Centered near Anchorage.

Reportedly collapsed, cracked apart roads and bridges.

There was a 9.2 in 1964.

Not sure if this effected Canada.

Sarah Palin reported that her house did not remain intact.

No deaths reported, largely due to Building Codes being adhered to.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

Thanks for posting this.

Thanks for the posting. Heard about it earlier and just went and read about it.

Nothing has been reported on this quake affecting Northern BC or even Haida Gwaii.

I don't know how far Anchorage/Wasilla is from the Canada Border. Do you?

More than 500 Aftershocks so far, including 11 of magnitude 4.5 or higher.

I did see a report that it was 7.2 magnitude yesterday.

SIGNYM

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

I just can't imagine what that must have been like. Or, maybe I CAN imagine what that was like and it's just too horrible. I guess the only saving grace is that it isn't in the complete dead of winter. I hope Alaskans have their own individual heat and water supplies because the disruption to infrastructure includes water, gas, and electrical lines.

I wonder if we've seen an increase in major earthquakes relevant to that that 32-year earthquake cycle that people were posting about. The year is almost done .... does that mean those of us in earthquake-land are a little out of the woods, so to speak? Less chance of rocking and rolling up and down the west coast and around the "ring of fire"?

I went and looked up the distance, driving it is 499miles between Anchorage and Whitehorse which is in the Yukon. So Haida Gwaii those islands are even farther.

I am hazarding because the quake and the aftershocks are happening inland this is why nothing has been noted in Northern BC or Canada.

1. A tsunami warning had been issued, but then cancelled.

2. Man, I keep forgetting the scale on those lame maps (most Americans are far worse about understanding the scale). Texas is the 2nd largest U.S. State, and if Alaska was cut in half, Texas would become the 3rd largest. Alaska's distance between farthest points is greater than the width of our continent from Pacific at San Diego to Atlantic at the Port in Georgia. This might be because our National maps make Alaska look the same size as Hawaii, about as big as Arizona.

Thanks for letting us know Canada was not impacted. I couldn't find online info about it.

I wonder if this will be in an episode of Ice Road Truckers. It might actually make that show interesting to watch for once.

Think I heard about the tsunami warning.

I was looking at Canadian maps.

No problem JSF.
