?

Yup. If a guy living in the middle of flyover country who hasn't made any money since June of 2019 could figure this one out, how long did you think it would take the strategists making the big bucks to come around to the same conclusion?

I hope you're happy opening up the floodgates for cheating, now that they're open for everyone.

Who do you think is better at cheating? I mean, the answer to that question that you'd always give under any other circumstance probably has to have you terrified right about now, huh?

Hmmmm... Maybe 2,500 votes; 2,500 voices is far too low a goal for me. I did win a SONY Boombox back in middle school for out-selling every other student in the place with one of the fundraisers, despite the fact that very little of that money came from my family and nobody else helped me sell any of it.

Just door to door knocking every day after school for hours with my eye on the prize.

Yeah. I'd better wrap up my outside work in 2024 early, because I know what I'm going to be doing in October. And Trump doesn't even have to pay me any of that campaign money to do it.

You want to cheat, motherfuckers? Suit yourself. I guaranty you that I'm better at it than you are.

Go ahead dipshits. Keep telling me that what you did hasn't opened up the door for all sorts of cheating with no checks and balances in place.

Not only can you amplify the amount of voices and votes you have, but you can actually delete voices an votes from the other side during the process, and nobody is ever going to be able to verify or prove that this happened.

You dumb fucks have been doing EXACTLY this for two elections and you still lost the house and the popular vote by 3.5 Million votes last week.

What do you think happens to Blue States when Trump decides not to throw the money into TV ads and instead mobilizes and funds grassroots campaigns to canvas blue states for ballot harvesting that you made legal for him?

My desire was that the Republicans take back the blue and swing states in one or two elections by cheating better than Democrats cheat using their own rules against them and then STOP THE CHEATING APPARATUS you dumb shits set up for them, but now I have my doubts that this will ever happen.

Why give up that amount of power?

You want to save Democracy, Democrats? I mean REALLY SAVE DEMOCRACY?

You've got two months left to do it.

On a state level you need to put the shit back in the horse now and end all mail-in and dropbox voting before you lose the house. Put the Republicans, who are just fucking itching to cheat in 2024 using the rules you set up, in a position where they would have to change those rules back and explain to their base why they're doing it (making pure hypocrites out of them in the process).

You don't have a lot of time to close those COVID loopholes you created for mail-in voting, and you can be damn sure that just like the Ring of Sauron the Republicans won't give that up if it's still open by next election now that they're figuring out how best to exploit it.

You'd better close them up and put Republicans in the hypocritical spot of opening them back up for no damn good reason, or elections are never going to be the same again.

Pennsylvania Republicans reconsider their war on mail voting

GOP officials in the state are coming to the belief that it’s better to work within the system than politically die by it.

“There’s no question in my mind that Republicans have to have a different mail-in strategy,” said Andy Reilly, a Republican National Committeeman in Pennsylvania. “When one party votes for 30 days and one party votes for one, you’re definitely going to lose.”

...

Quote:

But, to a large degree, Republicans in the state seem poised to move forward with mail voting regardless of what Trump says. Many have concluded they can’t win otherwise. Charlie Gerow, the Pennsylvania-based vice chair of the Conservative Political Action Coalition, likened the GOP’s approach to mail-in voting to a basketball player who abstains from shooting from behind the three-point line because he doesn’t like the rule.

“You could play a game that way. And more times than not, you would lose,” he said. “Or you can say, ‘Hey, I don’t like the three-point line. But by gosh, I’m going to be the best three-point shooter you can find.’ And that’s what I think the Republicans have to be now.”

I'll ask the question again...

Who do you think is better at cheating? Democrats or Republicans?

I know this is hard for some of you to hear, but as it happens, Republicans are quite capable of voting by mail too. And, as has been shown in several key California districts critical to the GOP taking over the House next month, they can also ballot harvest. It just takes a paradigm shift that has been a long time coming.

Attorney Harmeet Dhillon, who should be running the Republican National Committee instead of perpetual losers like Ronna McDaniel, suggested as much during an appearance on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle” last week. “We are not chasing ballots,” she said. “We are not doing what the Democrats do, which is making sure that we hunt down every Republican ballot and get it to the polls and get it in early.”

The Democrat Party's mail-in fraud grift is being co-opted.

You're running out of time to make sure that they can't cheat better than you can using the cheating apparatus you made for them going forward. Because spoiler alert... they can and apparently that's what they fully intend to do.

Just remember... When that time comes, YOUR Party did this.

You say that now because you just won.

Hillary Clinton is a lot of things, but she isn't stupid. She's been saying that Republicans are going to cheat and win in 2024 since two months before the 2022 election.

