So, what accent do you think that was? Sounds British to me.

And another, advising on unexploded ordinance

0:29

Again, name that accent! Ozzie? Afrikans?

Yeah, it's hard to tell. But I went to university with a lot of people from NYC and NJ, I think I've heard every possible accent from "the boroughs", and I'm pretty sure it's not any of those. It doesn't sound like Boston or anywhere in the NE either. Maybe our international contingent can help out!

I think I'm being thrown by the phrase ' out of my face ', which I generally associate w/ New Yorkers.

He did say 'please', and NYer's never say THAT !

The accents in the link you post do not show they are from America or Britain or from anywhere other than where they are now. Not even close. Nor does the first video you post. It is someone who is rushing to get somewhere and it is brief. The fact that you think it worthy of posting as though it is uncovering facts shows your desperation to point west. Even if this is someone from the west it further proves the point that you search relentlessly to find pro-Russian agenda. Thousands of Russians poured into Crimea and Eastern Ukraine along with tanks and other armaments which you repeatedly denied despite all the evidence. This really makes me laugh.

What I find most interesting is that you watched the first video you posted to the point where we hear the phrase out of my face, out of my face please. Aside from this, the rest of the posted video is in Russian I believe, and without subtitles. This little bit of English doesn’t show up until 3:30 into the video. I did not have a clue as to what was going on. Why would you be watching this unless you understood what was being said? I think this sums up what we here have been saying about you and 1kiki.

Russian trolls

Further, I don't mind poking you a bit SIG once in a while for fun, but to those who continually post back and forth with you again I will ask why. Why do you feel the need to argue with those who are posting only lies and propaganda? Why not create substantive threads if you have the desire to converse? You have the power to sublative their platform of spreading lies.

I've had a long time interest in accents, dialects and figuring out from where people come , just by how they speak.

Most don't peg me from where I come correctly, however.

The first one I think British, the second one I think is not English first language. If I were to hazard a guess I would say a Scandinavian who speaks English very well.

A fun game, but not sure what the point of it is - we know that foreigners are enlisted in Ukraine's volunteer battalions.

Geezer, the broadcast is Ukrainian, not Russian. The woman is a Ukrainian reporter "on the scene" in Mariupol. The soldier that she questioned was dressed in Ukrainian fatigues; so there would be no reason or way to pick him out specifically. Kiev has no interest in dubbing-in an English-speaking soldier. And finally, if Kiev found out that its news broadcast was manipulated in some way, they could always disavow it after-the-fact. The idea that this was dubbed in for nefarious reasons is nonsense.

I'll give you this one. I tracked it back to MTV Mariupol (MTV.pics) and it reads the same.

Not sure that it signifies much, as many folks in Europe speak English. Might even be someone who repatriated years ago after living for an English-speaking country since childhood, who reverts to English under stress.

Hope you're not trying to conflate one person speaking English with the numbers of Russian "volunteers" captured by the Ukrainian forces or killed in combat, since that'd be a false equivalency.

Just more mystery really - she said she had/has a Polish father who had a harrowing experience in that part of the world, escaped imprisonment. Why he imparted a love of Russia on his daughter is not clear to me.

Yeah this video has played big on Russian media, and Putin himself has spoken in line with it, referring to the Ukrainian army as, absurdly, a NATO foreign legion. Interesting to see how in-step Russian media is with the official Kremlin talking points.

As for the psycho-analysis of Signy, like most Western communists she has a residual affection for Mother Russia... and she's never forgiven the US for winning the Cold War against them. I imagine the resurgence and re-assertiveness of Russia under Putin, along with its extreme anti-US rhetoric, has probably inspired and energised her in ways she's not felt since the Cold War... I bet she and Kiki have never felt so alive in years.

Because the US sucks, that's why! My message hasn't changed in 10 years*. But you were all OK with that when GWB was president. 1) No one denies that in many ways the US sucks. This is well documented, though you choose not to see it.
2) The US sucking does not mean that Russia does not suck.
3) Discussion of the ways that Russian sucks is not a statement of the US's perfection, though you seem to take it as such.
4) Any attempt to discuss Russia with you turns immediately to "WAAAAH the US SUUUUCKS!" Inevitable conclusion: your hatred of the US is what you use to stay in denial of anything critical of your Beloved Mother Russia and Precious Pappa Putin.

Not an Australian that is for sure. I think it's a European. Maybe English is the lingua franca of a volunteer force made up of many nationalities.

