Like going off at people online?
Like envisioning killing off nearly the entire world population?
Like picking fights?

WISHY: I'm female, I'm not likely to murder...

Of all of the people on the board, the first person I would expect to be able to murder is SECOND, because he's been in war, but the second person would be you. You seem kinda unbalanced, to me.

but try to force your fascism on me and mine, I have not a qualm in the world. That's my line in the sand. I WILL NOT BE A SLAVE.
Especially not to your dumb ass.

See what I mean by "unbalanced"? The moment you start thinking about OH THE INJUSTICE OF IT ALL!!! you start treating innocent people like the enemy. Well, I'm not your enemy.

But I have a deal for you: The minute you see me standing outside of your door with a gun, trying to force you to do... anything ... you have my permission to shoot me! Sound fair?

The president can protest that the stock market falling, the spread of the virus and the resulting economic damage are not his fault. He may even be right about that—not in the sense that his handling of the matter has been competent, but in the sense that this particular virus may have been beyond the power of even competent management to contain. But presidents rarely get spared political blame for economic shocks beyond their control. And a president who ties his political fate so energetically to the state of the economy and the market—who declares that voters should ignore apparent illegality, corruption, and serial failures of decency because their retirement accounts are faring well and their job prospects are good—may prove particularly vulnerable to conditions that undermine the premise of his argument. The fact that he has long claimed to control the economy with the force of his will makes his inability to do so now a particular liability.

The point here is not to predict, much less to hope, that the virus will do what Mueller and Schiff could not. The Fox and Friends host Pete Hegseth claimed that “the Democrats” and “the media” are “rooting for coronavirus to spread.” Acting Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney, similarly, told an audience at the Conservative Political Action Conference that the press thinks “this will bring down the president, that’s what this is all about.”

Everyone should be hoping that Trump handles this matter brilliantly—even if that means that he reaps political benefit from it. Situations like this are among the reasons the country needs a functioning executive branch, and all Americans are invested in the presidency’s success in managing the disease’s spread.

The risks of considering the likely political impact of the virus and its economic fallout are already visible in the deranged response to it by some of the president’s political supporters, who—clearly fearing some of the very effects we are describing here—are busy putting out information that may well get people killed. The talk-radio host Rush Limbaugh’s insistence that COVID-19 is nothing more than “the common cold,” and statements by Fox News hosts that frightening news coverage of the virus is aimed only at taking down the president, would be irresponsible in any context. But comments minimizing the harms of the epidemic are particularly dangerous, given that listeners to Limbaugh and viewers of Fox News tend to be older, and elderly people are dramatically more likely to die if they contract the virus.

Our point, rather, is that the challenge President Trump now faces is one he cannot obviously meet with the usual toolkit he has relied on during previous crises. He can meet it only by actually doing the job of president of the United States, which is—in a fundamental sense—a management position that supervises a raft of executive agencies with immense resources to address a wide range of issues. This is exactly the part of the job Trump has never shown the slightest interest in or capacity for. It is the part of the job that he actively disdains.

The solution to this problem involves faithful—and skillful—execution of the powers of the government. It is not an exaggeration to say that many lives may depend on his undergoing that transformation. The president cannot rely on his usual strategies of lying and bullying to fight the spread of the coronavirus.

Do you not understand how the Twatter works?

Her affirmation for a deleted post is still there. She still retweeted it. Just because the original post was deleted doesn't mean that this didn't happen.

Oh... yeah. And she used the OK hand gesture emoji, which as T has informed us all is the nationally recognized symbol for White Power.

EDIT: TWATTER 101

Has a post you wanted to share gone missing or been deleted? No problem. Just follow these simple steps to find it.

1. Copy URL of Original Deleted Tweet.
2. Go to Google, Paste Full URL, Search.
3. If tweet URL shows up in results, look for little arrow to the right of it.
4. Select “cached”
5. Open cached version of the tweet and screenshot.

