Second thing wrong is your unstated assumption that an Ex-President's residence can't be searched for evidence of a crime. The FBI didn't announce who the suspected criminal is or what crime is being investigated, but an Ex-President's residence is not a foreign nation's embassy on U.S. soil so it is not exempt from search warrants authorized by a judge who has been convinced there is possible evidence of a crime.
