The Times is reporting Tillerson may be replaced.

Is any of Trumps original cabnit members going to make it through the year. For someone who ran a campaign based on his ability to pick the best people, he sure does suck at it.

Lets play a game. Who's left, who's gone.

JewelStaiteFan, you've got to be pretty ignorant (and you are) to not know that one year into Trump's presidency, hundreds of key executive branch positions remain unfilled. Competent, knowledgeable people won’t work for him. That is because working for him will end badly for them. The proof is all the people who have left Trump.

Sounds to me like they're positions that might not need filling. I'm glad to see this in action. It's not as if it was ever going to happen under a Bush or Clinton dynasty.

Oops, right JSF oops. Three months after I said it looked like Trump wanted him out, Trump fired him. He replaced him with Pompeo just as I my initial post said he would. What an ass you are. Try reading a news paper. Educate yourself before you speak.

And since I'm posting. tick tock tick tock

Damn, from Nov! Nice one T!

It's a badge of honor to be dismissed by JSF - not much honor maybe, but there you go. *salute*

Meanwhile: so we have a noob as Sec of State, an empty room for our NK diplomatic contacts, and an empty chair for our South Korean ambassador... seems like the perfect time to talk Nukes with NK!

Because JSF was such an ass, and because second made a great point about all the empty positions at the State Department, I wanted to revive this thread. It was your post that enlightened me to the firing.

My hope is that Pompeo will start rebuilding the agency. We'll see if that is his intention soon enough.

Top Intel Dem excoriates GOP over end of Russia probe

he top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) ripped into Republicans on the committee on Monday after they announced they were ending the probe into alleged ties between the Trump campaign and Russian election meddling.

"While the Majority members of our committee have indicated for some time that they have been under great pressure to end the investigation, it is nonetheless another tragic milestone for this Congress, and represents yet another capitulation to the executive branch," Schiff said in a statement.

"By ending its oversight role in the only authorized investigation in the House, the Majority has placed the interests of protecting the President over protecting the country, and history will judge its actions harshly," he continued.

"If the Russians do have leverage over the President of the United States, the Majority has simply decided it would rather not know," he said.

I don't know much about Pompeo other than hearing him speak at his confirmation hearing. Seemed pretty capable in that context, but who knows. I am seeing some other reports that are less flattering, more extreme behavior:

http://theatln.tc/2FydIbd

I also see some reports that the WH is expecting to move some more dead weight out of the WH/cabinet - Trump even publicly announced he "almost has the cabinet he wants." So expect more firing.

And then there's the recent House Intel investigation closure. Not so much that it was a scam (duh!) just it's rather sudden closing, as if it's timed to synch with other events and not just "we're done here." I'm not going to be surprised if Trump feels emboldened (and even is getting off) and makes even larger moves, like Mueller, who I honestly can't believe still has a job.

Pompeo is wicked smart but is very political in what he says. He is way smarter than Trump.

I wonder if Mueller will look to see if anyone from the White House communicated with any of the House republicans, to see if the White House pressured them into shutting down their investigation. Remember, they will be under oath if he does. And we know it happened.

Think obstruction...

I wonder if the timing of this had anything to do with Tillerson (a few hours earlier) stating the obvious and blaming Russia for the recent poisoning of Skripal (Russian spy for MI6) with a nerve agent on UK soil - something the WH press secretary shamefully refused to do...

The last straw?

Quote:

Hours before being ousted as secretary of state, Rex Tillerson called the poisoning of an ex-Russian spy and his daughter with a military-grade nerve agent in the U.K. “a really egregious act” that appears to have “clearly” come from Russia.

The knives come out again - for Steve Goldstein now:

Quote:

Shortly after President Donald Trump ousted Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and tapped CIA Director Mike Pompeo to take his place, State Department spokesperson Steve Goldstein issued a statement on the firing that’s frankly astonishing. It undercut the White House so aggressively that Goldstein was fired shortly after it went out .

Goldstein confirmed that Tillerson was fired, a rarity in a Washington where “resigns to spend more time with his family” is the norm. But the statement goes further than that, revealing that Trump did not inform Tillerson of the reason for his firing or even speak to the secretary personally before dismissing him.

I’ve been in Washington covering foreign policy and politics for nearly a decade now. I’ve never seen anything like this statement. Here’s the full text, as emailed to reporters:

The Secretary had every intention of staying because of the critical progress made in national security. He will miss his colleagues at the the [sic] Department of State and the foreign ministers he has worked with throughout the world.

The Secretary did not speak to the President and is unaware of the reason, but he is grateful for the opportunity to serve, and still believes strongly that public service is a noble calling.

We wish Secretary Designate Pompeo well.

I saw a clip of PM May in the House of Commons giving Russia/Putin a deadline for explaining what happened - I have to say, I admired her starch and the quiet huzzahs in the background. What's the attitude about this poisoning (if you care to guess) in England right now, KPO, and what's the overall feeling toward May? Is she 'damaged goods" because of Brexit?

The public mood is pretty angry about the Skripal poisoning because:

1. The Russians have done this before in '06 with Litvenenko. Two confirmed poisonings begins to look like state policy...
2. The indiscriminate nature of the poisoning, affecting Skripal's daughter and a British policeman, and generally putting the general public at risk

Add to this that Skripal was a British citizen and you've got an international incident that won't blow over quickly.

As for May, yes her response on this has been good - about the only thing she's been good on. Her whole schtick is to pass herself off as "strong and stable", but this facade fell to pieces during the election last year where she wussed out of the TV debate with other party leaders and generally campaigned terribly and then lost her parliamentary majority (in an election that she called). And then she gave this 'car crash' convention speech a few months later -

As for Brexit, the country is still split near down the middle, but everyone is pretty much agreed that the government is botching the negotiations. The debate still rages over hard Brexit or Soft brexit; but the government is still holding out for a have-your-cake-and-eat-it fantasy Brexit. Plus they have no coherent plan for the Ireland/N.Ireland border. Meanwhile the government's own impact assessments show that the hard Brexit they want is going to be economically terrible, especially for poorer, working-class areas (the people Siggy claimed she cared about when she cheered Brexit on 2 years ago).

LOL... you heard it here folks, I'm not American.

I'm an Russian spy that has been forming a ridiculously over engineered backstory for myself over the last 12 years just so I could annoy T on a forum that has 12 regular posters in 2018.

I'll tell you what, T. If Russia had enough money to completely waste on your theories such as this one, I'd want to live there because any country with that kind of money, time and resources to burn couldn't possibly be anything short of Utopia.

You are a silly person. I thank you for the endless amusement that you bring to myself and other rational minds on a nearly daily basis here.

Yes - I think Jack just has too much time on his hands and doesn't really care about any of this. Not totally sure why he keeps posting other than to poke a stick at the evil Liberals who seem to be everywhere and rarely agree with him.

Thanks for the knowledge KPO. Sorry to hear that May has had too many bad moments to rally people effectively. I could only watch some of her car crash speech... painful... ever public speaker's worst nightmare.
So what's the next deciding moment for Brexit, hard or soft? Is there a no-turning-back-moment coming up and if so, to be decided by whom, or more seemingly endless debating?
