I have huge eyeballs

Basically the original is a list of each of these phony phuckheads tweeting the usual, "Our hearts and prayers go out to the victims and their families blah blah blah," and then how much money they have taken from the NRA or other gun lobbies:

Did you see Gov Scott wet himself last night on live tv when reporters asked him about the money he's taken and how he felt about a 19 year old with an AR-15? "Well... we are still gathering the facts and... and when we have them... we'll know better how to approach safe guarding our community. Surely, providing better mental health services is key..."

And now Trump is blaming the friends and classmates of the shooter for not telling anyone about his behavior. Fucksake.

Good morning, you braying 6ixJackass. Trump signed a bill making it easier for people with mental illness to buy guns.

On February 28, 2017, Trump signed a law revoking an Obama-era regulatory initiative that made it harder for people with mental illness to buy a gun.

Yet despite this effort to roll back even a very modest effort to restrain the ability of seriously incapacitated people from obtaining deadly weapons, this morning Trump tweeted that there were “so many signs that the Florida shooter was mentally disturbed,” implying that someone should have done something to report him.

Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump

So many signs that the Florida shooter was mentally disturbed, even expelled from school for bad and erratic behavior. Neighbors and classmates knew he was a big problem. Must always report such instances to authorities, again and again!

You don't need more guns on the street down there. You need this madness to STOP and now. How many children and other innocents have to die before your government does something?

I've been asking myself that question for years.

David Hogg, who survived the shooting, asked politicians to move beyond “thoughts and prayers” and take meaningful policy action to reduce America’s sky-high volume of gun deaths.

“Please!” he said, “We are children. You guys are, like, the adults. Take action, work together, over come your politics, and get something done.”

It won't be done. Republicans hold a 51-49 majority in the United States Senate, and even if two or three moderates could be tempted to cross the aisle and endorse a modest gun control measure, as Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA) and a couple of others did in 2013 in the wake of the Sandy Hook shooting, you’d need 60 votes to overcome a filibuster, which is very hard.

But even if you did overcome a filibuster, even a bill that had majority support in the US House of Representatives wouldn’t come to the floor for a vote because of the “Hastert Rule”. Only bills that are supported by a majority of House Republicans get a vote. The Hastert Rule is the "majority of the majority party" rule.

You are an asshole who fights against things you know nothing about. Even against your own best interests. You constantly mislabel things to the point of confusing yourself as to their actual meaning. It is a characteristic of someone with a low IQ.

Social justice is a concept of fair and just relations between the individual and society. This is measured by the explicit and tacit terms for the distribution of wealth, opportunities for personal activity and social privileges. In Western as well as in older Asian cultures, the concept of social justice has often referred to the process of ensuring that individuals fulfill their societal roles and receive what was their due from society. In the current global grassroots movements for social justice, the emphasis has been on the breaking of barriers for social mobility, the creation of safety nets and economic justice.

Per usual, the NRA pro-gun side step. It's about more than ONE thing, but one of those things sure as hell is GUNS.

Tweet from @TomiLahren
"Can the Left let the families grieve for even 24 hours before they push their anti-gun and anti-gunowner agenda? My goodness. This isn't about a gun it's about another lunatic." #FloridaShooting

Tweet from Marjory Stoneman Douglas School Student
"I was hiding in a closet for 2 hours. It was about guns. You weren't there, you don't know how it felt. Guns give these disgusting people the ability to kill other human beings. This IS about guns and this is about all the people who had their life abruptly ended because of guns."

Of course he was a monster, but monster's without high capacity guns are less dangerous monsters - get f*cking real. In FLA you can't get a handgun until you're 21, or a beer, but you can get an AR-15 style weapon at 18. You'd have be a complete idiot to think that makes sense.

It's not just that the NRA supports some politicians with considerable donations; but if a politician is seen as a defector from the gun manufacturers' agenda the NRA will support an alternate candidate and attack viciously, usually on fake issues that have nothing to do with guns (like extramarital affairs that never happened, or allegations of homosexuality etc) BEFORE the primaries, when it has the most impact. A lot of politicians in conservative states who might be more amenable to tighter registration requirements never even make it to the primaries, and nobody is the wiser.

