Congress hasn’t declared war since 1942 so there is no war right now. Okay, that makes no sense. Is it Nuclear Armageddon you are worried about? Hillary would be ignoring Global Warming if she blows up the World. What a terrible betrayal of the Democratic party platform! And Bernie would be angry at Hillary. Should she intentionally do that I absolutely would not vote for her a second time.

I'm voting 'sold down river'. I already mentioned it elsewhere - that once hillary becomes president every bit of government corruption and personal self-dealing will be swept under the rug. But you can bet the government will still be spying on us all.

LONDON (The Borowitz Report)—The theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking angered supporters of Donald J. Trump on Monday by responding to a question about the billionaire with a baffling array of long words.

Speaking to a television interviewer in London, Hawking called Trump “a demagogue who seems to appeal to the lowest common denominator,” a statement that many Trump supporters believed was intentionally designed to confuse them.

Moments after Hawking made the remark, Google reported a sharp increase in searches for the terms “demagogue,” “denominator,” and “Stephen Hawking.”

“For a so-called genius, this was an epic fail,” Trump’s campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, said. “If Professor Hawking wants to do some damage, maybe he should try talking in English next time.”

Later in the day, Hawking attempted to clarify his remark about the presumptive Republican Presidential nominee, telling a reporter, “Trump bad man. Real bad man.”

1kiki, how would you react to a headline in today's Houston Post that reads: "FBI clears 1kiki in felony case

My reaction would be that the FBI falsely insinuated on Oct 28th that 1kiki was a criminal. And there is evidence out of the mouth Giuliani and Kallstrom that friends of the Trump campaign inside the FBI pushed FBI director to make that false insinuation that 1kiki is a crook.

I can't talk to drycleaner about the brown stains on the seat of Trump's pants because of a nondisclosure agreement Trump's lawyers had the drycleaner sign.

It's the "progressives" here who love authoritarianism. They love TBTB. They love everyplace else except the USA, and everyone else except Americans. They conflate our American interests with the world. They're so sorry about the poor illegal immigrant felons, and the poor Libyans, they think they MUST do "something" abroad without ever thinking about what to do at home.

And they spend ENDLESS amounts of time bitching about Putin and kvetching about Russia... yanno, online, the only people who spend as much time talking about Russia are Russians!

These self-proclaimed progressives are deeply interested in what everyone else does, and see fit to intervene in the entire world without trying to even identify the problems here.

They can't figure out what AMERICA'S INTERESTS ARE, and they dare not even try to answer the question because it might bring that topic into view. They love - or at least tolerate- the corruption that Big Money brings. They lie, to themselves and consequently to everyone else. "Business as usual" and "We are special" are their mottoes.

I have never seen as hidebound, moralistic, and nasty bunch of "believers" as these socalled "progressives" except the neocons.

They are UNPRINCIPLED. Everything is relativism and convenience. That is why they NEVER discuss reality or causation. And they will never, but NEVER, look at the horror that their ideology has wrought, or where it will yet lead.

For the arithmetically challenged, 51 percent of Trump's statement were categorically false, compared to 13 percent of Clinton's.

The only reason I'm putting this up is because we've all gotten so bored with it. Trump lies so consistently and so baldly that we barely even notice it anymore unless he says something truly outrageous—with the bar for "outrageous" moving upward all the time. Trump has ushered in an era of not merely exaggerating or cherry picking or twisting or evading. He just says anything he wants, and his followers buy it. Hey Trump followers, this isn't normal, and you shouldn't accept it as normal.

Signym, nobody here but maybe 1kiki thinks you are an authentic citizen of the USA, or even a real person. That is why you get accused of being a Russian troll. You just write things for affect. Trump does the same, but we know he is real. You can't convince anybody you're anything but a fake.

If you are real, my apologies. Please get help from your local mental health providers.

