Beats the fuck outta me. Of course, she didn't have the Russian hockey team in her corner. Now that was a "smart" treasonous move on Donnie's part.

SIX, it's obvious that "S""G""G" drank the koolaid. His posts are full of emotion, but no thought, and trying to stimulate any thought processes there is a fruitless exercise.

SECONDRATE's posts are coming from a deeply troubled person who is so hate-filled that he considers it his "mission" to throw anti-GOP shit against the wall 24/7, even when it contradicts the OTHER shit that he just threw against the wall a monet ago; he's not listening (not even to himself) or thinking (not even about what he posts) either and he doesn't care how many goalposts he moves just as long as he's posting something negative.

REAVERBOT is just that ... a bot. He's been so thoroughly programmed that he can only operate in extremely narrow lines: "Nazi", "troll", "Russian".

TWITCHY is suffering from some sort of PTSD; she's reacting to childhood trauma and ... not really thinking there, either.

Sorry to say that there are a whole lot of people here who can't listen and think; coversation with them is impossible. Maybe they just need a "cooling off" period where nobody responds to their bullshit?

Signym, you and Trump are seriously stupid and your articulateness does not hide it. Trump says one thing that is not true; Signym follows. Trump says the opposite; Signym follows Trump there. Trump says too much about the Mueller Report that is false to even try knocking down all the nonsense from him and Signym, but on his equally ridiculous trade policy, he and Signym are much quieter, making it easy to show what a continuous liar he is:

Trump finally tacitly (he didn't tweet it) admitted that Canada and Mexico do NOT represent national security threats: The United States agreed Friday to lift its tariffs on industrial metals from Mexico and Canada. It was always ridiculous for Trump to think that tariffs would cause Americans to invest heavily in new capacity. It takes years to build a new steel mill, but only minutes for Trump to wipe out a tariff. Overnight, a new mill that made sense might suddenly not pencil out.

Only an idiot would believe Trump and base long-term capex spending on politically motivated tariff decisions that could change from one day to the next depending on what Fox & Friends happens to say one morning. Trump is just as big a liar about the Mueller Report as he was about Canada and Mexico being national security risks. But since Robert Mueller is not going to force Trump to start telling the truth, unlike Mexico, Canada, American purchasers of steel and aluminum, GOP Senators forcing Trump to tell the truth, Trump will keep lying about the Mueller report and Signym will keep following every lie.

Signym, am I misrepresenting what Trump tweeted yesterday? Trump on Friday morning accused the Obama-era FBI of “TREASON,” and called for people to serve “long jail sentences” as a result. What the FBI did in investigating Trump’s campaign in 2016 was not, however, treason. Not even close. Article III, Section 3 of the US Constitution defines treason in a very narrow manner — as pertaining to literal acts of war, or helping “enemies” with whom the US is currently at war. Here’s the text:

Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court. The Congress shall have Power to declare the Punishment of Treason, but no Attainder of Treason shall work Corruption of Blood, or Forfeiture except during the Life of the Person attainted.

Based on the Constitution, Trump’s accusations that his enemies committed treason are completely ludicrous and, I think, extraordinarily inappropriate, given that one of the purposes of the treason clause was to protect Americans discussing and criticizing their government. It was very clear — one of the reasons to limit the offense the way it was done in Article III was to prevent it from being a political tool where people in power (Trump or Barr or Lindsey Graham for three examples) use it to jail their political enemies. Remember, Trump wants “long jail sentences”:

What makes you think you've learned more than I will by the time I'm your age?

I hardly lived a pampered lifestyle growing up. It was quite a nightmare, actually. I didn't get to go to college and be coddled until I was 24 learning a bunch of bullshit you don't need either.

School of hard knocks, son. All my life. And the more I hang around these part the more I get to thinking that I'm the only one who reads a book on occasion too.

I don't know exactly where Hillary got that kind of money either. But the obvious point that I was making is that no matter where it came from, it wasn't good. She was deep in somebody's pocket. Multiple somebodies.

The argument that Trump was in Putin's pocket was a fallacy. You can't use that in retaliation this fact anymore.

Trump is our President. He's not going anywhere. And if the Dems can't get a decent candidate with a decent message, you'd best start preparing for a second term.

Joe Biden is not what you're looking for. Trump will destroy him. You should pass the memo to your party and the DNC.

The first instance of a sitting Republican in Congress calling for Trump's impeachment.