So make sure to generously spread the blame to those who benefit the most and who are driving this bus. HINT: It's those with the most money at stake (see the list above).

Obviously, if you want to move the political agenda closer to what "the people" want (even NRA members) you have to find a way to reduce the influence of money on elections. That will solve a LOT of problems, not just the gun problem.

Quote:

NRA Gun Control Crusade Reflects Firearms Industry Financial Ties
Throughout its 142-year history, the National Rifle Association has portrayed itself as an advocate for the individual gun owner’s Second Amendment rights. In turn, the NRA relied on those gun owners, especially its 4 million or so members, to pressure lawmakers into carrying out its anti-gun control agenda.

In the last two decades, however, the deep-pocketed NRA has increasingly relied on the support of another constituency: the $12-billion-a-year gun industry, made up of manufacturers and sellers of firearms, ammunition and related wares. That alliance was sealed in 2005, when Congress, after heavy NRA lobbying, approved a measure that gave gunmakers and gun distributors broad, and unprecedented, immunity from a wave of liability lawsuits related to gun violence in America’s cities.

It was a turning point for both the NRA and the industry, both of which recognized the mutual benefits of a partnership. That same year, the NRA also launched a lucrative new fundraising drive to secure “corporate partners” that’s raked in millions from the gun industry to boost its operations.

But that alliance, which has grown even closer in recent years — and includes ties both financial and personal, a Huffington Post examination has found — has led to mounting questions from gun control advocates about the NRA’s priorities. Is the nation’s most potent gun lobby mainly looking out for its base constituency, the estimated 80 million Americans who own a firearm? Or is it acting on behalf of those that make and sell those guns?

According to a 2012 poll conducted by GOP pollster Frank Luntz for Mayors Against Illegal Guns, 74 percent of NRA members support mandatory background checks for all gun purchases, a position that the NRA has stridently opposed. “There’s a big difference between the NRA’s rank and file and the NRA’s Washington lobbyists, who live and breathe for a different purpose,” Mark Glaze, the executive director of the gun control group, said.

I think that is absolutely the opposite of what we need and it would only make the problem worse.

The first thing I think we should do is not even mention the name of the shooters, and never show their face on the news. Give them zero attention. Let anybody know right now that if you choose to do this then you will be known to nobody. The British press does this to great effect.

I can't recall the name of it right now, but there was an absolutely terrible cartoon movie made for Netflix where two 30 something guys in Hollywood realize their ship has sailed and they'll never be famous. At one point the one guy convinces his friend the only way they'll be famous is to become murderers. So that's what they decide they're going to do. It's the only thing I've ever actively voted down on Netflix ever.

EDIT: It was called Nerdland. Voiced by Patton Oswalt and Paul Rudd. I normally like those guys. Worst thing either of them ever did in my opinion.

While I agree modern society is far too preoccupied with violence porn and the ensuing obsession with heroes and villains, I think we tend to forget humans have ALWAYS been violent. This is just a new incarnation of the same old story.

I blame testosterone...AND fame. TOO much society, too much attention whoring, too much exposure to perfection idealism, social media, cult propaganda. They brainwash themselves and they don't even have the tools to deal with themselves, let alone 24/7/365 exposure to crappy human thoughts.

Well. Hollywood certainly doesn't help, but I don't think it's as simple as that. And I did just mention that movie Nerdland as a prime example of this illness in society today. Hell... it wouldn't surprise me if somebody checked his Netflix history and he watched the movie himself in the last 6 months.... maybe more than once.

There's a huge difference between "shooting" for the right reason and the wrong reason though, or any violence for that matter. As we advance as a society, the line between "right and wrong" rightfully becomes a lot more blurred than it was in the old days of the spaghetti western. That in itself is a good thing, IMO.

There was no honor in the recent school shooting or the vegas murder spree. I can't speak to the psychology of the Vegas incident in general since I don't know much about it (although I don't imagine there was any "good intentions", but with the school shooting this was just an instance of somebody who was trying to hurt as many people as he could just for the sake of hurting them.

