No need for that when they're all set free and can be what they want to be.

The only problem with the "Beck Test" is that Women left wanting for human skills are left without a compass.

Bummer.

I know, right?

You know anything else by Beck, Brenda? I was never on the Beck-Train growing up, but there are quite a few awesome songs he made in my youth and was happy to see him continue that streak. Here's hoping he makes albums the next 20 years that are just as good.

I hate to keep posting, but I'm bored now, not exactly focusing my attention on extra credit homework for class.....

I was just thinking that if you never heard of Beck's Summer Girl, you may not be very familiar with The Gorillaz either. Although other influences from my youth are obvious, I think there is a very strong unspoken Beck affilliation going on there overall.

What do you think?

I personally hate The Gorillaz video for "It's Dare".

I think it's because my tenuous relationship with the movie Brazil.

If you want to check out the actual MTV video, feel free to youtube it. I just wanted to show you another song I thought was awesome without the visual potentially detracting from the audio experience.

I prefer more bare mid drifts and less bald fat guys in my music videos, but the song is awesome anyway. ;)

Do Right, Be Right. :)

EDIT: I know that common knowledge says that they say "Jump with the move and move it. Jump back and forth".

I don't agree. There are times when I think the lyric says "Jump in the Modern Movie, jump back and forth. Feel like you were there yourself."

If you actually listen to the lyrics, and watch the insane video, I think my lyrics fit better. I don't see how my proposal is any less rediculous than jumping with the moon and moving it. ;)

Note to self........

Remember to ask yourself more about how vast multiple lyrics in this song are seemingly purposefully unintelligible, and easily mistranslated.

Do they say "Never Did No Harm"?. Do they say "Never get no High"?.

At the end of the day, I'm entirely convinced that "Dare" is just "D'are", AKA "There", and everything that is being sung in this song is about pointing the women down "there".

Tell me I'm wrong.

And more importantly, just try to tell me that you don't like the song even though you know it now. ;)

I don't watch the news, and I certainly don't watch the Grammys or pay attention to any of that, but on the net the other day I heard some article about "Good thing Kanye didn't Kanye himself for Beck's award", or something like that.

I'm just wondering, have you heard about Beck outside of the RWED in the last week?

Wow.... Never read anything about it now because I was curious.... Did you see any of this or did you know about it?

Beck handled the jab like a champion. "I was just so excited he was coming up," he told US Weekly during the Universal Music Group after-party. "[West] deserves to be onstage as much as anybody. How many great records has he put out in the last five years, right?" The alt-rock icon also confirmed he wasn't offended by the rapper's post-Grammy comments: "I thought she was going to win. Come on, she's Beyonce! . . . You can't please everybody, man. I still love [West] and think he's genius. I aspire to do what he does."

Elsewhere in his Grammy night rant, West lashed out at the awards ceremony as a whole. "At this point, we tired of it!" he said. "Because what happens is, when you keep on diminishing art and not respecting the craft and smacking people in the face after they deliver monumental feats of music, you're disrespectful to inspiration. And we as musicians have to inspire people who go to work every day and listen to that Beyoncé album, and they feel like it takes them to another place. Then they do this whole promotional event, and they'll run the music over somebody's speech, an artist, because they want commercial advertising. No, we not playing with them no more."

My opinions are that Kanye is in a bubble and that's where he's speaking from. I understand that in his perfect world only Black people would win Grammys and Emmys, and the real world is far from a perfect world.

You can't just FORCE it though if it isn't right.

I honestly have never heard a new song from each of their albums that were nominated. I am officially old now.

That being said, I can't give any real opinions about who the better artist was. That also being said, what I can tell you is that my brother will vouch for me when I showed him Beyonce's "Put a Ring on it" video and told him "This is the template that every music video should aspire to" many months before Kanye made Taylor Swift cry on national television.

I think I need to give this album a listen. I've always loved Beck, but I haven't personally heard anything new he's done in about a decade. If he won the Grammy's, it can't be BS... :)

Here was what I believe the first song that America got to see Beck in all his lanky white-boy glory....

I can't imagine why you wouldn't like it just by hearing it, but by chance you don't, listen to the lyrics and listen to it again. ;)

Funny thing was... It wasn't until I was in my mid 20s talking to somebody at work with high speed internet that I looked up what "Soy um perdedore" means. Turns out that in very un-ironic fashion it means, literally "I'm a loser". It just makes a great background harmony for a chorus when it's just gibberish to your intended audience. ;)

It's pretty funny when Beck says "I aspire to do what he does" about Kanye. I want to believe it's just a Playa named Beck always saying the right thing, but that seemed a little too ass-kissy to me.

Beck's not the Rolling Stones, but you'd be hard pressed to ever get 10% of the black population in america to ever say that Kanye was their "Rolling Stones" either.....

I'll just leave that up to Beck and his PR Gal.... Good for you for not only laughing and keeping it light, but saying all the right things about it too.

How the hell is any song on that Grammy winning album going to be able to top that performance?

Kanye is after my time too. I think one of the first time I realized I was old was when I heard this story was how sad it was that it was a new-rich black guy who made one of America's cutest cheerleaders cry on national TV.

Kanye's PR guy literally strangled himself that night. The only reason you never heard about it is because his new PR guy is that amazing.

I was of the high school Jr/Sr class that owned the Beatles Anthology from Sam Goody before the internet reared it's ugly head. ;)

Best songs....

I love The Beatles. I love Elton John. Never really got Kiss, but Hotel California is my own personal favorite song and I used to sing it Karaoke. Don't think I could hit the high points anymore, but those were good times.

I pretty much can't stand anything McCartney did after the Beatles besides Hey Jude and he made the worst Christmas song ever while John Lennon somehow made the best Christmas song ever with Yoko playing him like a puppet. I even loved Harrison's stuff Post Beatles, but as infectiously cute as Paul was, like a living Spongebob Squarepants, "Silly Love Songs" is the 2nd worst recorded song ever made, just barely "Having a Wonderful Christmas Time". WTF paul?

Billy Joel was probably in my top 3 of songs I first remember loving growing up. I can think "Hungry Like the Wolf", "Hard for Me to say I'm Sorry" and "Uptown Girl" as the songs that made me love the Rock and Roll back in 1983 or so.

My favorite Billy Joel song today is a lot different, but I actually like a lot of his stuff. He was the lovable loser of his time, kind of like Rob Schnieder in his Deuce/Animal hey day.

Matter of Trust is awesome. I've never delved into the "B Side" of Billy Joel, but I think of the A Side stuff it was the song sung with the most conviciton.

The lyrics are awesome, he wrote them (as far as I know) and he's playing piano the whole time while singing awesome. It's not the happiest song in the world, but it's not the saddest either. It is what it is.

Somehow Billy Joel could make paint drying on the walls seem like Monster Truck Rally that everyone should be a part of.

Do you remember this one, Brenda?

Sorry for taking two turns. You can take two now if you'd like ;)

I never heard of Barton Hollow Wish. I bet I've heard it before growing up and never pinned a name to it until you pinned it down.

I'd listen now, but I'm kinda on a billy joel trip now. :)

The really funny thing about all of this is that I can easily convert any excitement one holds as potential speed/torque differential.

If you asked me a question about this topic 2 months ago, you might as well have pinned pink wings to my back.
