Free birth control does not control or reduce rape, STDs, rampant sex, or unwed motherhood.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

Free birth control does not control or reduce rape, STDs, rampant sex, or unwed motherhood.

Does free birth control INCREASE rape? Does it have anything at all to do with the number of rapes? Don't you think raising boys differently than they're raised now would be the answer? Why did you even mention rape?

Some birth control DOES reduce STDs. Did you not know that?

Do girls have rampant sex all by themselves? If boys are having sex with girls, is their sex rampant as well?

And now for the howler - did you not know that the very function of birth control is to prevent pregnancy? Did you not know that that in order to have motherhood, you must first have pregnancy? Did you not know that by reducing pregnancies, birth control DOES reduce the incidence of motherhood, unwed or otherwise?

SAGAN: We are releasing vast quantities of carbon dioxide, increasing the greenhouse effect. It may not take much to destabilize the Earth's climate, to convert this heaven, our only home in the cosmos, into a kind of hell.

I don't think you are understanding the concept, or ever will.

I don't hink (sic) you are understanding the concept, or ever will.

Then explain it. Because I'm pretty sure I know what you mean, I just don't think you can post it explicitly. But maybe I'm wrong. So go for it.

OK, y'all are getting pulled into this one.

Let's just go with "IT'S A START IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION" I'm happy with that. Pretending we can do anything about promiscuity in either gender is just a waste of time. They are TEENS. If I had gotten the opportunity I would've screwed anything not nailed down myself. Hormones are a hard thing to trump A horny 15 yr old would've helped humanity a couple thousand years ago, and it's gonna take a long loooong time to change that.

You can fix the other stuff on your own time, JSF... Good luck wit dat.

Birth control will lead to "rampant sex."

Just like every person who owns a fire extinguisher lights their house on fire, and every person who wears a seatbelt drives into a bridge abutment at the first opportunity.

Teenagers think about sex. Birth control doesn't increase the amount they think about sex. A sea monkey can make a teenager think about sex. So can a soap dish.

Denying the reality of that is the very illustration of stupidity. That's probably why Jewely went there.

Wow, it happened again!!

You're getting distracted by the trivial observation that a birth control program works. It always will, unless it is being sabotaged. The non-trivial point of the article is that the Colorado Department of Public Health is searching for new funding. Without it, the program will have to shut down. It has been funded privately by the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation. www.colorado.gov/pacific/cdphe/news/CDPHE-family-planning-funding

My very own trivial observation is that stingy state legislatures in the United States don't want to pay poor people. In 2014 the Colorado General Assembly was split with Democrats controlling the House and Republicans controlling the Senate. For the previous 40 years Republicans had complete control, which explains why this birth control program was privately funded. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Politics_of_Colorado#Colorado_General_As
sembly

The first article you mentioned was about a birth control program in St Louis, Missouri. http://ksn.com/2014/10/01/free-birth-control-lowers-teen-pregnancy-and
-abortions
/ Republicans control Missouri, which is why the same private foundation as in Colorado, the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation, was funding a birth control program. Republican legislatures have a hobby of sabotaging birth control.

And how do Republicans go about sabotaging legislation? Like this:
Quote:

State Republicans have refused to disclose who inserted the language into the budget legislation, which was approved late Thursday evening. Before dropping the provisions entirely, the governor's office said Friday it was considering changes to the proposals concerning public records law, but would not comment as to whether Gov. Walker was involved in the proposals in the first place.

Here's my proposal for transparency in legislating: every change in every law has to be attributed to someone. There's no virgin birth here. Someone wrote this language. Someone asked that it be inserted. Someone agreed to insert it. You have to be pretty contemptuous of your constituents to clam up and pretend that no one knows where it came from.

This kind of puerile buck-passing is way too common, and it needs to stop. Maybe if they knew their name was going to be attached, legislators would think twice before inserting egregiously self-serving crap like this. www.motherjones.com/kevin-drum/2015/07/todays-proposal-legislative-tra

Well, no one really wants people getting used to the "somethin' for nuthin'" but maybe they just don't understand the cost benefit analysis here.

Between 2009 and 2015, "teen births dropped 40 percent, abortions fell 35 percent and the state avoided more than $80 million in Medicaid costs," according to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment's website.

Headline needs to be "You get four bucks back for every one you give away"

Just hide the "Teenagers Get Laid More Than You And You Pay For It" part...

Republicans understand cost/benefit analysis perfectly when the benefits go to themselves. But as a matter of principles in politics they absolutely refuse to consider the economic and human toll for anyone who is not them. That's why Republicans are always killing birth control programs because they already have their birth control. That is also why Republicans are ready to go to war with Arabs because they are not Arabs, easily forgive police killing blacks because they are not black, eager to execute prisoners because they are not prisoners, ready for more tax cuts because, well, it's more money in their pocket. Republicans love reaping benefits and not paying costs.
