Rocked the test with a 94%.

I'm probably not the Highest score ever, but I've been told by admin that I'm the highest score that ever went through their accelerated program at Purdue.

Not too shabby since I didn't know a single thing about Mechanics in Janurary and knew very little about Electronics before I started, let alone the skills to automate them that I know now.

Once I get that awesome job, I'm REALLY going to laugh at how much money is spent on college today and how there aren't any jobs for the millions of kids learning bullshit that end up folding clothes for Old Navy with that 4 years of college debt.....

It's really not funny.

My condolences.....

Passed Industrial Electricity 2 yesterday...

I didn't think I had a chance in hell since I only scored a 75% on the Level 1 test, when I got at least 90% on the other two tests....

This was the most FUN I've ever had taking a test!!!!

At least 50% of it was wiring diagrams, starting off VERY simple to pretty complex. By the end, some of these diagrams were so large you had to scroll down to see all of them, and they had 4 paragraphs explaining the process they were controlling....

After the explanation, you were asked questions like "if limit switch 2 was stuck, what negative impact would that have on the system", or if "bad situation A was happening, and the voltages tested on points A,B,C and D were these, what is most likely the malfunctioning part".....

I was telling my Step-Dad how much I enjoyed this test and I wished there was more stuff like this out there to do.

He said to me, "You're going to have plenty of it to work on soon".

Yeah.... I guess I will, huh??!!!!!

Kaylee would have LOVED this program. :)

Do Right, Be Right. :)

I did a PLC course years ago, and loved it.

There was one point where we had to write a program to control a miniature conveyor belt. The task was to operate the belt, which was carrying three items, and control relays to represent heaters and paint sprays. Sequence: belt moves until item breaks a detector beam. Heater relay triggered for 10 secs. Belt moves on until item breaks a second beam. Paint spray relay triggered for 15 secs. Belt moves backwards back to heater for 30 secs, to dry the paint. Belt finally moves on until item drops off into bin. Repeat for second & third items.

All was well with my program...until for some reason the belt didn't stop when the second item reached the heater! Not only that, it worked perfectly for the third item! What the hell?!

It wasn't until I realised the gorram thing was smaller than the other two and hence was passing under the beam of the detector that I figured out what to do about it...namely adjust the beam's height slightly. After that the whole thing worked perfectly. As a test, I changed the order of the items, putting the smaller one first and then third on a later run, and it still worked.

Gorram detector beams! :)

It's funny - you seem to spend a lot of time bagging on people who want to be more educated.

And then you congratulate yourself for gaining a little bit of education.

You seem to think education is only useful if it leads directly to monetary gain. Is there no information you think is useful in and of itself? What of beauty for beauty's sake? What of learning for the sake of learning?

And if you think learning is only useful if you use it for a better job, why on earth would you ever have wasted your time watching a show like Firefly? What job could it possibly get you?

I know, right?????

I can't wait to get into this field.

Spending every day putting together a 1,000 piece puzzle, and adjusting things for the Pinball Machine Tilt at the same time.

I never thought I would be excited about a job, ever.

Did you do ever anything with that knowledge, Anon?

Do Right, Be Right. :)

I don't bag on people who really want to be more educated. I bag on idiot kids who take out loans or do it on their parents dimes, and learn worthless "disciplines" that won't ever make a dime in today's America.

I never went to College, but I dated enough girls and went to enough College parties to know that they knew much more about keg-stands than any of the worthless subjects they were taking loans out for or their parents were paying for outright.

Don't even pretend to tell me that any more than 5% of the 20 year olds in college today are learning for learning's sake. In today's America, no more than 10% of them will find a job that will pay enough to ever hope to live a fruitful life while paying off those college debts.

I'm "bragging" about what I've done because it didn't cost me a Dime.

Nobody even ever asked for my credit card.

5 months of my life and time to learn a VERY accelerated Engineers course, and I'm the only person so far out of nearly 200 to get all 4 certifications. There were women in other classes, although there were no women in my class. Other than that, I learned along side of men who were white and black and Mexican and the youngest was 22 and the oldest was 58.

For 90% of people today, College is a complete waste of time and a SUPER waste of money and a Cross they will bear for the rest of their lives (if you didn't know, Bankrupcy doesn't eliminate college debts that were government loans).....

Why do I love Firefly?

My house is Serenity.

I have TONS of extra Engineering training now that didn't cost me a dime and my house is still paid for 100%.

I've made no more than $2,300 bucks this year, (150+ days and counting), including unemployment pay, and I'm breaking even.

My sis-in-law has to pay makes boatloads a year compared to me, but her monthly college debt payments are $1,700 a month. My property taxes are 1/3 of her monthly college debt payment.

Why do I laugh at people who get traditional schooling?

Because it's easy to. :)

No replies for days on this?

Surely somebody in the RWED has something negative to say about my sideways thinking?

I'm 10000000% in support of learning.

I am, however, in no way supportive of paying a bunch of rich idiots to teach a bunch of struggling an possibly poor idiots and leaving them with decades worth of College Government Debt.

Get certified....

NPR has people talking all the time about how they don't know who to hire based off of meaningless college degrees. They hire people who are complete dumbasses, even though they have a degree.

Get into a program like I did. Study hard and get the certs.

You might not start off making as much money as you would with a full degree, but you get your foot in the door. If you have an industrious bone in your body, that's all you need. I have more than doubled my pretty awesome starting pay twice in my life at a good company that gave vacation and 401k benefits on top of health insurance.

College isn't for idiots.... College is just what everyone is expected to do now.

College is Bullshit....

It's a TON of money upfront, with very little payoff on the back end for most diciplines.

I, for one, would resent how much I was expected to pay back when I got into the Real World and had to pay those bills.

By all means... learn to your heart's content. Learn at least one new word every day. Do things that scare you. Always test yourself.

I don't see any reason why you need to enslave yourself to debts to somebody else to do any one of those things.

Good luck to you and yours.

And.... Happy Learning :)
