All of my family that has healthcare is now paying over 400% more for it than they were before Obamacare came out, and their deductibles are outrageous.

It's not that nobody cares, it's that nobody want's to spend their entire paycheck for insurance while other people don't pay anything.

And maybe you don't know that the American government has steadfastly refused to take the step that 124 other states have of ratifying the Rome Statute and thus becoming a member of the International Criminal Court. The ICC’s mandate to investigate war crimes has thus been hampered by the unwillingness of the world’s sole superpower to commit to the organization. Do American voters give a damn? Do they push their Congressman to join? They do not, which strongly indicates the citizens are massive wrong. The same about their Troops, oh, the saintly Troops keeping America free. People that leak what atrocities the Troops did overseas get thrown in jail. The average American approves of the jailing. The atrocity has been leaked but the average American has no problem. It is as if throwing the leaker in jail discredited the proof of the atrocity.

Recent statements from the Trump administration suggest that the United States is now preparing to go to war against the ICC itself, motivated largely by an effort to silence investigations into alleged American war crimes committed in Afghanistan. If there wasn't something wrong with the way the majority of Americans think, they would be mad as hell at their Troops. I know the excuse: we Americans don't know. But you got to be pretty stupid not to know. Or the other excuse: it is the Media's fault, not an Americans fault. But again you got to be pretty stupid to believe war is the solution to every problem. Or you have to have some awfully warped values.

I am going with the idea the average American has warped values and acts awfully stupid. It explains why the majority can not coalesce around one sensible solution on any subject: be it war, the minimum wage, the tax code, anything. Instead we get millions of contradictory opinions, which allows your Congressman to do nothing, because there is no majority for anything.

How about this for a working hypothesis: You and your relatives get screwed over because you are lazy morons and cowards? It fits the facts. I haven't followed any of your blood around all day to see their decisions, but if they are anything like you, they are constantly being cheated or swindled and they are not aggressive enough to stop it. Or even smart enough to understand what is happening. They are certain they are poor and it couldn't be their fault! It must be the Federal Government! If they were smarter, they would look for the fault somewhere within their state or with their employer or within themselves. And then DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT, you fucking idiot. Don't go watch TV to take your mind off of the problem. Come up with a solution you can implement today. The bigger and more violent, the better. Don't expect voting once every two years to make a difference. WTF does that have to do with anything???

The ICC was founded in 1998, and Clinton, Bush, Obama, and Trump have ALL declined the oppty to join!

Now, we could imagine that ONE reason why Americans know little about this issue is because it's not in the press. Gee, why do you suppose that is, SECOND?

I don't watch TV. Or movies. I've had plenty to say about that in other threads, so that's not bullshit.

You're pretty funny too. You just said that the reason that Obamacare will fail is because people are selfish and don't give a shit about those less fortunate than them. Your reply to me is that my family and I (and the rest of the middle class) are fucking idiots, and your answer is advocating violence on the part of the 99% again?

I'd counter that with the reason that we all don't have reasonably affordable healthcare is because the 1% dosen't give a shit about anybody but themselves.

Quit your virtue signalling bullshit. Especially when you constantly undermine it with posts like the one I just quoted.

Trump wanted to print money to repay the national debt. That’s bananas.

Bob Woodward's book, ‘Fear’, reports the following exchange occurred between Trump and Gary Cohn, the former director of the National Economic Council, while discussing the national debt:

Trump: “Just run the presses—print money.”

Cohn: “You don’t get to do it that way. We have huge deficits and they matter. The government doesn’t keep a balance sheet like that.”

Cohn, writes Woodward, was “astounded at Trump’s lack of basic understanding.” The president has accused Woodward of fabricating quotes. But while Cohn has said the book “does not accurately portray” his experience of the White House, he hasn’t denied that any specific exchanges took place, as Axios notes.

So why is Trump’s suggestion a big deal? Throughout his 2016 presidential campaign, Trump vowed to slash US national debt and balance the federal budget. Not only has he failed to do so—his exchange with Cohn suggests he doesn’t even understand how national debt works.

