For any of the morons here who don't make it to the end of the video, I'll transcribe the point he makes at the end for you.

Quote:

When you lie on the behest of the establishment, there is never a price to pay.

You can commit war crimes at the behest of the establishment, and there will never be a price to pay.

Just ask Dick Cheney, Don Rumsfeld, Condoleezza Rice and George Bush.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

Trump's campaign looked more like a great big exercise in branding. He wouldn’t win, but he’d come out of the campaign in shape to take over another reality TV show, or maybe start his own network. Remember that?

The question always was, did Trump see his campaign in the same way? The answer seems to be yes, or else why would he have done stuff like throw in with the Russians, or have his people meet with Putin’s bankers and Gulf Arab potentates in the Seychelles? Or commit what we now know are felonies by paying off porn stars and playmates to keep silent? Those are the kind of things you do if you figure you’re not going to get caught. Which in the case of running for president, means you also figure you’re not going to win. All that shit you pulled on the campaign will go right down the memory hole when you lose, right?

Wrong. He won. And all the shit that was supposed to go down the memory hole almost immediately popped right up and started biting him in the ass. He was denying that his campaign had any contacts with Russians, and denying it outright, in January of 2017, only a week before he took office. He was thinking, I can treat this whole “Russia thing” the same way I treated everything else at my rallies during the campaign. I’ll just say some outrageous shit, and a couple of idiots in the “press” will yell about it, and it will go away.

Wrong. A few weeks later, his national security adviser was busted lying to the FBI and departing the White House. A few weeks after that, his FBI director was telling the world that his campaign had been under investigation for nine months. Nine months! A few weeks after that, he was firing his FBI director. And a few weeks after that, some patrician asshole who looked like John Kerry was opening every fucking drawer and examining every bank statement and subpoenaing every cell phone record and digging into every crummy little fucking deal with every shady character he’d ever made in his life.

All those condos he sold to Russians bearing funny money? All those illegals he hired when he built Trump Tower? All those contracts he’d welched on? Everything was fair game.

This preppie Mueller nailed Trump’s campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, and his deputy campaign chairman, Rick Gates. He went digging around in the weeds and found some nobody named Papadopoulos and nailed him. He scrounged around on the internet and found some Russians and nailed them. He dug a little deeper and found the Russian intelligence outfit that stole Hillary’s emails and nailed 12 of their agents.

Then Mueller started sniffing around Don Junior and the Trump Tower meeting. When he turned over the Roger Stone, he found some right-wing loon named Corsi holding hands with Assange, and went after the lot of ‘em. He started looking into the Seychelles and found Betsy DeVos’ brother and some Putin buddy and a big-time Gulf Arab who had also visited Trump Tower, and god only knows what else.

This week, Trump learned that they’re looking into the hundred million or so he raised for his inauguration, which turned out to be not very big, and certainly not big enough to have justified spending north of a hundred million dollars.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

Still waiting for that .TRUMP.RUSSIA.COLLUSION. package.

Even THUGGER's own post "URGENT! PRESIDENT TRUMP BREAKING NEWS TODAY With Katy DEC 10, 2018" flogged by NBC shows there is no 'there' there.

So Bill, is there a breaking point for some Republican lawmakers?
14:55
I talked to one Senator who said there would be IF MULLER WERE TO PRODUCE EVIDENCE OF AN ACTUAL CONSPIRACY BETWEEN TRUMP AND THE RUSSIANS, if they were to document collusion for example ...

They wasted 48 minutes of my life fluffing and primping each other's .TRUMP.RUSSIA.COLLUSION. wet dream and pretending this one critical point didn't exist.

In fact, the more peripheral and tenuous the players become over time, the more it become apparent there was no collusion.

Take Butina for example.
Quote:

In 2013 she met Republican political operative Paul Erickson in Russia. The two became close, started dating, and eventually moved in together.
Wait. Am I supposed to believe she became close to Erickson in 2013 in order to help Trump win the republican primary and the general election?

and former U.S. Senator and 2016 presidential candidate Rick Santorum.

In 2015 she emailed him (Erickson) a description of her plan to help the Republicans win the 2016 elections through the National Rifle Association (NRA). ... At the 2015 NRA annual meeting, she met Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker,
Because ... Trump?

These are extremely indirect, protracted, and minor efforts to influence American politics, starting well before Trump became a presidential candidate, and never directly in contact with Trump.

If Trump was 'colluding' with Russia, why work so diligently through such a tortuous path to make contact?

There is no 'there' there.

These 44 Former Senators Command Senate 'to Be Steadfast and Zealous Guardians of Our Democracy'

Across-party group of former senators has written an open letter describing their fears that the U.S. is entering a “dangerous period.”

The letter, addressed to the current Senate, contains a dire warning by 44 former Democrat, Republican and independent senators regarding the outcome of special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe converging with a time of “regional conflicts and global power confrontations.”