"Contrary to Barr's portrayal, Mueller's report reveals that President Trump engaged in specific actions and a pattern of behavior that meet the threshold for impeachment," Justin Amash, Third District of Michigan, said in a string of messages on Twitter.
https://twitter.com/justinamash/status/1129831615952236546

Justin Amash @justinamash tweeted the following on 12:30 PM - 18 May 2019 . . .

Here are my principal conclusions:
1. Attorney General Barr has deliberately misrepresented Mueller’s report.
2. President Trump has engaged in impeachable conduct.
3. Partisanship has eroded our system of checks and balances.
4. Few members of Congress have read the report.

I offer these conclusions only after having read Mueller’s redacted report carefully and completely, having read or watched pertinent statements and testimony, and having discussed this matter with my staff, who thoroughly reviewed materials and provided me with further analysis.

In comparing Barr’s principal conclusions, congressional testimony, and other statements to Mueller’s report, it is clear that Barr intended to mislead the public about Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s analysis and findings.

Barr’s misrepresentations are significant but often subtle, frequently taking the form of sleight-of-hand qualifications or logical fallacies, which he hopes people will not notice.

Contrary to Barr’s portrayal, Mueller’s report reveals that President Trump engaged in specific actions and a pattern of behavior that meet the threshold for impeachment.

In fact, Mueller’s report identifies multiple examples of conduct satisfying all the elements of obstruction of justice, and undoubtedly any person who is not the president of the United States would be indicted based on such evidence.

Impeachment, which is a special form of indictment, does not even require probable cause that a crime (e.g., obstruction of justice) has been committed; it simply requires a finding that an official has engaged in careless, abusive, corrupt, or otherwise dishonorable conduct.

While impeachment should be undertaken only in extraordinary circumstances, the risk we face in an environment of extreme partisanship is not that Congress will employ it as a remedy too often but rather that Congress will employ it so rarely that it cannot deter misconduct.

Our system of checks and balances relies on each branch’s jealously guarding its powers and upholding its duties under our Constitution. When loyalty to a political party or to an individual trumps loyalty to the Constitution, the Rule of Law — the foundation of liberty — crumbles.

We’ve witnessed members of Congress from both parties shift their views 180 degrees — on the importance of character, on the principles of obstruction of justice — depending on whether they’re discussing Bill Clinton or Donald Trump.

Few members of Congress even read Mueller’s report; their minds were made up based on partisan affiliation — and it showed, with representatives and senators from both parties issuing definitive statements on the 448-page report’s conclusions within just hours of its release.

America’s institutions depend on officials to uphold both the rules and spirit of our constitutional system even when to do so is personally inconvenient or yields a politically unfavorable outcome. Our Constitution is brilliant and awesome; it deserves a government to match it.

My ideal scenario is Trump has a fatal heart attack late at night and does not call 911. That way nobody would have to take a vote on whether Trump is too fat and stupid to be President. I'm not at all going to argue that our current President is a poster child for the Presidential Physical Fitness Awards. I'm also not going to argue that under that suit the 72 year old has a lot of muscle either.

I will point out that the BMI scale used widely today is problematic.

Here's a list of our heaviest presidents before Trump (factored with BMI):

Quote:

Naturally, this is a question spawned by the possibility of a Chris Christie run for the presidency. It turns out, not too many presidents have been rotund. In fact, only five presidents have been “obese” according to the antiquated BMI. Taft (42.3 on the BMI), Cleveland (34.6), McKinley (31.1), Taylor (30.2), and Teddy Roosevelt (30.2). Bill Clinton was overweight with a BMI of 28.3.

And here's a Newsweek article from February about Trump's recent climb into "Obese" territory:

https://www.newsweek.com/donald-trump-obesity-bmi-overweight-1332943

Here, is CDC page with charts on Obesity:

https://www.cdc.gov/obesity/adult/defining.html

Now... personally speaking, I don't have too many doubts that during the height of my drinking before I sobered up and got back in shape, that I was legitimately Obese when I had peaked out around 225lbs.

But back in my early to mid 20's when I spent anywhere from 35 to 50 hours per week at the gym and was a brick shithouse weighing 209lbs at only around 5'7", I was technically obese by the very fallible BMI metrics. At a 32.73 BMI, I was higher in the prime of my life after years of power lifting than McKinley, Taylor, Teddy Roosevelt and Bill Clinton. And also Trump, who recently hit 30.4.

Hell... even right now, at 165lbs and a six pack showing, I'm at 25.8, which is well within the "Overweight" category.

But my recent blood work back in Janurary came back all within the acceptable levels on all counts except for Glucose, which was 3 pts higher than the high number. After discussing my very small list of foods regularly consumed with my gluten free diet and limited source of income, I was told to just swap out my Honey Nut Cheerios with regular Cheerios and I'd be fine, which is what I've been doing for 4 months now.

