GOP leaders at a literal loss for words about Biden-era job growth

Late last week, Americans received more great employment news: The economy added another 315,000 jobs in August, bringing the total for the year to 3.5 million jobs, with several months to go. This is a total more in line with what we’d expect to see in a full year, not eight months into the year. It also outpaces any individual year from Donald Trump’s term.

But wouldn’t you know it, GOP leaders on the Hill responded to the job numbers by saying literally nothing about the good news. No press releases, no tweets, and no public comments. They literally found themselves speechless.

Trump Support Collapses, Majority of Independents Don't Want 2024 Run: Poll

While Trump's overall support for reelection has not changed since December 2020, the former president has lost the backing of the key independent demographic. The latest poll found that just 28 percent of independents believe Trump should run for office again, while more than two-thirds (67 percent) say he should not.

Also, RCP just announced they project 2 senate pickups in November.

Joe Biden* is done. Joe Biden* will be impeached. Joe Biden*'s student debt relief will be thrown out in court. Democrats will be punished for Covid response.

In his column for the Atlantic, longtime conservative commentator Peter Wehner claims that Donald Trump has done irreparable damage to the Republican Party because it has adopted some of his worst characteristics and tactics.

Pointing out that the Republican Party he joined stood for law and order and moral values, the columnist claimed the current iteration has thrown it away because of their "... fealty to Trump despite his ceaseless lying and dehumanizing rhetoric, his misogyny and appeals to racism, his bullying and conspiracy theories."

"Something malicious has occurred since Trump won the nomination in 2016. Six years ago, Republicans jettisoned their previous moral commitments in order to align themselves with the MAGA movement. Today, they have inverted them. Lawmakers, candidates, and those in the right-wing media ecosystem celebrate and imitate Trump’s nihilism, cynicism, and cruelty," he wrote before adding, "What was once considered a bug is now a feature. This is the result of individuals’ and institutions’ accommodation of one moral transgression after another after another. With each moral compromise, the next one — a worse one — becomes easier to accept. Conduct that would have horrified Republicans in the past now causes them, at best, to shrug their shoulders; at worst, they delight in it."

"Let's leave abortion decisions to the states," they said.

The big picture: Graham's anti-abortion law comes less than two months out from the midterm elections, with abortion expected to be an important issue for voters following the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v Wade.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) will announce plans for a new bill on national abortion restrictions Tuesday.

Driving the news: That's according to an email from Graham's office on Monday night saying he will hold a press conference with anti-abortion leaders on the introduction of the Protecting Pain-Capable Unborn Children from Late-Term Abortions Act.

Graham has previously introduced bills that sought to ban abortions nationally from 20 weeks. But the new measure is expected to call for a ban from 15 weeks, per the Washington Post. Representatives for Graham did not immediately respond to Axios' request for comment on the matter.

Ukraine becomes a front in America’s cultural and political wars

On Aug. 29 Tucker Carlson of Fox News attacked President Biden’s policy on Ukraine, asserting among other things: “By any actual reality-based measure, Vladimir Putin is not losing the war in Ukraine. He is winning the war in Ukraine.” Carlson went on, by the way, to assert that Biden is supporting Ukraine only because he wants to destroy the West.

Carlson’s timing was impeccable. Just a few days later, a large section of the Russian front near Kharkiv was overrun by a Ukrainian attack. It’s important to note that Putin’s forces weren’t just pushed back; they appear to have been routed. As the independent Institute for the Study of War reported, the Russians were driven into a “panicked and disorderly retreat,” leaving behind “large amounts of equipment and supplies that Ukrainian forces can use.”

The Russian collapse seemed to validate analyses by defense experts who have been saying for months that Western weapons have been shifting the military balance in Ukraine’s favor, that Putin’s army is desperately short on quality manpower and that it has been degraded by attrition and missile attacks on its rear areas. These analyses suggested that Russian forces might eventually reach a breaking point, although few expected that point to come so soon and so dramatically.