Defending your country or your family or your home from people who would take them away from you otherwise is an honorable action. So I cannot agree that any movie in Hollywood that depticts violence of any type as being the cause for this violence as the problem.

Now if you want to talk about movies like Natural Born Killers, or Kingsmen, I'd be prone to agree with you.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

People who have good gun control, meaning they can shoot faster and straighter than the person shooting at them, are seen as winners because they are winners.
If not for these winners, the world would be speaking German or Japanese.
And if not for these winners, the last 2 Israeli school shootings would have ended without the teachers shooting the terrorists.

For President's Day, McKinley and Teddy Roosevelt agree with JewelStaiteFan, that the only good indian is a dead indian: William McKinley (1897-1901) started America’s extremely brutal colonization of the Philippines. One Kansas soldier told a reporter that “The country won’t be pacified until the niggers {i.e., Filipinos} are killed off like the Indians,” impressively squeezing all of America’s ugliest racial ideology into one sentence.

Teddy Roosevelt (1901-1909) was an appropriate choice for the U.S. at the dawn of the 20th century with its incipient industrialized genocides. “I don’t go so far as to think that the only good Indian is the dead Indian,” Roosevelt said pre-presidency, “but I believe nine out of every ten are, and I shouldn’t like to inquire too closely into the case of the tenth.”

AURaptor, I understand. Only seven children and teens are killed with guns in the US on an average day. Seventeen on special days.
https://everytownresearch.org/gun-violence-by-the-numbers/

I understand AURaptor’s indifference because drug overdoses accounted for 52,404 U.S. deaths per year and 20.8 million people aged 12 or older had a substance use disorder. The economic impact is $442 billion from the misuse of prescription drugs, illicit drugs and alcohol. It is all part of the fine American tradition that you are on your own to solve your own problems. The only help is what you pay for yourself. Good luck with that tradition, America! Impeach away Tigger. You don't actually think that Trump would resign like Nixon did, do you? If an impeachment actually happens, he'll finish out his term like Bill Clinton did. If it's found out afterward that there was no Russian collusion all along, an impeachment will all but guaranty that he gets re-elected in 2020.

We Should Ban Semi-Automatic Firearms.

For the record: semi-automatic weapons should be banned for civilian use. Basically, shotguns, revolvers, and bolt-action rifles would remain legal, and that’s it. This respects the 2nd amendment, while disrespecting the NRA.

A bunch of gun folks chimed in to claim I was an idiot. Revolvers are semi-automatic weapons! Ha ha ha. Being the reasonable guy that I am, I was willing to consider them manual load weapons, since it takes human power to advance the cylinder. A true semi-automatic uses the power of expanding gas to chamber a round. However, if the gun folks consider a double-action revolver to be a semi-automatic, who am I to argue? That just means my list has been revised to single-action revolvers, Break-Action single-barrel shotgun (NO pump-action shotguns), and bolt-action rifles. In other words, the only legal firearms for civilians would be those that require a separate human action to load the next round.

But nothing like this will happen.

What would happen to all "illegal" guns already in circulation?

What happens to cars with no license plate? The owners keep them off the roads, out of circulation. Those "illegal" semiautomatic guns will have to be kept out of circulation by their owners. They could be made useless by requiring owners to bring their gun in when they buy ammo for it. Buying ammo for a semiautomatic? The store is not gonna sell ammo to you. Need a gunsmith for your semiautomatic? Gunsmith won't fix your gun. Want parts to fix your own gun or reload your own cartridges? Nobody will sell to you until they see the actual weapon. It better not be a semiautomatic.

But nothing like this happen.

I think about it for 10 minutes and decide that there are certainly Republicans suggesting "solutions". An example of what passes for "thinking":

Root, a self-described “passionate, committed libertarian,” thinks schools should use armed military drones, presumably to take out school shooters before they can kill anyone else.

But the primary purpose of armed drones is to kill people — whether they are the military drones used at Nellis Air Force Base or the drones that will be used at the US military’s secret $100 million drone base in Niger. Further, the argument that using armed drones in war zones (or domestically, for that matter) rather than sending in troops “saves” American lives (or anyone else’s) is highly debatable.