According to the new research, Covid-19’s ability to bind to cells is 100 to 1,000 times stronger than SARS. They claim that, unlike other coronaviruses, Covid-19 attacks a protein called furin – just like Ebola and HIV. They believe this is the reason why the virus seems to be significantly more infectious than similar diseases like SARS and MERS.

Incompetence/laziness/dishonesty are the real problems:

Criticized for Coronavirus Response, Trump Points to Obama Administration

President Trump sought on Wednesday to deflect criticism of his administration’s response to the coronavirus onto his predecessor, complaining that a federal agency decision under President Barack Obama had made it harder to quickly enact widespread testing for the virus.

“The Obama administration made a decision on testing that turned out to be very detrimental to what we’re doing, and we undid that decision a few days ago so that the testing can take place in a much more accurate and rapid fashion,” Mr. Trump said. “That was a decision we disagreed with. I don’t think we would have made it, but for some reason it was made. But we’ve undone that decision.”

It was not entirely clear what he was referring to. Health experts and veterans of the government during Mr. Obama’s presidency said they were unaware of any policy or rule changes during the last administration that would have affected the way the Food and Drug Administration approved tests during the current crisis. Moreover, if there were, Mr. Trump did not explain why his administration did not change the rules during its first three years in office.

The coronavirus outbreak is now into its third month. Testing restrictions were lifted over the weekend.

Mr. Trump appeared intent on focusing attention on the Obama administration at a time when his own handling of the outbreak has come under intense criticism. He made a point of using the former president’s name in comments to reporters during a White House meeting with airline executives, called to discuss the economic effect of the virus.

Among other things, critics have pointed to the dismantling of a White House effort set up by Mr. Obama to respond to global health emergencies. The officials involved have left and not been replaced over the past two years, a point made by Obama administration veterans in recent days.

No coronavirus issue has attracted as much attention as testing, which even now lags behind other countries dealing with the virus. Local health agencies have complained that a lack of coronavirus tests has hindered their abilities to identify patients, and tight restrictions imposed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on who could be tested have meant that some infected patients waited days before a diagnosis. The last restrictions were lifted Tuesday.

6ix, Goblin doesn't actually fit WishIMay, but you being you, you can't understand. But gobbling fat fucking idiot who garbles the coronavirus message does fit Trump perfectly. He been that way for 40 years, his incompetence and dishonesty written about in the business magazines, long before you were born. 6ix, I don't know you, but I know thousands of Trump lovers and the one trait most of them share is they stupidly sabotage their own lives then blame it on the government or the Democrats or the system. They are partially right: if the government was completely redesigned to make life easier for fools, ignoramuses, and Trump lovers, they would have it much easier. But neither Trump lovers nor Trump will use their brains to figure out how to quickly (8 years or less) and efficiently do that. The coronavirus response is just one more example of Trump's lifelong incompetence and deficiency as a manager. All those books Trump "wrote" about managing? Too bad his ghostwriters couldn't teach him anything since he won't read with understanding his books.

Trump is wrong, but he does not know it, so he can't feel it: It was a blizzard of dangerous, irresponsible misinformation, all delivered within a span of just over two minutes. Hannity responded not by challenging the president, but by quickly changing the topic.

On the same day that the World Health Organization (WHO) pegged the global death rate of the novel coronavirus at 3.4 percent — a figure higher than earlier estimates — President Donald Trump went on Sean Hannity’s Fox News show and insisted it’s actually not that bad.

Trump cited a “hunch” to make a case that the mortality rate is actually “a fraction of 1 percent.” He recklessly dismissed the WHO mortality rate as “really a false number,” used bogus numbers to compare the coronavirus to the much less deadly seasonal flu, and didn’t discourage people with Covid-19 from going to work.