What she didn't tell you was that they're going to cheat using the cheating apparatus that the Democrat party set up for them during Covid. The same cheating apparatus that saw Joe Biden* SHATTER any previous popular vote total for a President in history by over 10 MILLION VOTES, other than Trump's 74.2 Million in the same election which would have been the most popular votes for a President in history. This is because while Republicans all voted on one day, Democrats were canvassing streets and stuffing ballot boxes for at least a month before the election on top of whatever Democrats voted in person at the polling place on Election Day like we used to do before Covid.

In 2020, Democrats made these new rules and funded and organized the vast efforts to exploit those rules, completely fucking obliterating the off-guard Republicans.

In 2022, after two years of Republicans crying about it and powerless to change any of it in blue states and swing states where it was enabled, Democrats spent even more money and time exploiting those new rules while Republicans once again only spent one day voting, doomed to lose once again because of it. (The only exceptions being in parts of New York and California where Republicans DID spend time and money exploiting Democrat's new voting rules and won races they otherwise never would have won). IN OTHER WORDS... THE ONLY REASON THE REPUBLICANS REGAINED CONTROL OF THE HOUSE IN 2022 IS BECAUSE THEY CHEATED IN PARTS OF NEW YORK AND CALIFORNIA USING THE CHEATING APPARATUS DEMOCRATS MADE LEGALLY AVAILABLE TO THEM IN 2020 DURING COVID LOCKDOWNS.

Now that Republican politicians and strategists have acknowledged this and fully plan on embracing and exploiting it rather than trying to close it all back up, I don't want to hear you whining about it when it doesn't go your way, Ted.

You were warned.

Guess who is finally on board with me...

The Wall Street Journal: Donald Trump Changes Tune on Mail-in Voting, Ballot Collection
After years of attacks on early voting, Trump follows other Republicans in suggesting party should embrace tactic

https://www.wsj.com/articles/donald-trump-changes-tune-on-mail-in-voti
ng-ballot-collection-fa7193be

Quote:

The 2024 presidential candidate remains critical of various forms of early voting, advisers say, but his campaign is nonetheless mounting an effort to pursue such votes after Democrats excelled at doing so in recent elections. His team is studying state laws governing absentee and mail-in voting as well as ballot collection, called “ballot harvesting” by critics, in which third parties gather and turn in votes, people familiar with the effort said.

...

Mr. Trump highlighted the move in a fundraising email this week, saying, “The radical Democrats have used ballot harvesting to cancel out YOUR vote and walk away with elections that they NEVER should have won. But I’m doing something HUGE to fight back.”

The email added, “Our path forward is to MASTER the Democrats’ own game of harvesting ballots in every state we can. But that also means we need to start laying the foundation for victory RIGHT NOW.”

...

As the Trump campaign reorients, so too are some GOP officials in 2024 battleground states. In Michigan, for instance, the leading candidate for state Republican chair has called for “the biggest ballot-harvesting program this state has ever seen.”

Many national Republicans also say the party needs to use whatever legal avenues are available to chase votes and not be so reliant on Election Day. The Republican National Committee is studying the issue as part of its post-midterm election analysis.

“We simply have to beat them at this,” Blake Masters, the Arizona GOP candidate who lost to Democratic Sen. Mark Kelly in a closely watched battleground race, said on Twitter in November.

...

“If you want to win races, you have to play by the rules that are given to you. You can cry all you want about what the rules are, but if you want to change them you’ve got to win elections,” said Jessica Millan Patterson, who has made a focus of her tenure as the chairwoman of the California Republican Party bolstering the party’s ballot-collection efforts.

...

Mr. DeSantis—who is widely expected to enter the 2024 presidential race after his state’s legislative session ends in May—also appeared at the event and had a similar message. During his re-election campaign last year he often urged voters to cast early ballots in case something happened on Election Day. He won by nearly 20 percentage points.

EVERYTHING these prominent Republican politicians including Trump is saying now is exactly the scenario I've been telling you was going to happen, as catalogued above.

You should have heeded my multiple warnings and rallied for your Democrat politicians to close these covid related ballot changes in blue states while you had a chance, but you didn't.

Now you're fucked.

And also let it be known that I was saying this FIRST. Before anybody in the news or political analysts wrote about it, even longer before Republican Politicians started embracing the idea, and certainly LOOOOOOONG before Donald Trump told everybody what his intentions going forward are.

I can't wait to hear you chucklefucks crying all day and all night long for 4 years after Donald J. Trump destroys the Democratic Party in 2024 using all of the legal loopholes you've created for cheating against you, and watching you hypocrites with memories of goldfish claiming that the election was stolen because of ballot harvesting cheating.