There’s something special about the MAGA embrace of the mystique of Russian might: a worldview that equates tough-guy swagger with effectiveness. This worldview has warped the right’s perception not just of the Russian Army but also of how to deal with many other issues. And it’s worth asking where it comes from.

Many Republicans have admired Putin for a long time — even before Donald Trump took over the G.O.P. Back in 2014, for example, Rudy Giuliani said of Putin, “That’s what you call a leader.” And Trump continued to praise Putin even after he invaded Ukraine.

So it’s not hard to see where the MAGA right’s admiration for Putinism comes from. After all, Putin’s Russia is autocratic, brutal and homophobic, with a personality cult built around its ruler. What’s not to like?

Yet admiring a regime’s values needn’t mean having faith in its military prowess. On the right, however, approval of authoritarian regimes is all bound up with assertions about their military prowess. For example, last year Ted Cruz tweeted about a video comparing scenes of a tough-looking Russian soldier with a shaved head with a U.S. Army recruiting video featuring a female corporal raised by two mothers. “Perhaps a woke, emasculated military is not the best idea,” opined Cruz.

Actually, the U.S. military is sort of woke, in the sense that it is highly diverse and inclusive, encourages independent thinking and initiative on the part of junior officers and is, at the higher levels, quite intellectual.

The Russian Army, on the other hand, definitely isn’t woke. Conscripts face brutal hazing. According to Mark Hertling, a former commander of U.S. forces in Europe, it’s riddled with “mafialike” corruption and its officers are terrible.

The broader point is that modern wars aren’t won by looking tough. Courage — which the Ukrainians have shown in almost inconceivable abundance — is essential; but it doesn’t have much to do with bulging biceps. And bravery must go hand in hand with being smart and flexible, qualities the Russian Army evidently lacks.

Did I mention that women make up more than a fifth of Ukraine’s military?

The import of all these factors should be obvious. Modern war is like the modern economy (with an additional element of sheer terror, but still): Success depends more on skill, knowledge and openness to ideas than on muscle power. But the MAGA ethos is all bound up with exaltation of tough talk and denigration of expertise. (Prosecute Anthony Fauci!) The American right needed to see Putin as a leader made powerful by his rejection of liberal values; admitting that Russia has proved that it isn’t a great power would call the whole MAGA philosophy into question.

The result is that the war, while it is of course overwhelmingly a fight for Ukrainian freedom, has also, weirdly, become a front in America’s cultural and political wars.

There’s growing speculation about what will happen inside Russia if the invasion of Ukraine ends in outright defeat. But you also have to wonder how the U.S. right will handle the revelation that sometimes tough guys finish last.

Here's a real look at Trump's endorsement record without the Leftist propaganda or lying by omission.

https://ballotpedia.org/Endorsements_by_Donald_Trump

SPOILER ALERT 1: Every US Senate candidate he endorsed won the Primary.

SPOILER ALERT 2: Of all the US House candidates he endorsed, only 6 lost the Primary. I stopped counting after 100 endorsements, but there's at least 150.

SPOILER ALERT 3: Of the 25 State Legislative seats he endorsed, 1 was not on the primary ballot and only 5 lost the Primary.

SPOILER ALERT 4: Of the 46 State Executive seats he endorsed, only 7 lost the Primary.

SPOILER ALERT 5: Of the 4 local endorsements by Trump, 0 lost.

Lindsey Graham’s Federal Abortion Ban will nudge the election. But which way?

Holy. Shit. Republicans’ newly-introduced national abortion ban would put doctors in prison for up to 5 years, force women to undergo extremely invasive trans-vaginal ultrasounds, and keep in place statewide bans that force rape victims to give birth.

Not "Republican's" ban. Lindsey's ban.

My first thought when seeing this yesterday was "Lindsey is an idiot".

And I found this headline, written by a dude who hates Democrats at Townhall.com, today...