3. Suggests it's fine for people w/ Covid-19 to go to work
4. Compares coronavirus to "the regular flu," indicating he doesn't get the difference

Trump’s soliloquy about an illness he misleadingly described as “this corona flu” began after Hannity asked him to respond to the WHO’s 3.4 percent death rate figure (which the organization said could vary by region). He was also asked about the possibility that the Summer Olympics scheduled for this summer in Tokyo could be delayed.

Here’s the entirety of Trump’s response.

I think the 3.4 percent [number] is really a false number. Now, this is just my hunch, but based on and lot of conversations with a lot of people that do this, because a lot of people will have this and it is very mild. They will get better very rapidly, they don’t even see a doctor or call doctor, you never hear about those people so you can’t put them down in the category, in overall population in terms of this corona flu, or virus. So you just can’t do that.

So if, you know, we have thousands or hundreds of thousands of people that get better, just by, you know, sitting around and even going to work, some of them go to work, but they get better and then, when you do have a death like you had in the state of Washington, like you had one in California, I believe you had one in New York, you know, all of a sudden it seems like 3 or 4 percent, which is a very high number, as opposed to a fraction of 1 percent.

But again, they don’t know about the easy cases because the easy cases don’t go to the hospital, they don’t report to doctors or the hospital in many cases so I think that [the WHO] number is very high. I think the number, personally, I would say the number is way under 1 percent.

Now, with the regular flu, we average from 27,000 to 77,000 deaths a year. Who would think that? I never knew that until six or eight weeks ago, I asked that question, I said, ‘How many people die of the flu?’ You know, you keep hearing about ‘flu shot, flu shot, take your flu shot,’ but how many people die of the flu? And they said, ‘sir, we lose between 27,000 and, you know, somewhere in the 70s’ — I think we went as high as 100,000 people died in 1990, if you can believe that, but a lot much people regardless. I think it averages about 36,000 people a year. So I said, ‘Wow, that is a percentage that is under 1 percent, very substantially.’ So it’d be interesting to see what difference is but again, a lot of people don’t report.

The president contradicts public health experts statements on death rate, contagion.

On Thursday morning, the president pushed back against media coverage of his interview, insisting that "I NEVER said people that are feeling sick should go to work."

"This is just more Fake News and disinformation put out by the Democrats, in particular MSDNC," he wrote on Twitter. "Comcast covers the CoronaVirus situation horribly, only looking to do harm to the incredible & successful effort being made!"

Trump is absolutely correct, if only seriously ill people are tested that raises the apparent case fatality rate, which could be much lower than 3%. The problem is, unless there are enuf test kits to do random testing to capture actual percent infected, we won't know the real number.

The media is once again misreporting his comments as badly as it misreported his telephone conversation with Zelinskiy.

China is taking pleasure in US mishandling of coronavirus

The US government’s management of the coronavirus outbreak hasn’t been great, to say the least.

Its president roundly denounces scientific facts. Americans are paying extortionate amounts of money for testing and quarantine. And there is concern over how transparent officials are in their communications to the public about the disease. Watching from afar, many in China are reacting to these developments with a mix of shock and pleasure.

They find it hard to believe that the world’s top superpower might be bungling its response to the virus, even after having had weeks to prepare for its possible arrival. Chinese officials discovered the first known case of Covid-19, the disease caused by coronavirus, in Wuhan, China in early January. The first case discovered in the US came weeks later, on Jan. 20, in Washington. The outbreak has only intensified across the country since then, spreading even more rapidly in recent days.

On Weibo, the Chinese social media network, users have read posts under the hashtag #coronavirus conditions in the US# more than 500 million times. In comments, many users expressed surprise that a country that holds itself up as the world’s foremost democracy would struggle to manage an epidemic like this, and that its health care system isn’t equipped to treat the growing number of cases.

“This is exactly why there are few infection cases in the US. People there don’t even want to go have the test [because of the cost],” wrote one user, responding to an article about an American man returning from Wuhan who received a large bill after US health officials placed him in quarantine. In China, testing and treatment for coronavirus is free.

