Employers who knowingly hire people who are in the country illegally are not facing meaningful consequences. ICE says it is enforcing the law, but they are bullshitting you. One hundred raids on 7-Elevens, when there are 50 states, is not the same as meaningfully enforcing the law. It is closer to pretending to enforce. I noticed that jobs which were $10/hr about 22 months ago are now about $14. That seems a steep curve.

So you never did explain why you would get paid more for the same job, just "because I read something once that said I would. Kinda." Where does this money suddenly come from to pay you your new wage? Unless it's legally mandated in your specific situation it ain't happening, and *if* that were to happen then the owners would raise the price of their products/services to pay for it like I just said.

Theories look great in print and may wow some 20 somethings, but textbooks aren't real life. I have enough real life econ knowledge to know that the only theory you can count on is Greed. You aren't getting paid more just because some professor put that in his book.

What I'm not doing is making a monthly car payment and in-turn paying full coverage on my car. I bought it with cash for $2,000 ten years ago and with only $600 I've got it running almost perfect again, including 4 new tires and a windshield installed. Yearly car insurance payments are only barely over $300 per year.

What I'm also not doing is paying rent or a mortgage. That's easily $800 to $1,200 per month I'm not paying that you are.

Yep. I'm stacking boxes. 9 hour shifts of busting my hump and enjoying a body I haven't had since my mid 20's. Living a stress free life where for every 6 days I work I get 8 off to do whatever I want to. In the mean time I'm on course to have saved $500 every month this year.

How's your shitty 2 day weekends working out for you?

It must be awesome working so many hours at that great job you have to just turn around and pay somebody exorbitant interest rates for all the shit you bought that you didn't need.

I have not seen a Progress Map with GPS locations, which I've expected to see. Can't be that hard, all of the news crews have GPS in their phones. They could just put tracking devices on the Soros busses that the caravan is using.

I would have loved reading that book back in my mid 20's. I still might. I think she might have a better grasp on how to make the most out of your free time after you've gotten the money issues under control.

Payroll hours recently have been cut across the board at my work. Before my last break, everything seemed to be really good and I thought that things might work out now with this new manager. It was starting to run like a well oiled machine.

I came back from break and everything had changed. They were calling people and telling them to stay home a few of their scheduled nights (not me... I'm far too valuable). 2 of our forklifts broke down and still haven't been fixed 10 to 12 days later. My Team Lead stepped down because he was sick of half of his job being shitty emails to sift through and taking abuse from day shift management.

We knew this was going to be a rough week because too many important people (ie: can drive a forklift) were given their vacation all at the same time because there were too many cooks in the kitchen before my new manager came in. That is why my last break was a full 10 days and my next one will only be 6, because I told him it was no problem for me to work a few extra days to help cover.

But then all this other stuff happens and the shit really hits the fan. They're all up my manager's ass. He's in the middle of an 11 day stretch, and he's had to work late every night. Then he'll get his 2 days off, but since we don't have a team lead currently they're telling him that he's going to have to work another 10 days straight after that.

He's stressed as shit right now. The fact that we don't have a team lead right now is THEIR fault and THEIR problem. My manager should not have to be shouldering that burden.


All I can do is try to be as supportive as I can. Shit rolls downhill... Some of my fellow employees that don't know the ins and outs of the operation complain about him and I just tell them to give it a little time because the management is all up his ass right now and once everybody's back from vacation that will be a big relief. Hopefully we can start getting back on track after that.

I told him last night just to try to relax and chill out a bit. We're not doing bad at all given the fact that we've got an arm tied behind our backs right now. I let him know last night I was going to be super bummed out if I came back next week and he wasn't there anymore. I'm going to let him know that again tonight.

He actually seemed a lot less stressed last night and letting this roll off of his back. I don't know if my support has anything to do with that. It's more likely he's just pretty exhausted and he's coming to terms with the fact that things aren't just going to go the way that he wants them to go, especially when there are temporary payroll cuts.

Shit... I can't even imagine what it would be like to be balancing all of that with a wife and two kids. They probably have a ton of debt to, on top of trying to save for college.


And it really turns out that it's a shame that I agreed to move my break up a few days to cover later in this week, at least speaking in the long term. I don't think my Team Lead would have quit his job if I were there. We get along great and he's the guy who said a few month's back "I'm so happy to see you I could hug you". I let him bounce a lot of shit off of me cause I know how good it can be to just have somebody to talk about bullshit like this with. But I wasn't there last weekend, which typically is our understaffed nights, and I wasn't there to try to keep his head on straight.

Oh well... The wheel in the sky keeps on turning.

Contractors who pay immigrants under the table to deliberately skirt immigration and employment laws are engaged in “misclassification” or “payroll fraud.” It involves employers pretending their workers are “independent subcontractors” when in reality they are employees who should be compensated accordingly and given benefits such as accident insurance and a retirement plan.

It’s been going on for decades and is the way most undocumented workers are paid. It’s cheating plain and simple. This misclassification not only allows those bosses to avoid immigration laws but also gives them a competitive advantage because their overall costs are at least 25 percent lower than firms following the law.