The real people I know supporting Trump do it for real reasons that are perfectly understandable. I just don't share their values. You, on the other hand, give reasons that nobody real could believe, other than the mentally ill. You're terrible at political philosophy and abstract reasoning. I even understand why Trump is doing what he does. He has reasons to be who he is. Again, I just don't share his values. I find him forgivable. You are just loathsome. Trump I simple don't want to be President, but I can live with him. You will still be yourself, whoever the hell you really are, no matter whether Trump wins or loses tomorrow. Too bad for you.

As as for your propensity to lie, do you mean THIS headline, second?

On Oct 29th the FBI joined the Trump campaign for President. On Nov 6th the FBI stopped campaigning for Trump. To make that concrete for 1kiki:

Would you have praised the FBI for rekindling a controversy involving a felony that you, 1kiki, was accused of only for the FBI to say "Never mind" on Nov 6th? By rekindling I mean the FBI goes to 1kiki’s workplace, while 1kiki is there, and gathers all co-workers and bosses to tell them you might have committed a felony. The FBI goes to 1kiki’s neighborhood, while 1kiki is there, and gathers all 1kiki’s neighbors to tell them you might have committed a felony. Is that normal for the FBI? No. It is not normal for the FBI to do the same to Hillary.

Do you remember this story from Oct 29th?
Quote:

The FBI rattled the presidential race Friday by announcing it is again probing emails that might be related to her private server, rekindling a politically damaging controversy for Clinton and reinvigorating Republicans scrambling to hold on to congressional seats.

Because Comey had told Congress that the FBI had finished investigating Clinton’s server, he felt he needed to let lawmakers know that agents were looking into the case again in light of the recent discovery, the official said.

More defensible would have been the FBI waiting until yesterday to either drop a bombshell that Hillary would be indicted or else the FBI silently finishes reading Wienergate emails and announces nothing publicly about even the existence of the emails.

Just as a quick recap:

1) Trump built his early political notoriety via “birtherism,” explicitly working to undermine the legitimacy of our elected President.

2) He has continually vilified immigrants and foreigners generally, promoting an us-against-them mentality between people of different races and ethnicities.

3) He has pledged to violate the Constitutional principle of freedom of religion, from banning Muslims from entering the country to tracking ones that are here.

4) His campaign, and the Republican party more generally, has openly engaged in suppressing the vote from groups unlikely to support him. This is not a list of “why Donald Trump is a bad person who is disastrously unqualified for the Presidency”; that would be much longer. Rather, I wanted to highlight features of the campaign that are specifically attacks on (small-“d”) democratic norms and values. The assumptions, often unspoken, by which legitimate political opponents have generally agreed to operate by over the course of the last two centuries and more.

Democracy is a curious and fragile thing. It’s not just “majority rules”; crucial to the project are the ideas that (1) minority rights are still respected, and (2) in return, losing minorities respect electoral outcomes. It’s the second of these that is under siege at the moment. Since the time of the Federalist Papers, it’s been understood that democracy is an attempt to provide common self-rule for people who don’t agree on everything, but who at least share the common values of democracy itself. Having strong, even extremely passionate, political disagreements is inevitable in a democratic system. The question is whether we cast those with whom we disagree as enemies, traitors, and cheaters who must be opposed in every measure at every turn; or as partners in a grand project with whom we can fiercely disagree and yet still work with.

You're still deeply confused. I suggest you look up the legal definition of 'accuse'.

eta - to help you out - to be accused of something means you've been charged with a crime - usually after being arrested.

I TOLD YOU SO will be very sweet indeed, and repeated often.

Extremely well put, argued and expressed. To the point, concise and poignant.
This is about Democracy (with a capital D) and not a dictatorship. Every 4 years we elect a new president, but we also vote for representatives to help run the country. In recent years, ever since Obama has won the office, that has been distorted to a high degree, because of a "handful" of dissidents who refuse to accept a man, a highly educated man, can efficiently run the country merely because he's a Democrat.

I watched Trump's rally tonight in Michigan, and he stated that he was running for the presidency to "restore" the country to greatness. That implies that we are no longer great. Since when, exactly!? He also said something that was surprising, not so much that he thought it, but that he said it out loud...and I'm paraphrasing:

He said that there would be one America with one religion and one people.