The other idea I had - especially about the guy saying 'outa my face' - it's quite common for people to use American phrases even when they don't speak much English because of the prevalence of (cough*American Cultural Imperialism*cough) American movies and tv. something I've noticed in non English speaking countries - they shout phrases at you and one another, even in accent, like that guy.

I went to school with a bunch of Ukranian descended kids, and wouldn't be surprised if there was a contingency that went over to fight. Fiercely nationalistic and in that era loathed the soviets. But yeah, the ones of video were not Australians.

Yanno, when I said the same thing before our invasion of Afghanistan, (and I realize that this was before FFF.net on another board in a galaxy far away) people were convinced ....convinced, I tell you!.... that I was a Taliban or al Qaida sympathizer. SO convinced, they got the webmaster to give my particulars to the FBI, which got me followed for a couple of days.

Then, when I said the same before the invasion of Iraq, some people were convinced that I was a naive tool of liberalism, if not an out-and-out-supporter of Saddam Hussein.

Same thing with Sudan and Libya.

Now that I point out our meddling and imperial plans in Ukraine... oh, and Russia and China too... people think I'm fixated on Putin. Because the USA is behind the putsch in the Ukraine, and is using it as an excuse to whittle away at Russia, we can add Ukraine to our "failed state" belt notches. We're willing to fight Russia to the last Ukrainian solder and to the last hrvnya, it seems.

The reason why I say America sucks is because American sucks. We have turned more nations into failed states than any other empire in the world. That's not a record to be proud of. Maybe in ten years, when all of the emotion has died down somewhat, Ukraine will look very much like what it is: one more USA-sponsored implosion in a long chain of related implosions.

G, the USA has fomented "color revolutions" in many nations, Ukraine isn't the first.

Let me paint a picture:

Times were tense. A large number of western-leaning dissidents ... business-owners, shopkeepers, students, and other middle-upper class people ... came out in droves to protest. There were huge demonstrations aimed at toppling the government. Security forces were called out en masse. After weeks of demonstrations and riots, the head of government was being forced to flee.

Suddenly, shots rang out! Demonstrators fell to the ground, mortally wounded. The western government and western press blamed panicky government security forces for indiscriminate shooting.

However, there was a problem with the story. For those who bothered to look at the unedited videos, it was obvious that the shots weren't fired from the ground. Instead, they came from vantage points high overhead. Quite often, people were targeted who were -literally- just watching the demonstrations from a "safe" distance .... a middle-aged woman with dark hair, a young man walking in the opposite direction. Clearly, the shots came from snipers....

Select to view spoiler:

This was Venezuela, not Ukraine. The snipers were provocateurs, sent in by foreign interests to put the revolution on to "boil". However, unlike Ukraine, the government prevailed, and Hugo Chavez resumed power just a few days later.

The current government of Kiev blames the Yanukovich-controlled Berkut for the Maidan shooting. Most of the Berkut have fled, because- they say- they won't get a fair trial in Kiev. But one of the Berkut that Kiev managed to capture at least temporarily- Dmytro Sadovnyk, 38, a decorated commander, who was accused of ordering his men to fire on the crowds on the morning of Feb. 20. - is accused of being one of the masterminds. As key evidence, they show a picture of him on the scene holding a rifle with both hands. However, there's a problem with the evidence: Dmytro Sadovnyk doesn't have both hands- one of them was blown off by a grenade accident, it is impossible for him to be holding a rifle the way it was pictured. If he was at the scene, this doesn't prove it. This seems to be a sign of an investigation with a foregone conclusion. And what about those killings in Odessa? Surely, you don't expect the current government to honestly investigate its own radical elements, do you?

http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/10/10/us-ukraine-killings-probe-sp
ecial-report-idUSKCN0HZ0UH20141010

I could point to Syria, where Assad was rapidly accused by the west and by BELLINGCAT - the site you seem to like so much - of gassing his own people. Like MH17 and everything else about Ukraine, I was insisting on evidence. At the time, I said that the manufacture of sarin could be traced by its impurities and stabilizers, and that the shells themselves would be of standard manufacture if from armed forces, but consist of a hodgepdge of parts if from terrorists. People were being assholes to me than just as much as now. But they were wrong then, just as much as I believe they are wrong now. Ultimately, the UK found that the sarin was "kitchen grade" and Obama backed off of his plan to bomb Syria. That, and the Russian navy between us and Syria helped dissuade him. But you should know by now that TRUTH DOES NOT FORM OUR FOREIGN POLICY. In all of the years that I've been watching US foreign policy, the USA has NOT ONCE told the truth about ... well, anything. Not once. Why is this time any different?? http://www.foreignpolicyjournal.com/2014/05/06/seymour-hersh-links-tur
key-to-benghazi-syria-and-sarin
/