The letter, published in The Washington Post, states that although they were on different sides of the aisle, the senators all had a common goal of upholding the Constitution—which they felt was now under threat. The letter was signed by 32 Democrats, 10 Republicans and two independents.

“It is our shared view that we are entering a dangerous period, and we feel an obligation to speak up about serious challenges to the rule of law, the Constitution, our governing institutions and our national security,” it states.

And I gotta' ask - the letter was supposedly published in the WaPo, but you have no WaPo link. Instead, I see the Deep State echo chamber busy at work, in the Newsweek 'news'story about a WaPo 'news'story, in the CNN 'news'story referenced in the Newsweek 'news'story about a WaPo 'news'story, and in the Politico 'news'story referenced in the Newsweek 'news'story about a WaPo 'news'story.

All this, even though there is no 'there' there.

I suspect you don't realize it, but you don't actually know what's in the WaPo letter, because Newsweek didn't republish or even link it. And YOUR OWN SOURCE says this: "Without directly mentioning Donald Trump’s name". So all your ASSumptions about "44 retired Senators concerned about Trumps presidency" are laughable.

. . .

If Trump was 'colluding' with Russia, why work so diligently through such a tortuous path to make contact?

There is no 'there' there.

By repeatedly screaming “NO COLLUSION” Trump has framed the investigation as being about something that legal experts say isn’t even a crime — rather than, say, obstruction of justice.

“Most criminals are convicted often on significant circumstantial evidence, but in the case of politicians, people who like them insist, ‘Show me the money, show me the smoking gun,'” says Paul Rosenzweig, who worked on Ken Starr’s investigation of Bill Clinton.

Prosecutors complain that jurors demand unrealistic levels of forensic evidence of criminality. Trump has capitalized on this by claiming in at least 20 tweets that Mueller doesn’t have “evidence” of crimes committed by him. But the circumstantial evidence of wrongdoing by the president is becoming overwhelming, even though Trump’s supporters are holding out for that smoking gun.

Trump's messaging strategy has set monumentally high standards for Mueller’s investigation; the growing convictions against all his henchmen are offset by the repeated insistence that Mueller has nothing directly on Trump himself.

That wouldn’t be much of a defense in court, but the chances are that Trump won’t have to defend himself in front of a judge. Trump’s jury is Congress — lawmakers who base their views in large part on those of Republicans who voted for Trump. So, while Trump’s angry, repetitive tweeting into the abyss seems crass, the way Trump has framed the probe — so that even his opponents have exceptionally high expectations of Mueller — could be what saves him.

Have you seen the movie First Man, about Neil Armstrong? Trump is the Anti-Armstrong. When a problem needs Trump to be quiet, listen and think, he talks louder and longer and makes the least sense. When a problem needs careful attention, Trump is flipping switches at random and yanking the control yoke in an epileptic seizure. The guy isn't a criminal so much as he is nuts, maybe criminally insane describes him. Calmer people, ones that didn't vote for Trump, notice Trump has serious mental problems that started long ago:

Ross Douthat’s column arguing for the superiority of “25th Amendment remedies” to impeachment for Donald Trump’s various misdeeds is impressive in its ability to actually find something new and interesting to say about the president. But its premise — shared with a David Brooks column from earlier in the week — that we should understand Trump’s behavior as resembling that of a little kid is fundamentally wrong.

“It is a child who blurts out classified information in order to impress distinguished visitors,” Douthat writes. “It is a child who asks the head of the F.B.I. why the rules cannot be suspended for his friend and ally.”

The truth is that Trump is no child. He’s a man who’s learned over the course of a long and rich life that he is free to operate without consequence, a privilege that America grants to the wealthy.

Trump has spent his entire career skating away from lawbreaking with a fine paid here and a political contribution there. He’s an unusual figure, but also very much an exemplar of his era and a product of a decades-long ideological campaign to do as much as possible to empower the wealthy and powerful.

The presidency is not just another office. It has become, for good reasons and bad ones, a seat of semi-monarchical political power, a fixed place on which unimaginable pressures are daily brought to bear, and the final stopping point for decisions that can lead very swiftly to life or death for people the world over.

One does not need to be a Marvel superhero or Nietzschean Übermensch to rise to this responsibility. But one needs some basic attributes:

1) a reasonable level of intellectual curiosity,
2) a certain seriousness of purpose,
3) a basic level of managerial competence,
4) a decent attention span,
5) a functional moral compass,
6) a measure of restraint and self-control.

And if a president is deficient in one or more of them, you can be sure it will be exposed.

Trump is seemingly deficient in them all. Some he perhaps never had, others have presumably atrophied with age. He certainly has political talent — charisma, a raw cunning, an instinct for the jugular, a form of the common touch, a certain creativity that normal politicians lack. He would not have been elected without these qualities. But they are not enough, they cannot fill the void where other, very normal human gifts should be.

