Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

And this is relevant because Brown was shot in a close-quarters physical struggle?

Oh, wait. He wasn't.

Why do you ask questions to which you already know the answers ?

Of COURSE I can.

He goes to the counter, grabs 1 pack of Swisher Sweets, and then hands it to his buddy behind him. Then he leans in, reaches over the counter, and pulls back , knocking the whole display onto the floor. We can only speculate as to what's being said.

His buddy then places the single pack of Swisher Sweets back onto the counter, as MB picks up the rest from the floor. He grabs them, and instead of placing them ALL back on the counter, he just heads out the door. That's when the guy behind the counter comes out and tries to confront him.

Never do you see MB reach for his walled and pay for the cigars. He just takes 'em, and leaves.

I wonder where Brown got the idea that a person can physically assault a police officer? Push him ... punch him ... go for his gun? Something taught by his parents, friends, or favorite gangster rappers no doubt. They must be so proud.

Still waiting rappy. If those events really are there you should have no difficulty pointing out when they happen. The time in minutes and seconds is helpfully located at the bottom of the video.

This is like that Zimmerman case all over again. The whole thing gets tried by social media. Judge and jury. Everyone knows best. Everyone has a predetermined idea of how this should play out. One side says 'black person behaving badly. Cop did what he had to do' the other side says 'another example of cops shooting a black person first and asking questions later'.

Is there something wrong with waiting to see how this turns out legally? Or is there a lack of trust in legal processes that trial by media is the way to determine truth?

Lack of faith due to demonstrable and blatant corruption of the justice system.

Of course, this starts with the known and now indisputable fact that our police are every bit as bad as those of a third world junta, often moreso because such juntas have more sense than to allow them military grade weaponry.

Seriously, even if you get a cop investigated and by some miracle they face charges, those charges will be the absolute minimum the prosecutor can get away with, resulting in some REALLY bizarre contortions of law (Example: Misuse of a communications device, for trying to lure a child across state lines for sexual purposes) and whatever sentencing, if any, will be totally softballed - just LOOK at the list here.
http://www.policemisconduct.net/

AND, due to the badge mafias potent grip on the court system, and accomplices like the FOP, in most cases even when charged, convicted and sentenced, those are quietly reversed on appeal when the heat dies down and the officer re-instated, or when that isn't possible they just move down the line to the next department and later, rinse, repeat.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gypsy_cop

Ergo, accountablity is effectively Zilch.

Now, what this ALSO does, is corrupt the entire court/justice system because of the incestuous relationship between court-judge-prosecutor-police... resulting in a courts dependency on police resources and testimony, a relationship that is without fail exploited on every level, making courts, prosecutors and judges very reluctant to hold them bastards accountable when they KNOW retaliation will ensue - remember that Judges on many levels are elected here and thus when the police force, police union, fraternal order of police and all their loyal little jackboot lickers throw their weight behind a Judicial candidate, it's a shoe-in cause of the resources and pressure they can bring to bear.

So from that poison root, the rot spreads throughout the entire justice system until it's prettymuch just a railroad line rubber stamping whatever the cops want it to do, and that's if the system in a locality itself is not corrupt in other ways as well (See Also: Luzerne County Railroad).

Trials and verdicts these days are more often about favors owed and political considerations than anything even remotely resembling justice, and so the ONLY way to obtain it in a case like this is to put the spotlight of public scrutiny upon them to the point where they have to hold up the pretense in order to maintain the illusion.

With the media cross-checking them, shredding their bullshit claims, actually doing half the courts job by really investigating instead of taking the cops word for it (See Also: Testilying) it becomes harder to manage and control a coverup because despite the media in most cases being practically supine and servile to the so-called forces of law and order, public outrage sells media, and none of them want to be scooped by ignoring crucial evidence or humiliated by taking at face value laughable lies.

So unfortunately in a case like this, the media circus and public scrutiny which comes with it is the ONLY way to forcibly grind the wheels of justice along in a rigged system where everyone within it is pulling as hard as they can in the opposite direction.

Ergo - we HAVE to keep the spotlight beam on these fucking roaches, else they'll just creep back under the rug and keep doin this shit.

Yeah, I looked. Frame by frame. I saw daylight between Brown and the camera, behind him and the shelving behind him, and between him and the counter. I didn't see anything getting knocked down and falling in those spaces. I also didn't notice anything which had been visible which disappeared from view.