Trump proposes to print his way out of debt, directly fund government spending with money the government creates.

It’s certainly possible to do this — in theory, at least. Since the global breakdown of the gold standard in the 1970s, there’s nothing backing most currencies anymore — which means there’s no clear limit on how much money governments can issue. So, sure, if a country wants to spend more than it earns, its treasury could indeed fire up the mints and crank out crisp new bills to pay off those old debts (or, more accurately, it could create the cash electronically). The US could, say, pay wages for federal workers or pay Social Security and Medicare in a few keystrokes — by simply adding a credit to those accounts.

Why that would cause a financial crisis can be found at https://qz.com/1387565/

If you want to know what can happen in a financial crisis not caused by printing money, there is this article: www.msn.com/en-us/money/markets/why-bushs-quiet-role-in-the-financial-
crisis-deserves-attention-now/ar-BBNewQj?ocid=spartanntp

When the next crisis rolls around, we will have Trump. He might be stubbornly slow to react because crisis management often requires doing the opposite of what the public demands.

Nothing at all to do with the quote of mine, once again, but pretty funny. I haven't heard the word "bananas" used like that in a very long time.

They matter? The government doesn't keep a balance sheet like that?

Most people in this country don't even understand how their credit card debt works.

In theory no. But we've practiced it for quite a long time now. This is what happens.

Both. There are smart evil people, but Trump is not smart. He's just another rich boy with no sense of anything outside his own ego.

He'd have carried on with his lame life, but he had enough ego to run for president, egged on by Putin.

Trump will crash and burn. Whatever happens makes Putin stronger. He is the most powerful person in the world today. And he's a ruthless tyrant.

Not a good point. Call the bullshit wherever you see it. Don't let anybody get away with it.

Anon sources = no sources.

This should be a steadfast rule to anybody who actually cares about what is going on, no matter what side it is coming from.

I probably call the President out on his bullshit just as much as anybody here does. The only difference between me and the far Leftists on the board is that I have numbers and statistics to back up my refutations of Trump blowing himself over the Great Economy and Great Job Markets that still don't exist under his watch.

Dude was so full of promise, but just like all the rest of them it seems that he was just full of shit.

I'm still happy that we don't have a Clinton in office though.

Woodward still can't seem to come up the the concept of 'unnamed' as opposed to 'anonymous'. For a person who lives by the use of words, he's mentally slipped.

btw

unnamed 'sources' are free to make up crap, knowing that they'll never have to answer for it ... for example, the supposed Steele dossier. Not only do we not know the sources' identities, we can't verify that there even were any ... as opposed to things being made up whole cloth.

Lack of 'sources', lack of evidence - that's been the MO ever since we were asked to trust the government that Iraq had WMDs, around "Baghdad and east, west, south and north, somewhat". (Wow, do you think he covered all the bases?) Not waiting for evidence - that's been the MO ever since dubya invaded Iraq just as Hans Blix's team was about to certify Iraq was in compliance with the UN mandates.

imo, Woodward is a hack, looking to jump on the anti-Trump tell-all gravy train, who's also politically motivated and mentally addled. (Come on Woodward - what's the difference between anonymous and unnamed? Surely you feel there is one!)

For all the bitching and whining about how this country is doomed under Trump, you'd think we'd find at least one or two legitimate heroes who would do that. Like Nike said about Kapernick "Believe in Something. Even if it means sacrificing everything."

How shall I describe the book? - a noisy empty barrel? a fart in an empty pair of pants? a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury signifying nothing?

So many choices ...

The best choice is Trump's own words:
“Real power is — I don’t even want to use the word — fear.”
– Presidential candidate Donald J. Trump in an interview with Bob Woodward and Robert Costa on March 31, 2016, at the Old Post Office Pavilion, Trump International Hotel, Washington, D.C.