Some Chinese even found the apparent role reversal amusing, referring to US president Donald Trump as “F1” (link in Chinese) on social media. The term is a reference to “F4,” a four-person Taiwanese boy band popular in the 2000s that’s now being used as a stand-in for the four officials in Hubei province widely deemed responsible for failing to contain Covid-19.

The slow US response—amid a backdrop of rapidly worsening tensions between the China and the US as they clash over trade, tech, and media—is also proving politically expedient for Chinese officials. Chinese newspapers have published opinion pieces criticizing the US for not doing enough to control the outbreak, including one in Shanghai’s Xinmin Evening News (link in Chinese) on March 2 that said, “As the only superpower in the world, which is more developed than China, the US is supposed to have better medical and disease-prevention conditions.”

How Trump is hurting his administration’s coronavirus response, explained by an expert.

President Donald Trump’s handling of the coronavirus outbreak in the United States has so far been a disaster.

He initially downplayed the severity of the outbreak at home, directly contradicting his top health officials. He’s displayed a stunning lack of knowledge about basic things like how vaccines work and how quickly a coronavirus vaccine could realistically be developed and distributed to Americans. And he’s publicly spread misinformation about how deadly the disease, officially known as Covid-19, is.

All of that is extremely counterproductive to effective crisis response, especially for dealing with something so complicated as the novel coronavirus. As of March 5, there are nearly 100,000 confirmed cases around the world, with more than 3,300 dead, mostly in China. In the US, there are more than 200 total cases — including at least 10 deaths in Washington state and one death in California.

Yet Trump insists the problem is under control and that he’s doing a fantastic job:
Quote:

Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump
Gallup just gave us the highest rating ever for the way we are handling the CoronaVirus situation. The April 2009-10 Swine Flu, where nearly 13,000 people died in the U.S., was poorly handled. Ask MSDNC & lightweight Washington failure @RonaldKlain, who the President was then?
2:34 PM - Mar 5, 2020

I called up Jeremy Konyndyk, an expert in outbreak preparedness at the Center for Global Development, to get a better sense of exactly how Trump’s actions have impacted the US response and how he could do better going forward.

As the director of the USAID’s Office of US Foreign Disaster Assistance during the Obama administration, Konyndyk managed the US’s humanitarian response to the 2014 Ebola outbreak in West Africa as well as other disasters including the 2015 Nepal earthquake and Typhoon Haiyan, which devastated the Philippines in 2013.

Konyndyk told me that although the public health officials involved in the administration’s response “are working as hard as they can” to deal with the outbreak, Trump’s failure to provide effective leadership means that “they’re not working as well as they can.”

“This isn’t a normal crisis,” Konyndyk said, “and atypical crises require real leadership from the top to solve.”

Our interview, lightly edited for length and clarity, is below.

Trump has to stop making it about himself and about the election, but I don’t know if he can do that. The irony here is that the more he overtly does that, the worse it looks for him politically. The smartest move for him would be to put the politics aside, take this seriously, and let the chips fall where they may. In other words, to show real leadership. We haven’t seen that yet, though I hope he’s capable of it.

No more tweets like this and work on the problem instead of golfing/campaigning 24/7:

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

Now that there's more testing going on, of course we're going to see more cases of COVID-19, and perhaps assign more causes of death to COVID-19 on autopsy.

A similar situation unfolded in Italy, which I think we all recognize as a serious epidemic there. 21 of 22 regions in Italy have reported cases. "The nation of 60 million people has now recorded over 3,000 cases ... the number of deaths from the new coronavirus in the Mediterranean country hit 107." (One day ago: https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/world/covid19-italy-close-schools
-march-government-contain-coronavirus-12502544
)

So I'm curious what would trigger recognition of a crisis in people here in the US. In how many states does does it need to found? How many total cases need to be recorded? How many deaths need to occur?

Italy, as of March 5, 2020.

