If you think uv America az a cattle ranch, everything starts to make more sens. Wun uv the thingz about this to think about iz how they keep us under control.

Wile cojitating on arguments for gun control, I realized that public debates on this issue are alwayz limited to little piecemeal lawz and regulationz that will hav very little effect, yet the pro-gun crowd will still fite tooth & nail agenst them.

Its az if the existing lawz are a fake fens, set up just to distract the cattle, waste their time and provide a sort uv alarm system for the 'rancherz'. The herd gets a litl riled up wen sum uv them get slauterd, so draw their attention to this short length uv fens in the middl uv the field. Let them beat agenst that rather than the real fens.

And its not just the gun issue, its everything. Food, houzing, money, transportation, medisin/helth care, entertainment - everything that we need and want. Its all set up to extract from us az effectively and efficiently az possibl. Manajing the herd. The Gumits uv the world are just there to help the rancherz.

Sometimes I think that, especially when I see things I know are blatant propaganda, and then other times I think we do it to ourselves, keeping things status quo because we can't deal with change, and such a short attention span we won't care tomorrow anyway.

I know I'm one of those that hates to drag yesterdays problems into a new day, maybe we all are to some extent...

PS. Case in point...I just noticed the "act of terror" thread was already off the main list. 49 people relegated to yesterdays news.

A lot of gun nuts use a logical fallacy to justify doing nothing. It's called the Nirvana fallacy.

Nirvana Fallacy
(also known as: perfect solution fallacy, perfectionist fallacy)

Description: Comparing a realistic solution with an idealized one, and dismissing or even discounting the realistic solution as a result of comparing to a “perfect world” or impossible standard. Ignoring the fact that improvements are often good enough reason.

Logical Form:

X is what we have.
Y is the perfect situation.
Therefore, X is not good enough.
Example #1:

What’s the point of making drinking illegal under the age of 21? Kids still manage to get alcohol.
Explanation: The goal in setting a minimum age for drinking is to deter underage drinking, not abolish it completely. Suggesting the law is fruitless based on its failure to abolish underage drinking completely, is fallacious.

Example #2:

What’s the point of living? We’re all going to die anyway.
Explanation: There is an implication that the goal of life is not dying. While that is certainly a worthwhile goal, many would argue that it is a bit empty on its own, creating this fallacy where one does not really exist.

Exception: Striving for perfection is not the same as the nirvana fallacy. Having a goal of perfection or near perfection, and working towards that goal, is admirable. However, giving up on the goal because perfection is not attained, despite major improvements being attained, is fallacious.

Tip: Sometimes good enough is really good enough.

Gun nuts see ANY regulation as a sinister attempt to take away their precious guns and herd them all into FEMA camps. They seem to think that their guns protect them from the government.

A silly idea, really. If the government really wanted to take away your guns (they don't), they have a lot of weaponry your little pea shooter just can't match.

I was reading an article about fear and the amygdala the other day...

"the amygdala takes all of the information from the part of your brain called the thalamus relay station and pushes it to the cortex - the part of the brain that helps you make decisions, like running out of a burning building. It's the amygdala that assigns meaning to that smoke alarm - so that you actually jump when you hear it. How? The amygdala assigns emotion, so that the alarm isn't just some buzzer from some appliance attached to the ceiling"

Apparently, most people don't have a lot of return circuits TO the amygdala that allows them to calm themselves down.

My spouse is one of those, and I'm guessing most males with Aspergers don't have them either. I can literally see his cortex become overloaded, because the body language changes and he gets quiet and puffy. This happens when I suggest maybe his gun obsession isn't healthy, for him, OR for me.

The rational part isn't there at all. All he knows is I'm trying to take something away that makes him feel powerful and special. He carries around a "Raging Judge" and really doesn't care that him having it makes ME feel unsafe. All he cares about is that he has his "penis equalizer" with him.

THIS is what you are dealing with when you suggest gun control laws.
You'd have to get past the fear to the rational part, and sadly- that's a part of the brain that most people have no use for....

Went to a redneck funeral today, and half the crowd was open carrying. One guy had extra clips that went halfway around his belt.

Weddin's, funerals, next -let's put a shooting range in baby hospitals so they can pull their first trigger minutes after birth.

Sat and watched a 6 yr old play a first person shooter game during the whole thing.

I really do wish I had the money, I'd move to one of those islands where the crime rate is a national joke...

I read about that years ago. Did you see the one where they sprayed known carcinogens on East St. Louis low income people in the 50's and 60's to study cancer rates?
That was in the news a few years ago, and yet no one I've asked about it has ever heard of it.

Absolute power and all that jazz... SMH

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

Let me just point out that the author left out vital relevant facts in the opinion piece. Doing that is known as cherry-picking. And whether you do that in the news, in discussion, in debate or in opinion, when you distort the facts, you've changed the nature of your communication into propaganda. But WE don't have any of THAT in the US, do we?!