And that’s in regions of countries engaged in years of war like Syria, Yemen, and Iraq — not in American schools. They’re not hostile zones rife with al-Qaeda operatives or members of ISIS; instead, they’re full of children. To put an armed drone in a school to “protect students” would serve only to terrify them.

Add to that that each armed drone can cost as much as $30,000 per flight hour, and Root’s suggestion starts to look not only dangerous to individual lives and the civil liberties of American students, but remarkably impractical.

The idea of drones at schools is terrifying.

I remember being the last class to not even have a rent-a-cop in the school my freshman year. By sophomore year we had one, by senior year we had three. They did not have firearms. By the time my little brother graduated 4 years later they had armed guards and now they've got metal detectors and who knows what else.

Per usual, don't blame the perp, blame " guns !!! " , the GOP, NRA and , Trump, of course.

But never the actual monster who pulled the trigger. HE's a " victim " too !

Students nationwide are going to take to the streets in march over this. Their message is that anyone taking money from the NRA is going down. If you are unaware of what is happening I suggest you read a paper. Now, now I think something is in the works that may lead to change.

For full discloser, I have a WCP. Go kids, I'm with you...and this is another nail in the GOP's coffin. Can't wait for November, how bout you.

260 days 9 hours until we have the votes to impeach Trump.

I heard about this and think it is a good thing. Maybe, maybe some of your government officials will get their heads out of the NRA's arses and listen. Now, the victims are starting to fight back.

Not to totally take this thread off topic but that young Kansas soldier from WW II was also ignorant. Indians weren't all killed off but during those years we were so rare in White society that we may have well been.

And I am not surprised by Roosevelt either.

WTF, world?

From a much longer story written by a teacher about “ALICE Training” in her school (alert, lockdown, inform, counter, and evacuate): As a teacher, shooter drills were bad. Being expected to die for my students was terrifying.

I was expected to protect my students with my own life.

But let’s pause to think about how dystopian this is: Ordinary men and women, drawn to teaching by their love of children and learning, have to think about scenarios that might typically haunt the dreams of soldiers in wartime. It’s certainly not what one would expect when they pursue their degree in education — and, contrary to what some might say today, it’s not what teachers signed up for.

I applaud those people who responded coolly to the most horrifying situations imaginable and made the ultimate sacrifice to protect their students, but at the same time, such superhuman bravery simply cannot be a routine expectation of educators. And yet it feels as though today it’s sneaked into the job description — an awful addendum in invisible ink.

Why do we live in a society where educators need to be trained in how to respond to a psychotic gunman, when school shootings are preventable? The majority of Americans favor stronger gun laws. It’s the politicians who are the problem — the ones who receive millions of dollars from the National Rifle Association and can therefore, time and again, only muster “thoughts and prayers” instead of action and change.

How are they preventable?

Banning firearms is not the answer, and as I've stated before the issue is moot because nothing is going to change. Gun laws got even more lax during Obama's presidency than they were during GWB's presidency. There were millions of guns in the hands of the people before Columbine happened, and before that a mass shooting was a pretty rare occurrence in the US.

I'm not saying that these scenarios aren't preventable. I'm asking how do we solve the issues behind them? How do we go back? What is different today?

It's a stupid comment because half of the people on the planet have large amounts of testosterone flowing through their veins and most men wouldn't dream of ever doing something like this.

We've already hashed this out months ago Wishy.

Girls today are getting into more fights in school than ever before. Not little slap fights either, but pull each other's hair and scratch each other's eyes out type of fights.

That's the thing about equality, Wishy. One day you're going to have to realize that you've got to take the good with the bad. And boy, is there a lot of bad.

Ours might be the last generation where a majority of the people get married. A lot of women are going to be on their own. Your daughter might be one of them.

Anyone know WHY he shot up a school ? HIS school ?

Anyone know WHY he shot randomly, at all kids, and teachers , no selecting anyone by race, gender or specific groups ?

OMG !! GUNS !!!

Guns aren't the problem. In fact, lack of guns were the problem, as no one could defend themselves. Gun Free Zone. My muscular buttocks. Caged pen for 1 lone hunter is all it was.