Maybe we could make it a contest. Who can spot how the magic trick was done?

Of course, if it weren't so dementedly sad it'd almost be funny just how far they'll go to present Anarchists as some kind of "threat".

Threat of WHAT, mind you ?
That we might.. *gasp* ..LEAVE PEOPLE ALONE, yanno, like Conservatives SAY they want while trying to use the machinery of the State to run everyones life for them ?

Or is it perhaps that we'll never support your agenda of cockblocking every ounce of scientific and moral progress, civilization and natural human rights - which you fucking Troglodytes have done ever since that political spectrum existed ?

That we're IN THE WAY of your great-grand-plan to turn back the clock to an idealized glory-days-that-never-were when women and minorities "knew their place" ?

Well put on your big boy pants and suck it up, you petulant little cretins, cause your stupid little pipedream is just that, and you oughta be damn thankful for it, considering what would *actually* happen if this world was ever screwed enough to allow you to try.

Of course, we've come to expect no less from morons dumb enough to "save" villages... by carpet bombing them.

It turns out that the Freedom of Information request, as stated by the Ferguson Police chief, was actually a lie. Recently, in response to the police chief's claims (lie) a local reporter submitted a FOI request regarding all requests by reporters to determine the truth (or actual stretching of same).

What the reporter discovered was that there wasn't any direct request for the video of the "robbery" that wasn't in the convenience store. There was, however, one request by a St. Louis Post-Dispatch reporter for any and all documents, videos and the like regarding Brown. It was a blanket request so as to cover all bases.

Fact: The police chief did state that the incident had nothing to do with the shooting.

Now why did he say that but then release the video as though it was an official police statement of fact. Just the opposite. He said that to cover their ass because he knew his statement was untrue. Had he said it was related to the "robbery" then we come to find out that it wasn't, as most have overlooked, then there would be no justification for the shooting. So the police chief said it was unrelated, and he made it a point to say that Officer Wilson knew nothing of it.

What other reason would he have for posting the video?

It was later reported that the person in the video confronting Brown was a customer in the store. Also, the owner, through his attorney, stated that there was no robbery. That could be rectified by simply submitting an FOI for any police report or 911 calls regarding the so-called robbery. That would put that lie to rest.

The video does not show MB paying for anything. It's just a close up of what I have already posted. If he did, then why did the clerk come out and try to stop him from leaving ?

MB reaches over the counter, pulls back a packet of cigars, and hands it to his buddy. ( buddy looks confused, as if thinking 'Why'd you hand them to me ?' ) Then MB reaches over the counter again, pulls back the display case of cigars ( which is just a cardboard tray which looks to hold maybe a dozen or more packets of cigars ). Several packets fall to the ground. He puts the display back, but picks up the packets which were on the ground. His buddy puts back the cigars MB had handed him. He then turns to a lady while holding cigars in both hands, and then just walks out. The store clerk, seeing that he's not put the UNPAID for items back, goes and tries to retrieve the items.

A couple of things come to mind, see if you can follow:

Why would the Chief of Police, a duly appointed officer of the law, not send out an APB for Brown's arrest following the robbery, that he himself admits to......

"All I did -- what I did was -- was release the videotape to you, because I had to," Jackson told reporters on Aug. 15 when asked why he released the robbery footage. "I’d been sitting on it, but I -- too many people put in a [Freedom of Information Act] request for that thing, and I had to release that tape to you."

From August 9, the day of the robbery and shooting, until August 15 he "sat" on it.
Doesn't that strike you as odd behavior for an officer of the law, not to pursue a criminal and knowingly withhold pertinent information involving the dangerous criminal.

To be fair, I'm posting a disclaimer regarding the FOI requests as stated by the Huffington Post, that may clear up some of the controversy:

Within days of the tragic events on August 9, the City of Ferguson began receiving multiple requests for information and documents. While some of these requests were made in writing, many requests were made verbally due to the fact that the City's website and email were down at several points during that week. City personnel cataloged all requests and treated them in the same manner as it would any Sunshine Law request. (The “Sunshine Law” is Missouri’s equivalent of the federal Freedom of Information Act).

Several reporters, news organizations and others asked for documents specifically pertaining to Michael Brown. One such request was made by the St. Louis Post Dispatch. On August 12, 2014, the paper requested “all documentation concerning the events leading up to and including the shooting of Michael Brown" which shall include “incident, arrest and investigative reports, 911 audio, photos and video retained by the police department.” Another request, made on August 14, 2014, by Judicial Watch requested all records relating to Michael Brown and dated between August 1, 2013, and August 9, 2014.

