Twitter Censorship: “Shadow Banning” Is Written Into The Platform’s New Terms

Twitter has written “shadow banning” aka, censorship, into their new terms. The platform will now intentionally “limit the visibility” of some users. Expect those who dissent from the official narrative to be the ones censored.

Critics have accused Twitter of censorship for quite some time now. But this time, it’s official. The company has admitted they will attempt to silence those critical of the ruling class. According to RT, the news terms will be taking effect in January of 2020. ...

“We may also remove or refuse to distribute any Content on the Services, limit distribution or visibility of any Content on the service, suspend or terminate users, and reclaim usernames without liability to you,” the new terms state.

That's how the 2nd internet gets created.

If anybody thinks there is a problem communicating with the other "side" today, imagine how much harder it's going to be when people make a conscious choice to use one or the other.

Nothing good comes from shutting down opinions that you don't like. They should be out in the open where they can be ridiculed and dismissed, not covered up where they can fester or find alternative means of making their way out.

I'd certainly put more value on knowing what the people I don't agree with are up to than those who I do. Far more.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

Evil and Good are subjective.

A lot of people who work for Google think that they're doing good.

I wonder what they're thinking. Google is a commercial enterprise whose goal is to make money ... and it's not drilling wells in Africa, or distributing chickens and goats in South America; it's not clearing plastic out of the oceans, or restoring blighted reefs ...

... where I worked I knew my efforts were improving people's health, and cleaning up the environment ... and my paycheck was going to benefit people I love and care about. I knew where the good was located.

I'm not sure I see what good there is in google. I'm having a hard time imagining it.

That's true.

The more I watch of "Why We Hate" the more I see it as part and parcel of tribalism.

Very few people get together in groups under the rubric 'we're moral lepers and even we don't approve of us'. Being in a tribe means your group is good, which means everything you do is righteous. And of course the 'not you' is evil so everything you do to them is justified. It's just all part of the tribal capacity in people.

They aren't any more evil than any other giant corporation - pay f*ckin' attention just once. Monsanto and some Big Pharma's are much worse.

Except maybe Facebook, they've become more evil. They sold user data without (hidden) consent to Russia - that sh*t is even borderline treasonous. Funny, I never hear you or the Harpies say anything bad about them - or did I just miss it?

And as for a "second Internet." lol, that's funny. Reminds me of how much people still don't get what The Internet is. It's like back when people thought AOL was "The Internet." Start your own streaming service, use any of the other ones, vote with your dollars and usage. It's called Capitalism - I'll throw in caveat emptor while I'm here as well.
Even more - not everyone uses Googletube to get out their video/streaming message. The people peddling the real nasty sh*t never go close to Youtube, so YT's change of service is pretty much moot. It does provide the whiny b*tches who use YouTube content to whine about, though, which equals more views for them, so Cha-Ching!

You want to know when you'll really have something to worry about? I mean serious time to march on the WH? It's when your uploads are throttled or edited or deleted by your Internet Access provider. That's when your actual Freedom of Speech is in jeopardy. Fortunately, we're not Russia yet. Give Trump another term though and check back in 5 years. If you can, lol.

For now I'll just chalk this thread up to another one of SIGGY's "agitation for the day" threads.

You missed it. And I was just getting around to them in THIS thread too, because nobody can post about the evil tech companies until they've posted about Google, Twitter, FB ... Apple, Microsoft, Amazon ... Spectum, AT&T, Verizon, Disney, Comcast...

Not true. There is a vast user base of posters on Youtube with everything from tool reviews (AvE) to politics (Duran, Tom Luongo, Greg Hunter, Paul Joseph Watson* and too many more to name), "how to" (too many to name), comedy and satire (Soph, Jimmy Dore, too many more to name) and "favorite music" who are neither "really nasty" nor do they fit into google's new "business model".

* Who has already been "unpersonned" by Google, for no reason than I can see except biting satire.

Oh jeez. Been there, done that. Thank you, Verizon!

What I'm waiting for is when some smart fella or lady in gubmint notices that these service providers have changed from being PLATFORMS to being PUBLISHERS .... with all of the liabilities (including defamation) attached.

Well, FCC? Gonna get on the stick soon?

No. We need to worry when censorship is happening at any level. It's happening now.

It's also happening to both sides. The Facebooks and Twitters and YouTubes made it a wedge issue by only targeting people on the right at first. This got the useful idiots on both sides fighting each other about it. Now they are free to censor anyone they want, because everybody is too busy arguing with each other to look at the real problem.

These companies are strictly money driven. Facebook selling data to Russia is just the tip of the iceberg. With companies in the media and tech consistently bending the knee to China and their rules regarding what can and cannot be seen because of how much money they stand to lose if they don't follow them, I'd be more concerned about China that I would be about Russia and big tech as a whole.

Take the movie Joker as an example. Even though it was banned from being screened in China, it made 20 times what it cost to produce. Had they neutered it to satisfy China's rules, it would have made 25 to 30 times what it cost.

If dumb 'ol Jack from Indiana is smart enough to notice that, you better believe that the multi-million dollar heads at WB took notice of it too and will plan accordingly in the future.

And BTW... What do you think all of your bitching about Russia meddling in the election is going to result in?

If that really did happen through online campaigns, the only way to stop it would be more control over the internet. The only two options for that are leaving that control in the hands of our own Government (bad news) or in the control of multi-national corporations that don't answer to the US Government or give two shits about the US Constitution (worse news).

The splintering of the p2p communication into silos / echo chambers is both unfortunate and dangerous.

That's one of the things I appreciated about this website: It attracted a wide variety of people (something about the show, I guess!) - unregenerate Confederates, bicoastal urban liberals, anarcho- and corporate-libertarians, true socialists, Rush Limbaugh dittoheads, ex-spooks and current military, regulators and business people, people just borderline crazy or maybe a little bit beyond ... not just from the USA but from other nations as well. People smart as whips ... MUCH smarter than me and smarter than most of the people still remaining. They were willing to argue their points intelligently and with passion and I learned a lot.

I really know of no equivalent today, not even here. Now this site just looks like a smaller version of CNN where people regularly get together to call the unpopular opinion "Russian troll" or other such nonsense.

Communication works much better where EVERYONE can meet, and it works best when people actually ... er ... communicate.

Can you say "fuck" on broadcast news? Yes, you can and it will get deleted. Censorship! OMG! Can you spray paint an elementary school with violent imagery and a tinfoil hat manifesto? Sure - and go to jail. Censorship! OMG! There are literally hundreds if not thousands of other such examples of "you can't say anything anywhere." You're missing perspective and context.

Plus, when it comes to privately held companies it's their rules mostly or Gov code of public conduct or other laws we as a nation have accepted. Sorry dude, move somewhere else if you're choking on too much freedom of expression.