Now that's scary.

True. Say nothing until such time as you have damning evidence (this goes for any government agency or public servant). And if you're going to reveal that there's an investigation taking place, then more info regarding the evidence should be subsequently released. End of story.

Signym, on Hillary and Trump you have become unhinged from reality. Seek help from Glenn Beck. After 8 years where none of his daily predictions ever came true about future disasters caused by Democrats, Glenn Beck had this to say about Trump:

Glenn Beck told a story of Trump summoning him to a guest room at Mar-a-Lago; Trump then telephoned him from an adjacent room. “We had this weird, almost Howard Hughes-like conversation,” Beck said. He left convinced that Trump was nuts. “This guy is dangerously unhinged,” he said. “And, for all the things people have said about me over the years, I should be able to spot Dangerously Unhinged.”

Beck went on, “What’s most tragic about this is us. We have, as a culture, embraced the bad guys. I love Tony Soprano. But, when a Tony Soprano shows up in your life, you don’t love him so much.”

“We’ve made everything into a game show,” he said, “and now we’re reaping the consequences of it.”

www.newyorker.com/magazine/2016/11/14/glenn-beck-tries-out-decency

From his professional experience on FOX, the game show reference was Glenn Beck being sadly aware of sophists saying anything, even flat lies, to win the game they are playing on TV or radio or fireflyfans.net.

I don’t address your concerns because I think you are like Glenn Beck before he tried to be a decent person. He was making predictions that never came true and warning of conspiracies to overthrow Democracy that never happened, no matter how many years passed. After many years of being wrong, Glenn Beck slowly began to notice his errors. Too bad for you not having Glenn Beck’s big audience to tell you a million times that you’re wrong.

The world is overreacting, anticipating disaster from Trump.

I was going to wait until after Trump gave his first State of the Union address before blaming him for all the woes in the world, but then I read:

"In years when a new president is inaugurated, the outgoing president may deliver a final State of the Union message, but none has done so since Jimmy Carter sent a written message in 1981. In 1953 and 1961, Congress received both a written State of the Union message from the outgoing president and a separate State of the Union speech by the incoming president. Since 1989, in recognition that the responsibility of reporting the State of the Union formally belongs to the president who held office during the past year, newly inaugurated Presidents have not officially called their first speech before Congress a "State of the Union" message."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/State_of_the_Union

In my opinion the blame falls on Trump starting on the day he is inaugurated. Until then, don't worry, be happy, stock-markets of the world because Trump might not keep any of his promises!

The Clintons in permanent political retirement will be good for the Democratic party.

Trump has a clever scheme to enrich bankers and himself. Wall St bankers really will fill garbage trucks and dump them into suckers' investment portfolios.

Trump’s pose as an anti-finance populist may be the single greatest trick of his entire campaign. Alongside some rhetoric, after all, Trump has an actual policy agenda that he is running on — and that agenda is incredibly favorable to bankers. He wants less regulation of banks and lower taxes for hedge fund and private equity managers.

And despite repeatedly attacking Clinton for her ties to Wall Street, Trump has close ties to the banking industry himself. His real estate empire has created a network of conflicts of interest (and opportunities to massively enrich himself) never before seen in an American president.

The American Brexit. In June, Britain voted to leave Europe. Yesterday, America voted to leave America.