Judge excoriates Trump ex-adviser Flynn, delays Russia probe sentencing

At one point, Sullivan asked prosecutors if Flynn could have been charged with treason, although the judge later said he had not been suggesting such a charge was warranted.

“Arguably, you sold your country out,” Sullivan told Flynn. “I’m not hiding my disgust, my disdain for this criminal offense.”

DC Circuit upholds mystery grand jury subpoena

An unnamed corporation owned by a foreign government cannot avoid a grand jury subpoena, according to a court decision on Tuesday.

The D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the subpoena of a mystery witness in a sealed case that earlier this year stirred speculation about possible ties to special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia investigation.

According to the decision, an unnamed corporation owned by a foreign country, known only in the opinion as "Country A," tried to quash the subpoena, arguing it was immune from criminal proceedings under the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act and that the subpoena is unenforceable because it would require "the Corporation" to violate "Country A's" domestic law.

Chris Matthews: Trump Jr., Ivanka ‘stand as the next dominoes to fall’

MSNBC host Chris Matthews said Monday that Donald Trump Jr. and Ivanka Trump could be "the next dominoes to fall" in special counsel Robert Mueller's ongoing investigation.

"The president’s children stand right in the line of Mueller’s investigative progress," Matthews said on "Hardball." "They stand as the next dominoes to fall."

"Therein lies the problem, where earlier Mueller subjects have given [President] Trump up, these two lack the option to do that. They can hardly testify against their father," he continued. "If the prosecutor will not be stopped and the kids will not fall to him, we see the president’s adult children heading to prison."

Given the increasing level uv seemingly erratic behavior, she can count on him doing stuff that will start alienating hiz base and damajing the GoP even more, so she may be doing the rite thing. The country woud be a much better plase if the party totally crashed.

They only need a dozen JO and Trump is delivering them up now. Still, we need the Mueller report before acting. Even though what Trump has done so far is far worse then what Clinton did or Nixon.

The same legal entanglements may trip Trump as they did Nixon. Nixon cheated on his taxes. He got caught because an IRS employee (later fired) sent his tax returns to the Providence Journal-Bulletin. Nixon’s tax returns showed he paid just $792.81 in federal income taxes in 1970 and $878.03 in 1971. His annual salary was $200,000. The Joint Committee on Taxation — Congress’s in-house office of nonpartisan tax experts — determined that Nixon actually owed $475,431 in a 1,000 page report that required 4 months to write. If Nixon had not been pardoned by Vice-President Ford, he might have paid what he owed, but there is no record he paid anything at all. If Trump follows Nixon's example, Trump could avoid paying his taxes if he resigns in exchange for a pardon from his Vice-President Pence.
www.politico.com/story/2018/12/23/nixon-trump-tax-returns-1050587

Pence might be delighted to be President for only a few months in 2020-21, especially if it looks like Trump cannot win reelection. Only time will tell what Trump and Pence decide to do. I'm pretty sure Trump knows approximately how many $billions he cheated in taxes. The bigger the number the more likely Trump is to resign and let Pence entertain himself as President, in exchange for a pardon on his taxes.

To all those who claim the Mueller investigation is a "witch hunt", let's look at the facts.

There already have been a number of people indicted as well as those who have plead guilty, including Popadopolous for lying about contacts with Russians, Gates for doing the same, Flynn for lying about contacts with Russians, Manafort -- Trump's former campaign chairman – for corruption and tax evasion (the lesser of the many charges possible against him), Cohen for lying about contacts with Russians including business dealings in Moscow, and most BEFORE the presidential election of 2016, many Russian intelligence officers (GRU), the Russian Internet Research Agency (the troll farm), and Putin's right hand man Prigozhin.

My hunch is that after January 3, when there will be some protection in Congress for Mueller's investigation, other indictments will follow, including probably Julian Assange (sealed indictment already leaked), Carter Page, and Trump Campaign Advisor Roger Stone. In Stone's case, he already has admitted contact with the main hacker, Gucifer 2.0, identified as a GRU officer, and Wikileaks, the vehicle the Russians chose to divulge the emails they had hacked. But let's not term Stone's role as collusion; let's use the legal term of conspiracy. Also, we haven't even touched upon Trump's possible witness tampering and obstruction of justice. His goose is cooked and he knows it and he is now frantic. All he can do is try to discredit the investigations and the judiciary by manipulating the press, and Putin has ordered his trolls to do the same thing. But it is too late. Witch hunt? Indeed.

Cohen’s ‘never been to Prague’ tweet comes back to haunt him

McClatchy reports that a mobile phone traced to Cohen pinged cell towers around Prague in the summer of 2016, around the same time that the so-called Steele Dossier said he met with Russian officials about the 2016 election. The news outlet says four people spoke with them about the latest information.

lol. Just like anything else Trump has been accused of so far, there is zero evidence that he cheated on his taxes.

The only evidence Maddow ever came up with was Trump's 2005 tax return where he paid everything he owed.