The point is that the numbers started out small ... then grew, and grew, and grew ... with still no apparent end in sight. (Italy doesn't seem to have found the answer to containing the virus yet.)

If only half of Italians get the virus, and only 1% of those people die, that's 300,000 people. Are you comfortable writing off that many people as no big deal? If not, where do you draw the line?

I asked a simple question - at what point does he stop writing off dead people as no big deal? There's really no right or wrong answer, it's just a matter of opinion. I'm curious where people in general stop treating this as fake and start acknowledging it might be a problem. I think there's a line somewhere. Apparently Jack can't figure out what his own opinion is. Eh, if he's that scrambled, that's his problem, and I don't see a reason to try and accommodate it.

You're talking to the guy who's been saying for years that the population growth of the planet needs to be curbed, since it's the greatest contributing factor to climate change and to the scarcity of resources.

Assuming that further research isn't proof that it was designed to target specific DNA, I can't think of a more fair way for it to be done than the lottery of a virus.

If it's only 1% of half of the population of the planet it won't even be a drop in the bucket at the end of the day.

Something will come and restore balance at some point. I laugh at projections of the human population exploding to 15 Billion and beyond in the future. Hubris much?

It's either being blown out of proportion, or it isn't.

If it is, that's going to make Trump look stronger. If it's not, any mistakes that have been made are going to be pinned on him by people who were never going to vote Trump in the first place.

I know you're all secretly rooting for the virus to be terrible so you can do the latter. Just like Bill Maher came out and said he was hoping for a recession for the same reason.

SIX: Put Trump's election chances out of mind when considering this problem. The liberaloid media has been crucifying Trump since BEFORE he got into office for things he never did, for thing they MADE UP that he did. He could be Jesus Christ and cure cancer and end all wars and they would bitch and whine and cavil. We both know they would. (Right, SECOND?) This thing exists with or without Trump. Just consider your own risk and the risk of family members that you care about and find ways to reduce your -and their- risk.

YOUR risk seems exceptionally low, at the moment. You live an isolated existence in a sequestered part of an isolated state. But your parents ... they live a more socially-enaged life, right? Your disabled brother - he's taken care of by staff, right?

Just urge your family members to wash their hands and reduce their exposure (don't go anywhere where there are large crowds of people: no church, restaurants, sporting events etc. Don't stand in line at the DMV. Go grocery shopping in the AM. If you feel unwell, STAY HOME. Don't see a doctor for the heckuvit; dn't go to hospital unless you need hospital care.) And check up on your disabled brother and make sure they're at least following hand-washing protocol. I've been in touch with my relatives across the country, reminding them of the same things, even tho they live in less-traveled parts of the states. I don't nag ... just a couple of reminders. If they're smart, they'll take action. If not ... well, I tried.

I think Signy - and I - have a pretty good history of slamming the government and media for the shit they make up whole cloth, and the lies they tell.

But ya' gotta' distinguish between the outright fabrications versus the opportunist politicization of real events.

There's more than enough evidence that this is real, and not just some giant hoax being pulled by the m$m ... the BBC, The Guardian, al jazeera, RT, Xinhua ... The Lancet, NEJM, bioRxiv ... even the Trump administration ... et al.

How you personally choose to respond to it is completely your choice. But denying it completely is denying reality - and that's just cray-cray.

In your situation, I'd say it probably is (at the moment).

But if you lived in King County, WA you might feel differently! HA HA!

Many pages ago I said that this would emerge as clusters. So taking numbers from dense clusters and applying them evenly across the entire country as if they existed that way isn't an accurate way to look at it. BTW that's one of the reason I'm curious what it would take for people to think of this as a problem. What would the trigger(s) be? 100 cases and 2 deaths in your immediate area?

Anyway, Signy and I are both in SoCal, an area with roughly 10,000 arrivals from China every month, so I think our situations are different from yours. So naturally we think about this differently from you.