Donald Trump came to the Detroit Economic Club, and stood there in front of the Ford Motor executives, and said, ‘If you close these factories as you’re planning to do in Detroit and build them in Mexico, I’m going to put a 35 percent tariff on those cars when you send them back, and nobody is going to buy them.’ It was an amazing thing to see. No politician, Republican or Democrat, had ever said anything like that to these executives. And it was music to the ears of people in Michigan and Ohio and Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. The Brexit states. … Whether Trump means it or not is kind of irrelevant because he’s saying the things to people who are hurting. And it’s why every beaten-down, nameless, forgotten working stiff, who used to be part of what was called the middle class, loves Trump. He is the human Molotov cocktail that they’ve been waiting for. The human hand grenade that they can legally throw into the system that stole their lives from them. And on Nov. 8, Election Day, although they’ve lost their jobs, although they’ve been foreclosed on by the bank, next came the divorce and now the wife and kids are gone, the car’s been repo’d, they haven’t had a real vacation in years, they’re stuck with the sh–ty Obamacare bronze plan, where you can’t even get a f—ing Percocet. They’ve essentially lost everything they had, except one thing. The one thing that doesn’t cost them a cent and is guaranteed to them by the American Constitution: the right to vote. They might be penniless, they might be homeless, they might be f—ed over and f—ed up, it doesn’t matter. Because it’s equalized on that day: a millionaire has the same number of votes as the person without a job, one. And there’s more of the former middle class than there are in the millionaire class.

So on Nov. 8, the dispossessed will walk into the voting booth, be handed a ballot, close the curtain, and take that lever or felt pen or touch screen and put a big f—ing ‘X’ in the box by the name of the man who has threatened to upend and overturn the very system that has ruined their lives: Donald J. Trump.

They see that the elites, who ruined their lives, hate Trump. Corporate America hates Trump. Wall Street hates Trump. The career politicians hate Trump. The media hates Trump – after they loved him, and created him, and now hate him. Thank you, media. The enemy of my enemy is who I’m voting for on Nov. 8. Yes, on Nov. 8, you: Joe Blow, Steve Blow, Bob Blow, Billy Blow, Billy Bob Blow, all the Blows get to go and blow up the whole goddamn system, because it’s your right. Trump’s election is going to be the biggest ‘f— you’ ever recorded in human history. And it will feel good. For a day. Maybe a week. Possibly a month. And then? Like the Brits, who wanted to send a message, so they voted to leave Europe. Only to find out, that if you voted to leave Europe, you actually have to leave Europe. And now they regret it. All the Ohioans, Pennsylvanians, Michiganders, and Wisconsinites of Middle England, right? They all voted to leave, and now they regret it – and over 4 million of them have signed a petition to have a do-over. They want another election. It ain’t going to happen. Because you used the ballot as an anger-management tool. And now you’re f—ed. And the rest of Europe? They’re like, ‘Bye, Felicia.’

So when the rightfully angry people of Ohio and Michigan and Pennsylvania and Wisconsin find out after a few months in office that President Trump wasn’t going to do a damn thing for them, it’ll be too late for them to do anything about it. But I get it. You wanted to send a message. You had righteous anger, and justifiable anger. Well, message sent. Good night, America. You just elected the last President of the United States.

Playing for laughs, a reference to a future Trump presidency was seen in the Back To The Future films.

In the second movie, released in 1989, the trilogy's villain, Biff Tannen, is seen becoming a successful businessman, which leads him to open a 27-story casino and, more pertinently, use his money to influence US politics.

Fans long believed that this was based on Trump - a theory which was confirmed by the film's writer last year.

Asked about the similarities between Tannen and Trump, Bob Gale told The Daily Beast: "We thought about it when we made the movie."

Gale highlighted one scene in particular that appeared to allude to Trump.

"There's a scene where Marty confronts Biff in his office and there's a huge portrait of Biff on the wall behind Biff, and there's one moment where Biff kind of stands up and he takes exactly the same pose as the portrait," he said.

In the movie, Biff uses the profits from his casino to shake up the Republican Party, before eventually assuming political power himself. He is later seen transforming California's Hill Valley into a town riddled with crime and corruption.

Trump was elected president 27 years after Back To The Future Part II was released.

Politicians make wild promises they couldn’t possibly keep before retracting statements as soon as they are safely installed in office (such as Trump removing references to banning all Muslims from coming into the US off his website).

Donald Trump statement on banning Muslims from US disappears from his website

Exclusive: Passage posted on 7 December 2015 mysteriously vanishes late on day of election
www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/donald-trump-president-elect
ion-muslim-ban-immigrants-website-statement-removed-a7408466.html

On the same night that millions of votes were pouring in for the real estate mogul turned politician, the page linking to his December 2015 statement was removed.

