Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

In sum:

Google claims that with location tracking paused, your location data is no longer stored: "Google’s support page on the subject states: “You can turn off Location History at any time. With Location History off, the places you go are no longer stored.”"

But many apps such as weather, Google maps, and even simple searches will locate you in time and place, and that location data will be stored EVEN IF you have Location History paused.

This applies to around 2billion people using Google's Android operating software and iPhone users relying on Google maps or a simple search.

"Google, for its part, is defending the software and privacy tracking settings, saying the company has been PERFECTLY CLEAR and has not violated privacy ethics."

In other words, when Google says location tracking is off, and it tracks and records your time and location anyway, it hasn't misled you in any way. Clear enough?

I just heard that steps to actually turn off location tracking for real is now posted at commando.com which is apparently Kim Commando's website.
Sounds like none of the various applications make it easy. But they tested out and researched all of the steps and results.

I guess I'm just an old fashioned romantic at heart. I deeply feel that when google says you can turn the tracking software off and you will not be tracked - YOU SHOULD NOT IN FACT BE TRACKED. And I can't help but feel shocked, disappointed, and angry that google made a point of lying to me, and then insulted me by claiming it didn't lie.

THUGGER admits it's not about RUSSIA !!! and is, in fact, a witch hunt. "Trump better be innocent of any wrong doing, anywhere, anytime."

That's going to be quite a job keeping that website up. Every single app can just receive a random code change every single week that would change how this would be done, and at this point those changes could be run automatically at random intervals.

If Google went to the trouble of making things purposefully convoluted, it's because it is doing its best to follow the letter of the law while also making it as close to impossible for you to actually opt out of the "service". If people are going to start actively turning these things off, they're going to combat that by making the process even more convoluted without breaking the law.

I'm guessing that a lot of people who worked for the Government in Illinois are working at Google. Seems like tricks they would have learned from IL.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

I don't get it. When you KNOW google has always lied to you, at each and every opportunity, and fever to confiscate their lies, why would you conjure they would suddenly reverse course and stop lying to you?

Because this time it's so blatant, it's beyond insulting.

A few years back it came out that the NSA and CIA were doing all of the spying on Americans that I had been saying they were doing for decades and hardly anybody blinked an eye.

I'm not surprised that a large corporation that is practically part of the government at this point is going to start being blatant about these things.

Buckle up, cause I think you're going to start noticing this being the new way of things unless enough people stop using their services altogether, which I think we know will never happen.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

Has anyone tried these?

Nope. I'm assuming that's because her name is "Kim Kommando". The website you mentioned is copyrighted 2002 and is probably not hers: http://commando.com/

Likewise, I doubt very much that kommando.com is hers either: http://kommando.com/

Ah.... here it is. https://www.komando.com/tips/430434/what-does-google-know-about-me

Her name is Kim Komando, with one M.

I'm not really worried about it. I'm of the mind that the more you turn all of this stuff off, the bigger a bullseye you're painting on your back anyhow. It's just like when I've said that anybody who purchases a VPN service on their credit card is probably immediately put on a government watch list.

Thanks for the correction. Obviously, I've never visited her site - she's another Micro$haft sycophant.

Yeah, well it probably can't really hurt to do all of those things, but I'm of the mind that if you haven't done that from the start it's already too late anyhow. We've probably already all, on average, agreed to at least 100 contracts that we never read from other websites or products as well.

I suggest Hollywood make another reboot called "Dr. Strangelove or: How I learned to stop worrying and love the death of privacy"

It's already far too late to try and take it back now.

Do Right, Be Right. :)