You won't be wrong when you do, but you're going to forget who served it up for Republicans to take advantage of. They WILL cheat better than you do. They are more organized and they aren't operating under the Oppression Umbrella, trying to serve every faction chronic whiners that isn't white and isn't male while forgetting that none of them like each other either, because they don't like anybody.

This is all your fault. And now you're going to get what you deserve.

I hope Biden*'s terrible 4 years in office was worth destroying and deligitimatizing the entire system of voting in America.

Because, SPOILER ALERT: Contrary to any claims otherwise right now, there won't be one goddamned Republican other than maybe Rand Paul and a few of the "alt right" politicians that are still going to be calling to close those loopholes after they get a taste of how easy it will be for them to win every election that matters going forward... Just like Ron DeSantis did in what is now Forever Red Florida.

Donald Trump is mentioned in Chapter 10 "Believe in truth"
from On Tyranny _ Twenty lessons from the twentieth century (2017) by Timothy Snyder

You submit to tyranny when you renounce the difference between what you want to hear and what is actually the case. This renunciation of reality can feel natural and pleasant, but the result is your demise as an individual—and thus the collapse of any political system that depends upon individualism. As observers of totalitarianism such as Victor Klemperer noticed, truth dies in four modes, all of which we have just witnessed.

The first mode is the open hostility to verifiable reality, which takes the form of presenting inventions and lies as if they were facts. The president does this at a high rate and at a fast pace. One attempt during the 2016 campaign to track his utterances found that 78 percent of his factual claims were false. This proportion is so high that it makes the correct assertions seem like unintended oversights on the path toward total fiction. Demeaning the world as it is begins the creation of a fictional counterworld.

The second mode is shamanistic incantation. As Klemperer noted, the fascist style depends upon “endless repetition,” designed to make the fictional plausible and the criminal desirable. The systematic use of nicknames such as “Lyin’ Ted” and “Crooked Hillary” displaced certain character traits that might more appropriately have been affixed to the president himself. Yet through blunt repetition over Twitter, our president managed the transformation of individuals into stereotypes that people then spoke aloud. At rallies, the repeated chants of “Build that wall” and “Lock her up” did not describe anything that the president had specific plans to do, but their very grandiosity established a connection between him and his audience.

The next mode is magical thinking, or the open embrace of contradiction. The president’s campaign involved the promises of cutting taxes for everyone, eliminating the national debt, and increasing spending on both social policy and national defense. These promises mutually contradict. It is as if a farmer said he were taking an egg from the henhouse, boiling it whole and serving it to his wife, and also poaching it and serving it to his children, and then returning it to the hen unbroken, and then watching as the chick hatches.

Accepting untruth of this radical kind requires a blatant abandonment of reason. Klemperer’s descriptions of losing friends in Germany in 1933 over the issue of magical thinking ring eerily true today. One of his former students implored him to “abandon yourself to your feelings, and you must always focus on the Führer’s greatness, rather than on the discomfort you are feeling at present.” Twelve years later, after all the atrocities, and at the end of a war that Germany had clearly lost, an amputated soldier told Klemperer that Hitler “has never lied yet. I believe in Hitler.”

The final mode is misplaced faith. It involves the sort of self-deifying claims the president made when he said that “I alone can solve it” or “I am your voice.” When faith descends from heaven to earth in this way, no room remains for the small truths of our individual discernment and experience. What terrified Klemperer was the way that this transition seemed permanent. Once truth had become oracular rather than factual, evidence was irrelevant. At the end of the war a worker told Klemperer that “understanding is useless, you have to have faith. I believe in the Führer.”

Trump says he won’t cut Medicare or Social Security. Don’t believe him.
Trump has made similar promises in the past. They were lies.

Some Republican lawmakers who have long favored cuts are openly frustrated by Trump’s positioning: “It got him elected the first time, and I think it will get him elected the second time,” Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa told Politico. “But it doesn’t do anything for our children and grandchildren that aren’t going to have a program that I’m enjoying right now.”

We’ve seen this gambit before. In his 2016 presidential campaign, Trump repeatedly pledged that he wouldn’t cut Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid. It was a sharp break from GOP orthodoxy, and it got him a great deal of attention. As a right-wing nationalist, Trump wasn’t ideologically drawn toward the old Republican establishment’s emphasis on “fiscal responsibility” and gutting government services; his chief economic concerns were tied to trade, manufacturing and immigration. He also knew that entitlement programs — especially Social Security and Medicare — are popular across the country and supported by huge swaths of the Republican base and that past attempts to “reform” them with cuts have failed because of their centrality to the American social safety net. It was a win-win.