Trump's doctor says he's fine. I don't necessarily believe that is true. Without even the need to delve into conspiracy theories, I'm sure one could come up with a myriad of reasons why someone would lie about this.

He's a big guy, sure, but he is 72.

Quote:

At 30.4, Trump’s BMI is just above the average for U.S. men over the age of 60 (29.2), according to a recent Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report using a 2015-16 survey data.

I'll just say that I've seen and I personally know people who are far fatter than he is.

None of the other things you've pinned your hopes and dreams on regarding Trump have born any fruit up to this point. I'm going to suggest you don't waste any time wishing on a star that Trump has a heart attack unless you get some sort of pleasure out of it.

In that case, maybe it is good for your health to dream.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

Trump's argument to block Don McGahn from testifying is nuts:

The White House is relying on a brand new memo from the Office of Legal Counsel claiming that, as an absolute matter of separation of powers and executive branch autonomy, Congress cannot force the President's senior advisers to testify.

Notably, the memo cites not a single court decision to support this novel proposition. The memo does begrudgingly note in passing that the only court opinion on the matter, a 2008 decision relating to testimony from former White House Counsel Harriet Miers, actually reaches the opposite conclusion: Senior advisers to the President are not immune from compelled congressional testimony.

There is also extensive precedent against the White House's position. Senior advisers to presidents of both parties have testified in Congress routinely -- and over many decades. The White House's new position would effectively put an end to that longstanding and not particularly controversial practice.

On Monday, Trump launched a long-shot effort to prevent the public from hearing live testimony from former White House Counsel Don McGahn -- the man who, perhaps more than any other, can bring to life Trump's most flagrant alleged acts of obstruction of justice.

According to Special Counsel Robert Mueller's report, in June 2017, Trump instructed McGahn to have then-Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein remove Special Counsel Robert Mueller. McGahn defied this order. Then, according to the report, in early 2018, Trump told McGahn to falsely deny media reports that Trump had tried to fire Mueller. McGahn, again, refused to comply.

This is the textbook definition of obstruction of justice, and McGahn's testimony threatens to expose this to millions of Americans across the country who haven't read the Mueller report.

If Congress is serious about hearing from McGahn, then it needs to skip the ceremonial contempt votes, take the issue to court and insist on an expedited ruling from a judge. (And if Monday's expedited ruling from a DC District Court judge, ordering Trump's accounting firm to turn over financial records to the House Oversight Committee is any indication, several judges may be willing to take swift action.)

www.cnn.com/2019/05/20/opinions/trump-block-don-mcgahn-reasoning-nuts-
honig/index.html

I looked at the memo. www.politico.com/f/?id=0000016a-d6b3-d399-afef-deb38ac30002

Congress will ask McGahn the same questions that Mueller asked McGahn. McGahn only needs to read aloud the same words he spoke to Mueller, except this time the words will be on TV. Trump has no legal argument to forbid words that are already in the public domain. Trump doesn't want McGahn to say the same words a second time, especially when those words will be broadcast to millions of undecided voters. A Congressman could read aloud McGahn's testimony in the Mueller Report, but that would not get the news coverage of McGahn reading his own words.

Trump used to manipulation stocks, until he was caught. Funny how he is doing it again.

Trump would secretly buy shares of stock in a company, publicly suggest he was planning to make a bid to buy the whole company, watch the share price rise in response to the Trump takeover rumors, and then sell his shares at a profit without actually doing anything.

He did this successfully with United Airlines in 1987, which led him to try it again with Hilton Hotels, Gillette, and Federated Department Stores in 1988. This was apparently a “fool me five times, shame on you” situation, however; investors caught on to the fact that Trump was running a scam, and it didn’t work anymore. Around the same time, the Securities and Exchange Commission hit Trump with a $750,000 fine related to a different stock transaction — one of several instances of Trump being caught breaking the rules only to be allowed to settle charges with a fine and no admission of guilt.

As president, Trump every once in a while throws global financial markets into a tizzy with unexpected tweets threatening tariffs and trade wars. It would be interesting to know how those market convulsions affect Trump’s finances, but of course we can’t tell because he’s keeping his returns secret.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

Yes. But more than that: Michael Cohen testified to the House Intelligence Committee. In his role as Trump’s fixer, one of Cohen’s jobs was to refuse to pay people the money they were owed.