In any nation, you'll find disaffected people. The USA works with them in MANY nations. Our embassies and consulates aren't just places to run to if you've lost your passport, ceremonial way-stations and sinecures for political appointees, they're filled with dual-role staff ... cooks, secretaries, drivers, technical support, who are on the payroll of both State and CIA... and in hotspots they act as listening posts and as points of contact with groups on the ground who are willing to do the USA's bidding (at least for short-term projects). For example, the Embassy in Libya was helping run guns from Libya to Syria, that is the REAL story behind the Benghazi consulate.

The US Agency for International Development's (USAID) real job is as a CIA front. http://www.democracynow.org/2014/4/4/is_usaid_the_new_cia_agency And when real CIA officers and agents go abroad, it is with a cover story - usually, some sort of business development. In the case of Cuba, it was a guy who just wanted to develop a Cuban Twitter ... with an anti-government message. Also -remember Valerie Plame? Her cover was as an "energy consultant" for "Brewster-Jennings" (a CIA front firm).

Even some purportedly international neutral NGO's have close and continuing relations with the State Department. There are myriad avenues for our government to inject money into various USA-friendly foreign groups, and to turn up their anti-government activities when necessary. At this moment, the USA has anti-government groups on the back burner in almost every nation in the world. Pick a nation of even minor interest to us - Egypt? Brazil? Russia? Germany? Hungary? Venezuela? (still) - I'm sure there are USA-connected interests already in place.

I suspect that this is new to you, and it probably sounds somewhat fantastical. I can tell you it sounded fantastical to me when I first heard it many years ago, but over the decades I've seen far too much evidence to deny the reality. I can only point to a few examples, I hope you take the trouble to look into it yourself.

As far as the Ukrainians "defending themselves" .... the same could be said of those in east and south Ukraine. Kiev is the only party who can actually make peace. But they have to stop shelling the eastern and southern part of their country, and they have to negotiate with the disaffected brethren, but that's something they refuse to do. Instead, they start offensive after offensive. This last one was heralded by shelling to the east and south along almost the entire "line of contact" (right about the time Kiev lost the Donetsk Airport) and then claiming RUSSIAN INVASION! when the separatists fought back and gained ground. All I can think of is Will Smith's line in Men In Black: If you don't start nothin', there won't BE nothin'!

Kiev is picking fights, constantly. They refuse to enter into negotiations, and they're working hand-in-glove with NATO and the USA to draw Russia into war. And the USA is all-too happy to sanction Russia over stuff that Russia wasn't even involved in.

As far as the $$$ that the USA put into Ukraine??? The USA spent a TRILLION dollars on Iraq, and look at the clusterfuck we made of it! Clearly, money is no object. And well, hell, look at all of the $$ that Halliburton and (then-named) Blackwater made! I think we have dual purpose: if we can turn a nation into a profit center, so much the good for us. But if we can't, and we leave it a great smoking hole in the ground, at least we've shoveled money to our military contractors, and have denied it to anyone else. And we've made problems on someone else's border... something that they have to spend time and resources dealing with. That's why we were good with bombing Afghanistan into the stone age, and turning it into a nightmare of warlordism and jihadism. Mission accomplished!

Many pro-separatist analysts are predicting a "false front" so horrific as to lead to the complete dissolution of Ukraine, with direct street-to-street fighting across much of the nation. In their opinion, the Kiev army is so thoroughly diminished, and the aid that Kiev so desperately needs won't be forthcoming, that the only answer for the USA (since it can't win) is to have Ukraine burn itself to the ground, since the USA doesn't want Russia to "take over" a functioning nation either.

I can't say that I believe this scenario, but it's been mentioned so often by so many on the other side that it seems to be a real fear, so I thought to pass it along.

Since you weren't at any of these events, I can assume that we shouldn't take anything you say seriously?

BTW, we didn't choose to destroy Afghanistan or Iraq. We DID manage to turn them, and Sudan, and Libya, into failed states are are working mightily hard on Syria, Ukraine, Yemen, and Iran. Also, looking back a bit, we did break Yugoslavia apart. That's quite a record! One which you choose to ignore over and over and over... you manage to forget just a few more times than it happened!

