I don't know if I posted here before about a program at a local University that was offered to people with poverty wages, or who have recently been laid off from a very good paying job. I feel a deep NEED to let people know that these programs exist and that (at least this one) isn't a scam.

One of the guys at work had recently enrolled for actual fall classes there, but he had information on a free program that he would have applied for if he didn't. This was back in July, and I forgot that I had even done it. Luckily, I check my Junk mail on occasion and found a reply in mid November about the required Math Exam we need to pass before being accepted. (It was explained to me that even if you didn't pass the test you were still in the course, you just had to attend a free remedial math course before you began the program).

This course is a basic introduction to EVERYTHING that is Mechatronics.

It's a 21 week crash course on everything from blueprint reading, CAD designing, mechanical comprehension, AC/DC electric and programmable logic controllers. After the course, you are offered a 4 week, unpaid internship at one of the companies they've partnered with. There hasn't been talk about what percentage of people get jobs after these internships and how much they get paid, but they say that most people walk out of this class with a Career Path and I'm sure it starts out at a hell of a lot more than part-time retail Limbo.

I'm only nearly 2 weeks into it and it's easily one of the best things I've ever done in my life.

If you care about somebody you know that is smart and just stuck in some BS rut, consider doing a little bit of research or even picking up the phone and speaking to one of the administrators of local universities or even local Jr Colleges and seeing if anything like this is available in your area. I would never have believed it was true until I'm doing it.

Hell..... Every time I print something I get a little pop up window letting me know that it will cost me $0.04. We all even got a free $20.00 added to each of our ID's which should easily cover all of our classroom needs while also ensuring that we're not printing novels we torrented to read at home ;)

When I get that first paycheck, I'm taking the guy who hooked me up with this program out for some Outback Steakhouse!!!!!

Good luck in your search if you look into it.

Help is out there for those who seek it. :)

Thanks MD. :)

I actually ran into the guy who recommended this to me 8 months ago. I haven't worked with him now for months and we must have talked in the hallway for over a half hour about work changes and our college experiences so far. He's actually a REAL student at the college now, and that's why he didn't sign up for this program. We've exchanged numbers ages ago, but he never called me and after my old cell shorted out and I lost my numbers I never got it again.

I watched this guy lose 100lbs while I worked with him. He rode his bike everyday nearly 20 miles round trip for work and only ate vegetable type stuff on breaks. I've heard that he was easily 500lbs when he started the job. I couldn't imagine he's a pound over 280 right now.

He's like the Black Andre the Giant from the Princess Bride with glasses. I've never seen him lose his temper and since I'm slightly hard of hearing I have to say "what" a lot to him if he's not right next to me talking because he's so soft spoken. At the same time, he could pick up your average person and throw them 10 feet without winding up.

I'm glad he's on my side. :)

He just got his GED last year and is going to school to become a lawyer. Awesome.

I hope he goes through with it.

I just let another friend from work know about this and he signed up. He probably won't hear from them for 6 months or so, but I told him that I could probably get him at least an update before them. I'm sure I can't actually bump his name up the list or anything, but I've built up enough rapport where I think I can find out legitimately how long he would have to wait to expect the initial contact email.

Don't stay any place treading water for long. 3 years later, you're still treading water just fine, but you're 3 years older and it shows.

Just the calibur of people I surround myself with now is enough to all but quit my old job. I will never quit a job but they love me and will make it work.

I got my flaws, but why would I ever lie?

Boom Baby.......

Dominated my first Certification Exam.

I know that I can do this for myself with only maximal effort one week before the exam. What could be done if I coordinate teamwork and we all pass the second time around?

Yeah.... I'm going to pass all 4 of them. Yawn....

What else can we do?