Lindsey Graham Is an Idiot

https://townhall.com/columnists/derekhunter/2022/09/15/lindsey-graham-
is-an-idiot-n2613101

Quote:

Let me say at the outset that I’d rather have Lindsey Graham in the United States Senate than any Democrat, especially the clown he beat last time who is now the Chairman of the Democratic National Committee (liberals fail up). Jamie Harrison is a racist pile of garbage on top of being a moron who would do everything he was told by the White House. Graham is a lot of things, and one of them is significantly better than Harrison is in every way. But he’s far from perfect and getting farther away from it every day.

When John McCain was alive Lindsey Graham followed him around like a puppy and did all he could to imitate him. When McCain died, Graham was kind of lost and latched on to President Donald Trump. Since Trump left office, Graham has been kind of lost – desperate to matter and get media attention while trying to placate his progressive instincts to “do something” about whatever the domestic issue is and embracing every prospect for war because that’s been the only constant in his career.

In that attempt to “matter” and “do something,” Senator Graham proposed this week to create a “new regulatory agency” to license companies like Twitter. As awful at these tech companies are and can be, the idea of a new regulatory agency is worse. Is there nothing that exists that could be repurposed? Graham isn’t even floating the idea of eliminating one or several existing agencies that have outlived their usefulness and reforming them to handle this, putting aside the idea of the feds licensing these companies. I might look favorably on it if there was a 3 to 1 elimination of existing jobs for the creation of new ones, something to shrink government at least a little. But it’s not part of this.

Graham’s proclamation on this new agency involves “teaming up” with Senator Elizabeth Warren, and there is no way she will ever allow for the shrinking of government or anything remotely good. How lost do you have to be to think Warren is an ally?

But working with a Massachusetts liberal is hardly the biggest problem Graham created this week. For reasons unknown, as he is not up this cycle, Graham decided to undercut the conservative argument against Roe v Wade being overturned and introduce a federal abortion ban after 15 weeks.

You might agree with the sentiment, but the execution is a horrible idea. First, it gives the left something to badger Republican candidates coast to coast on the issue. While that might play well in Georgia’s Senate race, it could be a different result in Pennsylvania or Ohio. Every campaign needs to be free to run however it deems best, they don’t needs some jackass in DC dictating terms and arming their opponents. Now they’ll all have to answer about Graham’s proposal repeatedly.

Second, the conservative argument against Roe in a nutshell was it’s horribly decided, and should it be overturned it wouldn’t outlaw abortion but return it to the states. Democrats want to federalize abortion in the law, Republicans wanted it left to the states. Lindsey Graham’s legislation cedes the point to Democrats that this is an issue for the federal government.

A 15-week ban would legalize abortion nationwide up to that point, doing the bidding of Democrats by usurping the power from the states for the feds. What’s the point? Don’t give me the morality argument, we aren’t dealing with morality we’re dealing with the Constitution.

Murder isn’t a federal crime, it’s a state crime. States should be able to decide for themselves their laws on most things, including abortion. If you want to outlaw it, it’s much easier to do it on a state-by-state basis than nationally. We’d just won the concept of federalism on abortion and Lindsay Graham came along and bombed it. Why?

That’s the real question: why now? There is no good answer, or at least no rational one.

The only thing I can come up with is without someone to suck up to, Graham is reverting back to his McCain roots. There’s something to be said for boat rocking, but it should only be done when the boat needs to be rocked. Doing it for attention or lack of self-control are not good reasons. For the cheering he’s getting from some quarters, his actions are doing damage in others. He either doesn’t know or doesn’t care, and for that reason he’s an idiot.

Independents call out everyone when they're idiots.

Republicans call out their own when they're idiots.

Democrats never call out their own.

Incorrect.

Idiot Graham's federal law would actually pull back on very unpopular near-total abortion bans like the ones that the idiot Republicans in Indiana already passed and are going to be passed by idiot Republicans in a few other states.