Note to Readers of Fear
Interviews for this book were conducted under the journalist ground rule of “deep background.” This means that all the information could be used but I would not say who provided it. The book is drawn from hundreds of hours of interviews with firsthand participants and witnesses to these events. Nearly all allowed me to tape-record our interviews so the story could be told with more precision. When I have attributed exact quotations, thoughts or conclusions to the participants, that information comes from the person, a colleague with direct knowledge, or from meeting notes, personal diaries, files and government or personal documents.
President Trump declined to be interviewed for this book.

I am not being ironic while writing that 1kiki would like the end of the book, where Trump's lawyer, after resigning, is convinced that Mueller does not have a case against Trump:
Quote:

Dowd remained convinced that Mueller never had a Russian case or an obstruction case. He was looking for the perjury trap. And in a brutally honest self-evaluation, he believed that Mueller had played him, and the president, for suckers in order to get their cooperation on witnesses and documents.

Dowd was disappointed in Mueller, pulling such a sleight of hand.

After 47 years, Dowd knew the game, knew prosecutors. They built cases. With all the testimony and documents, Mueller could string together something that would look bad. Maybe they had something new and damning as he now more than half-suspected. Maybe some witness like Flynn had changed his testimony. Things like that happened and that could change the ball game dramatically. Former top aide comes clean, admits to lying, turns on the president. Dowd didn’t think so but he had to worry and consider the possibility.

Some things were clear and many were not in such a complex, tangled investigation. There was no perfect X-ray, no tapes, no engineer’s drawing. Dowd believed that the president had not colluded with Russia or obstructed justice.

But in the man and his presidency Dowd had seen the tragic flaw. In the political back-and-forth, the evasions, the denials, the tweeting, the obscuring, crying “Fake News,” the indignation, Trump had one overriding problem that Dowd knew but could not bring himself to say to the president: “You’re a fucking liar.”

Trump's lawyer, Dowd, is only thinking about Trump. But Mueller's investigation was not all about Trump. The appointment of a special counsel was to investigate Russian interference with the 2016 presidential election and related matters, including any links and/or coordination between the Russian government and individuals associated with the campaign of President Donald Trump.
https://assets.documentcloud.org/documents/3726381/Robert-Mueller-Spec
ial-Counsel-Russia.pdf

I, too, believe the same as Trump's lawyer that Mueller does not have a case to make that Trump coordinated with Russia. But Trump is not the only person who could have coordinated on that campaign. And if Mueller digs into Trump's connections with Russian gangsters laundering their money by purchasing property from Trump, Mueller might stumble upon proof of Trump's tax evasions. Unfortunately for Trump, a tax case is covered by the instructions to the special counsel:
Quote:

(c) If the Special Counsel believes it is necessary and appropriate, the Special Counsel is authorized to prosecute federal crimes arising from the investigation of these matters.

2. understand that people have sacrificed a great deal to call Trump out.
3. You don't call Trump out as much as anybody here.
4. You have no idea what Trump's connections to Russia are, or what Mueller knows.

Certain predictions can be made without knowing how things turn out. We don't know that 1kiki will be alive and posting in January, but it is a pretty solid prediction that you will be defending Trump next year and the year after when he's running for President. And it's pretty solid that no Democrat will be up to your high standards for President in 2020, but Trump will!

No, we realize it's like going to the movies. First you may see the coming attractions. That's what we are witnessing now. The movie starts when Mueller submits his findings.

Your problem is that due to all the revelations about Trump and his cronies you are stuck with your last line of defense, no collusion. Well we now know there was but it isn't official yet. You'll see that when the movie starts.