The page now redirects to a page encouraging voters to donate to his campaign.

The page was available on the morning of the election on 8 November, according to online caches studied by The Independent. But the redirect was added later the same night.

Caches like the Wayback Machine work by crawling websites intermittently and making a copy of what it finds there. As such, it is not possible to say exactly what time the redirect was added, but only that the change had been made between those two times it was crawled.

Mr Trump was widely condemned for his call shortly after the terrorist attacks in Paris in November 2015 to temporarily ban all Muslims from entering the country until he figured out "what the hell was going on".

The Republican and his allies have consistently defended the ban, insisting the measure was about Americans’ "safety" and not about discriminating against religion. Videos and speeches defending the ban remain on the Trump campaign website.

The Trump campaign could not be immediately contacted.

It would not be the first time the Trump team has scrubbed pages from its websites.

After speculation rose that Melania Trump did not not complete her university degree, her biography page was taken down and redirected to the homepage for Mr Trump’s golf course.

Islamist extremists welcome Trump's victory
by Kareem Shaheen Thursday 10 November 2016 15.45 EST

Abdullah al-Muhaisny, a key authority among radical circles in Syria, says Trump presidency will sow division and expose west’s hatred of Muslims

Jihadis have welcomed Donald Trump’s surprise victory in the American presidential race, saying his election would sow greater division and expose what they described as the hatred and racism of the west towards Muslims.

The endorsement of the election result by extreme Islamist figures highlighted fears that Trump’s divisive rhetoric and call to ban Muslims from entering the US could empower radicals who have argued that the west seeks Islam’s destruction and is at war with its adherents.

The idea has been central to Islamic State propaganda – at its height the terror group called on Muslims to abandon life abroad and flock to the territories it controls or risk indignity and oppression in western societies.

“Trump’s victory is an important step towards the victory of the Sunnis,” said Abdullah al-Muhaisny, a key authority among radical circles in Syria, who is believed by the US to be in league with al-Qaida.

“We have long tried to explain that the fight is not against terrorism, but against the Sunnis, and the mujahideen are just the frontline,” he added in a series of tweets on Thursday. “The American strategy will not change much, what has changed is that the war is open and not secret, and that is a good thing.”

Muhaisny said Trump’s victory will lay the groundwork for “bloody battles and great chaos,” saying he hoped the president-elect’s strategy of “exclusion and crushing opponents” will sow greater division in America.

Abu Muhammad al-Maqdisi, a key intellectual figure in al-Qaida who once shared a cell with Isis founder Abu Mus’ab al-Zarqawi, said he hoped Trump’s election would herald America’s ruin.

“Trump reveals the real mentality of the Americans and their racism towards Muslims and Arabs and everything,” he said in a tweet. “He only reveals what his predecessors have kept hidden.”

Rita Katz, the director of Site Intelligence, an organisation that tracks jihadi chatter on social media and online forums, said militants were predicting that Trump’s election would unite the ranks of jihadis and expose latent hatred towards Muslims.

Katz tweeted: “Pro-#ISIS & #Jihadis say they “prefer” #Trump to #Clinton because he is “telling Muslims what half of America thinks of them.”

Hamza Caribi, who runs a Twitter account affiliated with Jabhat Fateh al-Sham, the former al-Qaida wing in Syria, said Trump proved the failure of democracy. “From this day forward we will no longer need videos explaining the west’s plots,” he said. “We will only need to retweet what Trump says.”

In September, the U.S. Justice Department proposed that Deutsche Bank AG pay $14 billion to settle a set of high-profile mortgage-securities probes stemming from the financial crisis.

That fine is unlikely to ever be imposed, now that one of Deutsche Bank’s biggest borrowers – Trump – will soon be sitting in the White House.

Trump ran on protecting Social Security but his transition team includes privatizers.

At the Miami GOP presidential debate in March, he said he would “do everything within my power not to touch Social Security, to leave it the way it is; to make this country rich again.” In August, his campaign told CNNMoney that “We will not cut Medicare or Social Security benefits, but protect them both.”