“Some of the things that I did was reach out to individuals,” Cohen told the counsel for House Democrats, “whether it’s law firms or small businesses, and renegotiate contracts after the job was already done, or basically tell them that we just weren’t paying at all, or make them offers of, say, 20 cents on the dollar."

If 6ix skipped out without paying the bill, only to later offer 20 percent of what you owed, you’d be called a thief. Yet there is sworn testimony of Trump doing this.

Trump used his power to get away with things that normal people couldn’t do. And throughout his life, Trump has broken the rules and ripped off customers, workers, and investors because he can hire expensive lawyers and wait out paying his bills. He can just pay government fines. He’s got a leg up over most everyone else.

How Trump stole money

The basic Trump method, established as far back as his Atlantic City casino days, goes like this:

First, Trump contracts with someone to do some work for him.

Second, the work gets done.

Third, Trump does not pay for the work.

Fourth, the people Trump owes money threaten to sue him.

Fifth, Trump offers to pay a small fraction of the sum they originally agreed on.

The person Trump owes money to is now faced with an unattractive choice. He can accept 20 or 30 percent of what he is owed right now. Alternatively, he can hire a lawyer and fight out a lawsuit that might take months or years. Since Trump is rich and has lawyers on his staff, it’s nothing to Trump to fight an extended legal battle. And since Trump is the one not paying the bill, delay is inherently in his favor. The business owner, by contrast, could really use some money now rather than later. And he’d rather not have a bunch of legal bills and waste a ton of his own time in court.

The particular outcomes varied over time, but even the people who fought Trump most successfully ended up with unsatisfactory outcomes.

USA Today, for example, reported in 2016 that at one point, Trump owed a total of $69 million to 253 separate subcontractors on the Taj Mahal casino. One of those subcontractors was Marty Rosenberg of Atlantic Plate Glass Co., to whom Trump was $1.5 million in debt. That bill was so high that Rosenberg took on an informal role as a leader of a big group of contractors who sued Trump.

Trump’s hit upon a strategy of bilking people that works. If you’d described this to me in the abstract a few years ago, I’d have told you that it wouldn’t work — that nobody would do business with someone who acted this way. But evidently Trump is smarter than I am, because he figured out that you really can keep running the scam over and over again as long as you switch businesses and locations enough.

No worries. And all sarcasm aside, I just want to make sure that we're all on the same page here, at least knowing where each other is coming from.

Sure... Trump is overweight. But he's no John Candy. My long anecdotal post about weight and BMI was just illustrating what a flawed concept the entire BMI system is. There are so many different body types out there, and throughout one's life depending upon lifestyle choices, their body type might fall in the happy medium where the BMI works, or it may go to one of the extremes where the BMI tells you nothing about somebody.

On the other hand, hydrostatic testing would paint a nearly perfect picture of somebody's lean muscle vs fat content using water displacement.

Good luck getting Trump to strip down to his skivvies to get weighed in a pool though. Although, given his trollish nature, I could actually see him doing this one day. Certainly a better chance of this than ever seeing his taxes.

No, 6ix, you are full of shit. Soros was actually talking to the Bank of England, telling them to not do what they intended. To drive home how serious he was while he was giving this advice, he bet his billions against the Bank of England and Soros told them what he was doing. Those fucking morons still didn't listen -- they believed that they would bankrupt Soros. They lost money to Soros and to all the other currency traders who made more than Soros on Black Wednesday, Sept 16, 1992.

During the post-election transition period, Trump was allowed to settle a lawsuit about defrauding customers of his fake university (interestingly, the fact that the university was fake was not, itself, actionable fraud at all) rather than truly face the music.

One of Trump’s real insights in life was to see this bug in the system. When it comes to these kinds of crimes, it’s typically in government officials’ interest to agree to a settlement that gives them positive headlines and raises some cash while letting them move on to the next investigation.

But while these decisions can make sense individually, they let serial offenders repeat their crimes over and over again — defrauding both individuals and the federal government. And while Trump is in some ways an extreme case, he’s in other ways a typical one. The nature of America’s adversarial legal system is that your ability to prevail in court is closely linked to your ability to hire expensive lawyers, meaning that in both civil conflicts with middle-class people and criminal conflicts with the federal government, the rich have a huge leg up.

'Extremely stable genius': Trump defends his mental fitness

6ix, you just don't want to admit you voted for an "extremely stable genius". If he wasn't nuts, he wouldn't be bragging about how sane he is.

I love the part where Trump says he's not crazy, it's Nancy. She's crazy, not me! Trump is so fucked up in the head.