It's unclear who's paying for the buses or when more would be coming (but Jenkins believes more are on their way). However, the motivation behind the campaign should be obvious to anyone who has been paying attention since the first caravan formed. Getting the migrants to the border, where Trump's beefed-up border presence is waiting, is clearly a key component of the Democrats' election strategy (and has taken on increased importance since the Democrats attempts to make the vote about health care have largely foundered). Their logic probably looks something like this. Step 1. Get the migrants to the border in the days before the vote. Step 2. Replay the outrage blitz that followed Trump's order to separate migrant children from their families earlier this year. Step 3. Convince moderates that they would be committing an inhumane act by supporting Republicans. Step 4. (hopefully) victory.

That was already addressed. Please re-read previous post.

Now, I'm not sure which party this "caravan" serves best. The Dem base is about as fired up as it can be; but the Repub base - which might not be as "fired up" as Dems - might actually be activated by this issue.

The most effect would be on that very large group that isn't registered with either Dems or Repubs. They're called "independents" but because here in CA we have an "Independent" party we call them "no party preference". Generally speaking, that middle group leans right rather than left, but with effective advertising/ propaganda the caravan issue MIGHT be turned in favor of Dems.

Just a couple of comments: GSTRING, you're all spittle-y about Dems not being for "open borders". For the sake or argument, let me grant that Dems are, in theory, for border control. However, if they're against ENFORCING border control and immigration laws ... they don't want to "apprehend" illegal immigrants, they don't want to differentiate between illegal immigrants and citizens for government benefits, they don't believe in deporting illegal immigrants, and they want to "abolish ICE" ... then, in effect, they ARE for "open borders".

It's a little like SECOND's blast of "brilliance" on using our tax laws to apprehend employers who illegally categorize employees as "contractors". Or using our laws - which demand valid Social Security numbers - for each employee. Yes, our laws could be improved, but the biggest problem with our immigration laws is lack of enforcement.

I think it's interesting that the same issue that is driving Merkel out of power and causing the EU to fray ... and possibly to even break up ... is the same issue that's driving a wedge between Democrats and Republicans, and that is IMMIGRATION. A recent study has "upped" the estimate of illegal immigrants in the USA from 12 to 22 million. That is the level which is causing significant social and economic disruption in European nations, there's no reason to think that it isn't a problem here too. Like the EU, some states here are far more affected than others.

The author of the Birthright Citizenship Clause, Sen Jacob M Howard made perfectly clear that Anchor Babies were not inclusive under the Amendment.

After applying correctly for almost 100 years, it wasn't until Teddly Kennedy's plan to infiltrate more Illegal Democrat Voters in the late 60s that the application was corrupted.

Adding weight to Trump's argument, birthright citizenship wasn't applied to the children of immigrants until the 1960s...

So, the USA government was "mis-interpreting" the 14th Amendment for about a hundred years???

Now, I'm not sure which party this "caravan" serves best. The Dem base is about as fired up as it can be; but the Repub base - which might not be as "fired up" as Dems - might actually be activated by this issue.

The most effect would be on that very large group that isn't registered with either Dems or Repubs. They're called "independents" but because here in CA we have an "Independent" party we call them "no party preference". Generally speaking, that middle group leans right rather than left, but with effective advertising/ propaganda the caravan issue MIGHT be turned in favor of Dems.

Just a couple of comments: GSTRING, you're all spittle-y about Dems not being for "open borders". For the sake or argument, let me grant that Dems are, in theory, for border control. However, if they're against ENFORCING border control and immigration laws ... they don't want to "apprehend" illegal immigrants, they don't want to differentiate between illegal immigrants and citizens for government benefits, they don't believe in deporting illegal immigrants, and they want to "abolish ICE" ... then, in effect, they ARE for "open borders".

It's a little like SECOND's blast of "brilliance" on using our tax laws to apprehend employers who illegally categorize employees as "contractors". Or using our laws - which demand valid Social Security numbers - for each employee. Yes, our laws could be improved, but the biggest problem with our immigration laws is lack of enforcement.

I think it's interesting that the same issue that is driving Merkel out of power and causing the EU to fray ... and possibly to even break up ... is the same issue that's driving a wedge between Democrats and Republicans, and that is IMMIGRATION. A recent study has "upped" the estimate of illegal immigrants in the USA from 12 to 22 million. That is the level which is causing significant social and economic disruption in European nations, there's no reason to think that it isn't a problem here too. Like the EU, some states here are far more affected than others.

Do you find it curious that second seems to have arrived at plans which will have no apparent effect on Vicious Violent Criminal Illegal Aliens who have no interest in gainful employment, other than to increase Violent Crimes?
It would only focus on those developing income through work, labor, cash sales, even if the Employer is not abiding Law.
Without the rampant Criminal activity from Illegal Aliens, the issue might fall below the Radar of most voters.

Signym, what happens after the election is the test of whether or not Trump is pandering to your fears of illegal aliens in order to get your vote. If Trump does not write that executive order overturning birthright citizenship, then he is a complete pandering fraud. If he does not deport millions of illegal aliens, he is a complete fraud. If he does not shutdown the government to get funding for his Texas/Mexico Wall, he is a complete fraud. Trump has to stop talking and start doing these three things or else he was always pandering to your fears of illegal aliens. Once the election is over, Trump has no more excuses. He must do these things. I expect he will do none of them, but he will keep talking. (And certainly blaming the Democrats for why he is doing nothing. And he will be bragging about himself.