But that's the rub with Federal laws, innit? Because it would also severely curtail total abortion freedom in states like California and New York as well.

My stance is that EVERYBODY is wrong on this issue.

A) I'm 100% against any federal law superseding state laws. So fuck Lindsey Graham.

B) Republicans in states like Indiana are making a huge mistake passing laws like this to please the ever-shrinking religious portion of their base because they are unpopular with nearly everyone else.

C) Democrats in states like California and New York that let you kill a baby until it takes its first breath out of the vagina to please their pink haired weirdo Twitter base are making a huge mistake because that is unpopular with nearly everyone else.

You know I have a personal experience with this, but I'm willing to throw emotion aside and be pragmatic about this, which is more than I can say about any politician on either side of the aisle.

Overpopulation is also the biggest problem that humanity faces and nobody ever talks about, so abortion has actually served a purpose for the greater good for decades now. Both here and abroad. We'd have 10 Billion people on the planet already if abortions were illegal all over the world. Maybe more... Who knows how many babies the Chinese have murdered... often after birth.

Not only did RCP take one of the Senate tossups and throw it to the GOP yesterday, but now it's taken one of the Dem Governors and thrown it into the tossup category today.

So now they're saying there is a possibility there may only be 15 Democratic governors a few months from now.

And it's probably much worse for Dems than that since you'd have to be insane to tell a random stranger that you're not voting Democrat after Biden* did that speech and unleashed the Leftist lunatics on the rest of the country.

They might not have guns, but vehicles, samurai swords and hatchets do the job just as well, apparently.

LOL

Keep dreaming, buddy.

Half of the states won't even hold a primary election when Trump announces he's running again in 2024.

Even in the alternate timeline where WaPo didn't lie about everything and Trump actually was down 20 points 2 years before the next Presidential election, 100% of Republicans are going to vote for Trump over Biden* or whatever Democrat weasel they put in his place once he's The Guy.

Well... 100% except for Liz Cheney, her dad, Mitt Romney and the Bushes. Yanno... all those Neo-Con warmongers that jerk off at the alter of John Bolton that you love blowing everyday who are in charge of running the Lincoln Project.

Nancy Pelosi Booed At NYC [Global Citizen Music] Festival: 'Doesn't Bode Well For Dems Ahead Of Mid-Terms'

Sunday, Sep 25, 2022 - 09:00 PM

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi made a surprise appearance at a Saturday night music festival in New York City, called the "Global Citizen music festival". She was introduced on stage by Priyanka Chopra Jonas, wife of American singer and actor Nick Jonas, to speak about climate change and carbon pollution.

But instead of the climactic "surprise" celebratory moment that organizers were hoping for, Pelosi's presence triggered loud boos from the sizeable audience, as multiple videos from the event show...

The days of Nance getting any love are over.

Although I did see shitheel Lars from Metallica getting all cozy with her backstage for a photo op. He's been a government stooge since he helped get Napster shut down. There will never be an end to rich celebrity types gargling Democrat balls.

Generic house ballot just flipped from over 1 point positive for Democrats back to 1 point positive for Republicans today.

RCP's prediction of +2 Republican governor pickups had gone to only +1 for a few days too but is now back to +2.

It's only going to get worse for Democrats as we get closer to winter, especially now with gas prices back on the rise.

And those polls are total bullshit right now anyhow after Biden* threatened half the country in that horrible speech.

The Democrat Party is finished.

'Where is the honor?' Conservative voter condemns Donald Trump's toxification of the Republican Party

A disillusioned conservative voter posted a testimonial that was shared by the Republican Accountability Project on Twitter over the weekend lamenting the political poison with which former President Donald Trump has toxified the GOP.