From Chapter 27 (neither Trump nor Bannon think with heads, but with their dicks):
Quote:

Just before 10 a.m. on July 20, a stifling, cloudless summer Thursday six months into his presidency, Donald Trump crossed the Potomac River to the Pentagon.
The Tank had its appeal. Trump loved the room. Sometimes known as the Gold Room for its carpet and curtains, it is ornate and solemn, essentially a private, high-security retreat reflecting decades of history.
Mattis and Cohn organized the presentations as part history lesson and part geostrategic showdown. It was also a belated effort to address the looming question: How does this administration establish its policy priorities and stick to them?
McMaster did not attend because he had a family obligation.
Maps depicting American commitments around the world—military deployments, troops, nuclear weapons, diplomatic posts, ports, intelligence assets, treaties and even trade deals—filled two large wall screens, telling the story of the United States in the world. Even countries where the U.S. had ports and flyover rights were shown, as were key radar and other surveillance installations.
“The great gift of the greatest generation to us,” Mattis opened, “is the rules-based, international democratic order.” This global architecture brought security, stability and prosperity.
Bannon sat off to the side, a backbencher with a line of sight to the president. He knew this globalist worldview too well. He viewed it as a kind of fetish. His own obsession was still America First.
This is going to be fun, Bannon thought, as Mattis made the case that the organizing principles of the past were still workable and necessary.
There it was—the beating heart of the problem, Bannon thought.
Secretary of State Rex Tillerson followed.
“This is what has kept the peace for 70 years,” the former Texas oilman said.
It was more of the old world order to Bannon: expensive, limitless engagements, promises made and kept.
Trump was shaking his head, disagreeing, although he did not say anything.
Cohn spoke next. He made the case for free trade: Mexico. Canada. Japan. Europe. South Korea. He presented the import and export data. We’re a huge exporter of agriculture products, about $130 billion a year, he noted. We need these countries to buy our agricultural products. The whole middle of the United States is basically farmers, he said.
Most of them were Trump voters.
U.S. arms deals abroad amounted to $75.9 billion in fiscal year 2017. It’s no mistake that we’ve got a lot of military aircraft at the same airport in Singapore where they buy a lot of Boeing aircraft, Cohn said. It’s no mistake that we’ve got enormous intelligence operations out of Singapore. It’s no mistake that our naval fleet goes in and out of there to refuel and resupply.
Trade deficits were growing the U.S. economy, Cohn asserted.
“I don’t want to hear that,” Trump said. “It’s all bullshit!”

"rules-based international democratic order"?? Oh, the rules that allow us to bomb, invade, and destabilize democracies at will? THOSE rules?

"security, stability and prosperity" For who?? Greece? Italy? Brazil? Philippines?

"kept the peace for 70 years”??? Syria? Ukraine? Iraq? Lebanon? Gaza? Yemen? Nigeria?

"free trade" At a huge trade imbalance, accompanied by the "giant sucking sound" of jobs leaving the USA?

Yanno, I often wonder if TPTB believe the bullshit that they spew. The book hasn't answered my question, but I see that they're still spewing bullshit.

Now I know why Cohen and Tillerson are gone, and I understand why Mattis is still there. Do you?

In Secret Calls, Putin Cultivated Trump’s Anger at the “Deep State”

Yet more evidence that Vladimir Putin has continued to ply President Trump with opposition to US intelligence and the so-called “deep state” during their conversations since President Trump entered the White House. Not surprising and yet stunning passage in this excerpt from Greg Miller’s new Trump book …

Trump’s admiration for the leader of Russia was inexplicable and never wavered after taking office. He praised the Russian leader, congratulated him, defended him, pursued meetings with him, and fought virtually any policy or punitive measure that might displease him.

A trained intelligence operative, Putin understood the power of playing to someone’s insecurities and ego. On cue, he reciprocated with frequent praise for the president he had sought to install in the White House.

In phone conversations with Trump, Putin would whisper conspiratorially, telling the U.S. president that it wasn’t their fault that they could not consummate the relationship that each had sought. Instead, Putin sought to reinforce Trump’s belief that he was being undermined by a secret government cabal, a bureaucratic “deep state.”

“It’s not us. We get it,” Putin would tell Trump, according to White House aides. “It’s the subordinates fighting against our friendship.”