Most unbelievable though, is you don't think Russia is capable of playing dirty to protect their own self-interests - amazing, total, purposeful ignorance. You have zero credibility when you show zero objectivity
Of course I'm aware that Russia can also play dirty tricks to further its interests. Did you not read the post which describes how Russia is using "war fervor" to re-nationalize all of its major holdings, and its banks, and remove western-leaning oligarchs from power, putting economic control back in the hands of the state? At some future date, when I'm more sure of what's going on, I'll tell you how I think Russia (and China) are trying to destroy the petrodollar.

I have ALSO provided at least a half-dozen times by now the list of aid that Russia is providing the separatists. I've done it so often I'm NOT going to bother repeating it, if you've been paying just the slightest bit of attention you should have it memorized by now. I also said that Russia has been very careful not to put Russian troops under Russian command in Ukraine. That seems to correlate very well what the commanding general of the Ukraine army said: No Russian troops, but individuals. I think my objectivity far outweighs yours. HOWEVER, Russia simply does not have the resources to bomb, invade, drone, and manipulate nearly every single nation on the planet. Sheer Russian resource limitations alone make the USA far and away the greater offender in that regard.

You would do well to pay more attention to what I'm posting, instead of ignoring whatever doesn't fit with your preconceived notions of what "should" and "shouldn't" happen.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

I have to say - Russia re-nationalizing business and industry - what a concept!

You mean multinationals don't get to torpedo nations for private profit?! Like the banks did to the US and EU? Hunh.

Of course! That's why I mainly post information, quotes, stories from journalists/reporters/citizens who are actually THERE.-G

This is too funny. Here's a quote I posted from a Russian professor who became nauseous when he went back to Russia, because of how it had changed and how people there were so consumed with Anti-Americanism.
BTW - when I posted it you ignored it, several times. (*see below).

But it gets better - here's what he said:

"...Almost everyone is infected, to various degrees, by this anti-Americanism," he says. "Surprisingly, even those who understand the inadmissibility of what Putin is doing in Ukraine don't miss an opportunity to recall the mistakes of U.S. administrations -- the bombing of Yugoslavia, the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq, and so on and so forth -- and say that America's crimes are much worse and more dangerous that Putin's mistakes."

It's you! You just did that! -G

Siggy: "BTW, we (the US) didn't choose to destroy Afghanistan or Iraq. We DID manage to turn them, and Sudan, and Libya, into failed states are are working mightily hard on Syria, Ukraine, Yemen, and Iran. Also, looking back a bit, we did break Yugoslavia apart. That's quite a record! "

Well, it happens to be true. Is there a problem with stating fact?

I'm glad to see you being aware that Russia can be just a shifty as the USA. That's possible progress.-G

I have been saying this for MONTHS. I guess it's progress that you finally recognized what I wrote!

You said you didn't necessarily agree with their opinion, but you can't really call that being critical.-G
So? Some of it sounds factual. Some of it sounds like hyperbole. I haven't had a chance to evaluate the article, therefore (unlike you) I haven't formed an opinion.

"No Russian troops, but individuals." Classic Russian double speak.-G

No, it's the truth. There are many people from many places in east and south Ukraine, aside from the people who live there: Chechens, Cossacks, Belorussians, Russians, French, even Americans. They're not ALL there at the behest of Russia!

Right back 'attcha. I responded to the first of those posts you said I missed - perhaps you missed it because you were ignoring whatever didn't fit with your preconceived notions of what "should" and "shouldn't" happen.
* (from above) You ignore a lot of what's posted in any Russia discussion in fact, I suspect much of it on purpose.

Well, when you go on and on and on about how Russia invaded Ukraine, it seems that you might want to respond on the topic of your choice.

Yeah. Because it's worked so well in Venezuela.

Most people are doing much better, though the rich are not quite as rich. If you only care about rich people, I suppose you could say it hasn't worked well.

Come on.

You're quoting Venezuelan data to prove that Venezuela's economy is working? That's like quoting RTV to prove that Russian isn't involved in the Ukrainian "revolution".

Everybody's data says the same thing, you old propagandist, you!

There are OTHER problems (production problems) with the Venezuelan economy, but poverty really has been reduced there.

But - how did we get from Mariupol to Venezuela???