"I don't actually believe there is a Republican Party at this point. I think we have a Trumplican party, and like many other Republicans, I consider myself politically homeless," said the woman, who identified herself as Brenda. "There is nothing that I see in today's Republican Party that even remotely resembles the values, you know, the ideals, everything that I believed in that led me to join the Republican Party, all of that's gone. Former House Speaker Paul Ryan said former President Donald Trump will not be the GOP presidential nominee in 2024.

By then, Trump's "unelectability will be palpable," the former Republican lawmaker said in a Teneo Insights Series conversation.

"We all know that he will lose," Ryan said. "Or, let me put it this way: We all know that he's so much more likely to lose the White House than anybody else running for president on our side of the aisle. So why would we want to go with that?"

Ryan, the GOP's former 2012 vice presidential nominee, said the only reason he stays relevant is that "everybody's afraid of him" going after them.

"The fact that he polls so much poorer than anybody else running for president, as a Republican against the Democrat, is enough right there. He's gonna know this. And so whether he runs or not, I don't really know if it matters. He's not going to be the nominee," Ryan went on.

He said Trump will "try and intimidate people out of the race as long as he can." Republican contenders will delay their decisions and wait for someone else to jump in first and "take the ire of Trump."

"It's sort of a prisoner's dilemma," he said.

But he said the person who gets in the race first can also get a jump on signing up donors and supporters and establishing a campaign organization. A handful of people will run because it's the only cycle when they can do it and they can't wait until 2028, he said.

"The one inexhaustible power in politics is ambition. You can count on that," he said.

The only outstanding question, he said, is whether there will be so many "non-Trump" Republicans running that they divide up that vote so that Trump gets the nomination. "But I think you'll see enough of a consolidation in the primary that that's probably not the case," he said.

It's not about being impressed. It's about Google not allowing it until this week and it immediately shoots up to the top of the app store. Not just for social media apps, but all apps.

It was also top of Apple's download charts as well.

Michael Cohen, Donald Trump's ex-personal attorney, said he believes the former president is unlikely to launch another White House bid in 2024 as it would impact his ability to spend the millions he raised in political funds in the way he wants to. Under Federal Election Commission rules, Trump's power to spend money raised through a PAC is pretty much unlimited.

"But if he runs, all the money would then have to go into a campaign fund. People would have to start expressing who they are, and it becomes listed," Cohen told MSNBC's Ali Velshi.

"They don't want that any more than he wants that."

Cohen said Trump has far greater discretion over how he spends money raised through his PACs than he would if they were campaign funds.

"It's a slush fund," he said. "He can buy himself a new airplane, or he can use the money to fix his old airplane right now."

ot-run-for-the-presidency-in-2024-as-it-would-destroy-his-political-fundraising-grift/ar-AA133dLp

Never worry because Trump will be fine. Not you, but he'll be. Why? Trump has raised around $387 million through his PAC, since leaving office, mostly from small donations raised on the basis of issues such as his bogus claim the 2020 election was stolen from him and the August FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago. https://uk.news.yahoo.com/trump-spent-91-cents-raise-010746136.html

Trump will raise at least $1 billion per year if he is indicted ($10 times 100 million Trumptards). His legal expenses won't be more than $52 million (52 weeks in a year). He will be swimming in money that he can spend any way he wants, but if he files for any political office (dogcatcher?) he has got to spend the money only on legal and campaign expenses.

Who is Trump? Chris Christie knows what makes Donald Trump tick.

Which is why it’s worth listening to the former New Jersey governor – and onetime Trump ally – when he explains why he thinks the former President kept classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago home after leaving the White House.

“I think it’s much more likely that they’re a trophy, that he walks around and says, ‘Look, I’ve got this, I’ve got this classified document or that,’” Christie said during an appearance on ABC’s “This Week.” “Because, remember something, he can’t believe he’s not president. He can’t believe he still doesn’t get these documents. And he needs to display to everybody down at Mar-a-Lago, or up in Bedminster during the summer, that he still has some of those trappings.”

assified-documents/index.html

Christie didn't say it directly, but he is describing Trump as wacko in the head.