Trump is getting more and more stable with each passing month:

"I am a stable genius" (January 26, 2018)

'Extremely stable genius': Trump defends his mental fitness
www.politico.com/story/2019/05/23/trump-stable-genius-1342655

6ix, you just don't want to admit you voted for an "extremely stable genius". If he wasn't nuts, he wouldn't be bragging about how sane he is.

I love the part where Trump says he's not crazy, it's Nancy. She's crazy, not me! Trump is so fucked up in the head.

Trump is getting more and more stable with each passing month:

"I am a stable genius" (January 26, 2018)

"I'm a very stable genius." (July 12, 2018)

"I'm an extremely stable genius." (May 23, 2019)

New indictment says Manafort tried to sell a Trump cabinet job for millions in bribe money

Stephen Calk allegedly tried to pull Manafort's financial strings in order to join the White House. Calk now faces a maximum of 30 years in prison. Only Republicans will mourn his passing into jail, but only if you shove their faces in it with all your might, then stomp on their heads with boots. Otherwise, they will be blissfully unaware.

A bombshell indictment released Thursday from the Justice Department detailed how banker Stephen Calk tried to use his financial ties to former Trump campaign chair Paul Manafort to bribe his way into the Trump administration.

According to the indictment, Calk has been charged with “financial institution bribery” for trying to use his position as the head of The Federal Savings Bank of Chicago, which issued “millions of dollars in high-risk loans” to Manafort, to obtain “a senior position” for himself within the Trump administration.

If you want to read more about the consequences of the Mueller investigation, the actual indictment is here: https://thinkprogress.org/new-indictment-says-manaforts-banker-tried-t

In due time folks. Trump lost three court cases in his attempt to block the investigation into him this week. That was fast. It's still a win win if he dies of a thousand cuts heading into the next election.

Then the trials begin. tick tock...

LOLing our way to the gulag:
Trump Implied James Comey Should Be Executed for Treason and Everyone Was Like, “Ha Ha, Classic Trump”

On Thursday in the Oval Office, an NBC reporter noted to Trump that treason is punishable by death and then asked him who he felt, specifically, had committed treason in the course of the Russia investigation. The president responded by naming four FBI officials — former director James Comey, former deputy director Andrew McCabe, and former agents Peter Strzok and Lisa Page — who’d been involved in the case.

And that was it! Twitter was briefly incredulous, a few articles were posted, but for the most part it was not considered really newsworthy that the POTUS had casually tossed out the idea of executing the FBI’s previous leadership team.

Trump says the investigation into his campaign’s connections to Russia, the one that was launched by the FBI and later carried out by Robert Mueller’s special counsel’s office, was illegitimate. To put his objections as coherently as possible, he says the inquiry was not properly “predicated” — that it was created, without an adequate basis of evidence, in order to damage him politically. If you read the Mueller report, you can see that this is not true — that there were all sorts of suspicious interactions between Russians and Trump campaign figures happening at the same time that Russia was carrying out an intelligence operation against his opponent — but it’s what Trump says. He claims the inquiry was unprecedented in American history (dubious — Spiro Agnew was successfully investigated for bribery-related tax evasion while he was vice president) and that it was treasonous (also no — treason is waging war against the U.S. or helping one of its enemies.)

6ix and the public at large are accustomed to the president suggesting things that are clearly inappropriate or illegal, all the time, which get written off as hyperbole, except he often follows through on them, just as he’s reportedly about to follow through on his frequent rhetorical celebration of war crimes by pardoning a group of convicted and accused war criminals.

Don’t kill me for saying this (hahahahaha), but I feel like this is a sad state of affairs.

https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2019/05/trump-war-crime-pardons-ca
mpaign-promises.html

The evidence suggests he believes that the U.S. should intentionally engage in war crimes. During the 2016 campaign, for example, Trump said that:

• The U.S. should “torture” terrorism suspects via techniques including waterboarding and other practices “a hell of a lot worse than waterboarding.”

• The U.S. should execute Muslim prisoners of war using bullets dipped in pigs’ blood.

• The U.S. should have seized Iraq’s oil reserves after conquering the country.

• The U.S. should target and kill the family members of suspected terrorists.

All you really have to do to figure out how the president wants U.S. service members to behave is to listen to the words that come out of his mouth. LOL, 6ix.

In 1974, I was puzzled by why Nixon's disapproval rating when he resigned did not increase to 100%, instead staying at Trump's present day level. Since then I have learned that many Americans never did understand what was wrong with Nixon. I have also learned that many cannot understand what "wrong" means in real life, which sure as hell explains a lot about America.