But two of the people said to be helming the president-elect’s Social Security Administration (SSA) transition team have a record of hostility to the program:

1) Mike Korbey is a long-time right-wing activist who has argued incorrectly that Social Security is “broken and bankrupt.” He worked for an organization called United Seniors Association, a sort of conservative counterpart to the AARP, that pushed for George W. Bush’s Social Security privatization scheme — and was hired by Bush to help tout his failed push for changes.

2) Dorcas Hardy, a Reagan administration SSA veteran, has also called for privatizing the program — in 1995, she took part in a press conference at the libertarian Cato Institute to advocate for that idea.

Trump campaigned against lobbyists. Now they’re on his transition team.

After campaigned against the corrupt power of special interests, he is filling his transition team with the very same people he has complained have too much clout in Washington: corporate consultants and lobbyists:

1) Jeffrey Eisenach, a consultant who has worked for years on behalf of Verizon and other telecommunications clients, is the head of the team that is helping to pick staff members at the Federal Communications Commission.

2) Michael Catanzaro, a lobbyist whose clients include Devon Energy and Encana Oil and Gas, holds the “energy independence” portfolio. Mr. Catanzaro’s client list is a who’s who of major corporate players.

3) Michael Torrey, a lobbyist who runs a firm that has earned millions of dollars helping food industry players such as the American Beverage Association and the dairy giant Dean Foods, is helping set up the new team at the Department of Agriculture.

4) Michael McKenna, another lobbyist helping to pick key administration officials who will oversee energy policy, has a client list that this year has included the Southern Company, one of the most vocal critics of efforts to prevent climate change by putting limits on emissions from coal-burning power plants.

5) Martin Whitmer is overseeing “transportation and infrastructure” for the Trump transition. He is the chairman of a Washington law firm whose lobbying clients include the Association of American Railroads and the National Asphalt Pavement Association.

6) David Malpass, the former chief economist at Bear Stearns, the Wall Street investment bank that collapsed during the 2008 financial crisis, is overseeing the “economic issues” portfolio of the transition, as well as operations at the Treasury Department. Mr. Malpass now runs a firm called Encima Global, which sells economic research to institutional investors and corporate clients.

7) Dan DiMicco, a former chief executive of the steelmaking company Nucor, who now serves on the board of directors of Duke Energy, is heading the transition team for the Office of the United States Trade Representative.

Trump’s spokeswoman, Hope Hicks, declined a request for comment, as did nearly a dozen corporate executives, consultants and lobbyists serving on his transition team, which was outlined in a list distributed widely in Washington on Thursday.

One of the reasons you had such anger among voters is people rigging the system, gaming the system. This represents more of the same. Voters responded to Trump’s vow to restore the voices of forgotten people, ones drowned out by big business and Wall Street.

Since when did personal attacks require creativity or even accuracy? I mean, hell, you and THUGR don't take any prizes for either one! And it's not like you didn't try enough times!

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

NOW THAT TRUMP IS PRESIDENT

the immediate threat of neo-CON run government, spy agencies and military working in lockstep is gone. Not for good, because the threat won't be gone until the neo-CONS are purged, but there won't be a critical mass of them brought together in the near future.

NOW is the time for progressives and democratic socialists, environmentalists and freedom-lovers, to come together and leave the rotting husk of the 'democratic' party behind.

I've mentioned before that Trump needs to fire a lot of people, starting with all of those America-hating neocons who "put their name out there" for the future Hitlery admin (HAHAHAHAHA!) by saying this like "we need more war in Syria". Fortunately, since this was all public, Trump and his advisors have all of their names. I hope he's as good as saying "you're fired" in the WH as he is on TV.

But yanno, firing somebody doesn't really end their activities, so I think that some of them should probably be investigated for anti-American activities, and some of the State Department people should be made Ambassador to Antarctica or some such.

Have you looked at Trump's cabinet? All the names are very familiar. You might not think these new Trump people are better than Obama's old people.