But after he entered office, all of Trump's White House budget proposals included cuts to Medicare and Social Security. The health care legislation he worked on with Republicans entailed big cuts to Medicaid. Not cutting Social Security and Medicare was only an election gimmick.

The right’s war on queer and trans people took center stage at the Conservative Political Action Conference as Daily Wire host Michael Knowles on Saturday called for the eradication of “transgenderism.”

During his speech on Saturday, Knowles told the crowd, “For the good of society … transgenderism must be eradicated from public life entirely — the whole preposterous ideology, at every level.”

Knowles subsequently claimed that “eradicating” “transgenderism” is not a call for eradicating transgender people and demanded retractions from numerous publications, including Rolling Stone.

Erin Reed, a transgender rights activist and writer, tells Rolling Stone that it’s an absurd distinction. There is no difference between a ban on “transgenderism” and an attack on transgender people, she says: “They are one and the same, and there’s no separation between them.”

Reed says that Knowles and others at the Daily Wire, including anti-trans activist Matt Walsh, are not just talking about keeping transgender people out of public life, they’re actively working to make it happen.

Trump has entered his fat Elvis stage

Jonathan Capehart discussed Donald Trump's speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference over the weekend that pledged, "I am your retribution."

"The crowd cheered, even if he wasn't playing to a full house," Capehart mocked of the small crowd size at the conference. "Retributions against whom, exactly? Voters who rejected the Trump brand of democratic values and hand-picked candidates? The lawmakers to impeach him twice? The federal and state prosecutors overseeing many investigations into Donald Trump? But even as Donald Trump enters his 'fat Elvis' stage, it's imperative to take his threat to democracy seriously. It's still not clear who's gonna stand up to him in a Republican primary."

"This is once more the quiet part out loud. This is Donald Trump acting like a tin pot dictator aspires to be. This is a sort of stuff that guys in funny uniforms with lots of phony medals on them say to their supporters. And it's a way of enlivening them. It's a way of combatting democratic institutions. It's a way of putting everyone on notice, and it's a direct attack on the rule of law, unlimited government, on the Constitution itself. So, the only thing that is different this time around is, as you point out the audience was pretty puny. And secondly, that he actually said it, rather than simply imply it."

Quote of the day: Bomb Mexico

House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-KY) said Tuesday morning that it was a “mistake” that the administration didn’t go through with bombing drug labs in Mexico after then-President Donald Trump suggested it in 2020.

“One of the things we learned post-Trump presidency is that he had ordered a bombing of a couple of fentanyl labs, crystal meth labs, in Mexico, just across the border and for whatever reason the military didn’t do it,” he said on Fox News. “I think that was a mistake.”

That Trump suggested bombing the United States’ southern neighbor and ally was revealed in former Defense Secretary Mark Esper’s book, “A Sacred Oath,” last year. Esper relayed that Trump thought such an act of war could be performed discreetly.

“When Mr. Esper raised various objections, Mr. Trump said that ‘we could just shoot some Patriot missiles and take out the labs, quietly,’ adding that ‘no one would know it was us,’” the New York Times wrote from an advanced copy of Esper’s book. “Mr. Trump said he would just say that the United States had not conducted the strike, Mr. Esper recounts, writing that he would have thought it was a joke had he not been staring Mr. Trump in the face.”

Okey dokey. It sure is good that the adults are back in charge in the House.

In a new survey from Emerson College, based in neighboring Massachusetts, Trump leads the GOP field with 58%. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis holds second with just 17%, and Gov. Chris Sununu is third with 7%.

Over the weekend, Sununu predicted that Trump would lose the Granite State primary, still slated as the first for the Republicans next year. He also said Trump would lose the presidential race.

But Emerson College Polling Executive Director Spencer Kimball said, “Gov. Sununu is unable to surpass 10% among any demographic groups.”

LOL... MAGA bitches.

The latest poll for the Republican primary in FLORIDA has Trump up by 3 points.

Please, please, please arrest Trump on bullshit charges tomorrow.

Oh... and P.S....

In case you didn't know, Ted, Stormy Daniels lost her appeal in a defamation suit that Trump brought against her. She told the judge she'll go to prison before paying it.

What do you think? Will she pay up or will she go to prison?

Trump and DeSantis are all that matter. Nobody else stands a chance in hell and are only going to be in it to either A) get a position in the new cabinet, B) position themselves for a future run, C) hope that they get picked for VP, D) sign a book deal, E) Any/All of the above.

Trump lost in 2020 by 8 million votes, 8 million. The anti-Trump voter doesn't worry if Trump wins the 2024 primary. They welcome it dummies. We love all of you forever Trumpers. You guaranty our success.
