What females do you look up to or admire, or just respect?

No, I don't consider victimhood to be a valid criteria.
To reduce confusion, Marital Status has no bearing on qualification. Nor predilection to BungSex. Why would I have even thought that needed to be expressly stated for this topic?

For me: my mother, my Godmother. Susan Engeleiter. Sarah Palin. Mary Anne Schiavo. Jennifer Aniston. Keira Knightley. 2 past Secretaries of my Local Mensa Chapter. Kimberly Stassel (WSJ columnist, I think.) Ann Coulter. Mary Matalin. Marlee Matlin. Shania Twain. Condoleeza Rice. Natasha Kassulke (local journalist). Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefish. Michelle Malkin. Tiffany Amber Theissen, Geena Davis.

My mom, my grandmas, Cassie Jaye, Lindsay Shepherd, Kaitlin Olson... to name a few.

I'm sure just like everybody else, they're all messed up in the head one way or another. I don't have any role models, per say, but these are women I respect for their strength, their beliefs, their successes and the way they treat other people.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

As an authoress of coherent, rational and logical books - which I believe have been bestsellers, she rates disparagement from the likes of you?
I shall edit the OP to state that Marital Status is not a qualifier or disqualifier.
Just because she doesn't expouse bung sex, or only being fully clothed at all times in the bedroom does not mean she is more airheaded than you.

Since I am a woman, my primary role models should be women I admire, yes?

My mom had a lot of good qualities especially after she got done having babies.
But I never wanted to be like her. I got along better with my Aunt, who encouraged
me a lot.

After I grew up, I had an older friend who was an excellent influence on me; it was res-
pect & bond at first sight. She was unique, very special, had a great sense of humor.

Remembering teachers I had from kindergarten thru HS ... I don't think I ever admired
any of them. Our English teacher, Mr. R: he was a good teacher, but he wouldn't accept
book reports for science fiction, because, in his opinion, it was all junk.
... So I showed him a collection of stories by the best & wisest authors. He admitted
they were insightful & not junk. But he didn't budge on the no-sci-fi rule.

Esther Perel, relationship therapist. Wise, compassionate, strong and just brilliant at what she does. She heals broken relationships (or at least facilitates that healing). Hard to overstate how powerful and life-changing this is, and how much good she accomplishes.

You can hear real couples' sessions with her on Youtube:

Eleanor Roosevelt
Anna Eleanor Roosevelt (October 11, 1884 – November 7, 1962) was an American
politician, diplomat and activist. She was the longest-serving First Lady of the
United States, having held the post from March 1933 to April 1945 during husband
President Franklin D. Roosevelt's four terms in office, and served as United States
Delegate to the United Nations General Assembly from 1945 to 1952.
President Harry S. Truman later called her the "First Lady of the World" in tribute
to her human rights achievements.

(They were invited there by the reformers Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott.) Most of the delegates agreed: American women were autonomous individuals who deserved their own political identities. “We hold these truths to be self-evident,” proclaimed the Declaration of Sentiments that the delegates produced, “that all men and women are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights ..."

What is a "role model"? It is an image or view of how some one/group should look or act.

When that image is presented to an audience, over and over again, EVEN IF it's ludicrous, eventually the audience will come to accept at least SOME of that view, and SOME of the audience will accept ALL of that view.

To the makers and purchasers of videogames and sexbots (and online porn) this is what many young men are being conditioned to expect how women should look and behave. i.e. a role model.

A role model, as I understand it, is someone that inspires individuals to imitate, not an ideal that society or the corporate world projects onto people, involuntarily.

So sexbots/porn might warp men's views and expectations of women (which is, admittedly, a big problem) but they don't particularly inspire women, I would argue. Sexbots/porn/sexy video game characters etc. are more of a window into male sexuality, ego and loneliness, than some conspiracy to mould women.

Six, "fun to dress up as for cosplay" does not equate to being a role model. (Not to say that you can't dress up as one of your role models - sometimes people do - but one is not necessarily proof of the other.)

The real test for role models is whether there are people out there who would say, "this is one of my role models". I don't think you or Sig are saying that about Tifa Lockhart.

In addition to sexbots not inspiring women, I expect they are not what most men would respect, admire (as a person, not an object), or wish to emulate.

I'm not saying that, personally, about Tifa Lockhart. FFVII was one of the games in the series that I missed.

I felt that way about Mal and Shepherd Book on Firefly though. They weren't real. A lot of people dressed up like them.

Mal and Book can be role models, but Tifa can't?

What about great characters in literature?

Are all forms of media off limits? Or is it just video games that are?

Or is it just the sexy women in video games that are?

It's not as if Tifa presents an unrealistic image of a woman. Many of the pictures above are proof that women can look like her. Some of them show that they love the character so much they'll dress like her even if they don't fit the image design of the character.

Yep, I would say fictional characters can be role models. TV, film, books - sure. Video games? Hmm, probably less common. It's not really an artistic medium, is it?
Tifa Lockhart seems to me to fit into that category of female character who is designed by men, for men. Quite like the sexbots Sig posted. So not all that likely to be a role model... but that's for the women of the world to decide I suppose.

Wow. Another inconvenient truth for kpo.
For many years the primary, perhaps sole industry hiring digital artists was gaming, or video games. This market essentially drove all demand for this form of art, the development of this artistic medium.

I don't have time right now to find articles about it, but there are many people in the gaming community who actually resent it when somebody dismisses their favorite medium as less than others. We've come a long way since Pac-Man.

It would explain how some of the biggest YouTubers today are "let's players", where their channel consists of nothing but playing a game... either with or without commentary while playing. I thought it was a pretty stupid idea to me when I first heard about it too, but I recently watched somebody play Resident Evil 7 all the way through. The graphics today are so good, and the multi-million dollar budgets they have allow for a serious script and thrilling gameplay. I haven't watched a horror movie since The Ring, but I watched some guy play Resident Evil 7 because I don't even own a next gen console and I'm terrible at those types of games.

I can't remember the name of a game that I read was the second to be featured at the Sundance Film Festival, so I did a quick google search. It's not in this article, but here's something you might read:

https://www.sundance.org/blogs/program-spotlight/the-art-of-storytelli
ng-in-gaming

Granted, Final Fantasy VII did come out about 20 years ago, but the Final Fantasy series was far ahead of its time in terms of story telling and is still thought of by many fans of the series as the best game even today (Final Fantasy 15 just came out recently).

I'd bet that a lot of people who would still dress up as Tifa or Cloud or any of the other characters from that game were little kids when they played it and it left a very strong mark on "who they are" today. Those stories were always epic, and I still remember very fondly playing Final Fantasy II on the Super Nintendo several times through when I was around 11 or 12 years old.

And as for women of the world being the deciders if Tifa is a role model.... I think that's a pretty sexist comment. If she was written well enough and wasn't just "boobs", why couldn't she be a role model for men today who were boys when they played FFVII?

Do Right, Be Right. :)