The Sunshine Law dictates that Governmental entities must respond to both general requests and specific requests and release all documents that are responsive to the those requests, unless those documents are otherwise closed.

The Ferguson police department retained the incident and investigative report of the store robbery which occurred less than 10 minutes before the shooting. The reports, which included the surveillance video, concerned Michael Brown. Under the Sunshine Law, the police department had no reason to close these records and withhold them from the public.

By the date of August 15, the City having reached its statutory deadline to respond to the information requests, released the store robbery reports, including the surveillance video.
Ryan J. Reilly and Matt Sledge contributed reporting.

Still though, why wasn't Officer Wilson alerted to the fact that there was a robbery involving M. Brown? Why wasn't he arrested? Was it deliberate? Or was it incompetence?

The truth will come out!

Glad the issue of the robbery was brought up SGG. While it didn't seem have any direct tie in with later events, it shows the mindset of Michael, having just stolen and roughed up a store clerk.

As for WHY the FPD chose to hold onto the video for so long, I have heard discussion to the fact that it was Eric Holder who was behind the delay. And the argument that the video some how disparages the character of Michael is nonsensical. The events in the store happened. That's not debatable.

Your childish , pointless insults aside, the video shows clearly what happened in the store. That you doubt Brown shoved the store clerk, and then threatened him further, only shows how blind and trollish you are here.

* Do you also think that the events in the elevator with Ray Rice and his then fiancee are 'debatable' ?

Idiot.

Kettle logic
Kettle logic (la logique du chaudron in the original French) is a type of informal fallacy wherein one uses multiple arguments to defend a point, but the arguments themselves are inconsistent.

I am beginning to think some folk in this thread believe Travon Martin was actually innocent, despite all the facts. The way they are pulling the same nonsense about Brown, it seems they cannot admit the obvious.

Yes, it's been reported that Eric Holder, the Top Cop in the Land, requested it be held so as not to stir up the towns people of Ferguson. He knew that it would not be received well.

So, what does the Police Chief do, he releases it - logically!? In effect, he contributed to inciting a riot, then lies about it. He wanted chaos to deflect from releasing the shooting officer's name. His lie: that he released the video due to several requests by the media. Not to worry, he will get his.

It worked, the media swarmed in on the video and forgot about why they were there.

Still though, being shot 6 times, 2 to the head, does not exactly balance out as just punishment for stealing a box of cigars.

As for WHY the FPD chose to hold onto the video for so long, I have heard discussion to the fact that it was Eric Holder who was behind the delay. And the argument that the video some how disparages the character of Michael is nonsensical. The events in the store happened. That's not debatable.

What is also not debatable is that the Police Chief lied about the video tape release.

So far, no evidence has been brought forward to corroborate the lie that Brown attacked the cop. But, new witnesses have come forward (interviewed by the FBI and St. Louis County police) describing pretty much what others have stated - that Brown was shot at as he ran away from Wilson, and then Brown turned and put up his hands in the universal surrender stance. HANDS UP, DON'T SHOOT!

6 or 7 shots rang out, and then Brown slumped forward, presumably dead. Not one, but two new witnesses.

Of course it's debatable, you fucking idiot. That's just one of the many details of this that we're debating.

You claim he strong-armed the clerk or the store's owner, roughed him up, and stole stuff. Nobody has come forward with any concrete evidence to support that. You say he assaulted a cop, but nobody has provided any evidence of that, either.

That you're a fucking moron is what's not debatable, what so ever.

I missed where anyone has suggested it was.

In fact, hasn't it been established that Officer Wilson didn't even know of the robbery which had just taken place ?

Best defense I've heard so far is that the cop was responding to being struck by the suspect, and there was a struggle for the gun. Beyond that, who really knows ?

"Beyond that?"

Again, you keep accepting as fact things that have not been supported by evidence.

Nobody has yet produced any evidence that Brown ever assaulted the cop.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Really!? Who said this? Did you catch a secret interview on Fox with Officer Wilson? Or did these pearls of wisdom come from the mouth of the Police chief?

Was there an eye witness account stating that Officer Wilson was attacked? Where's the proof? Please provide the link or state the news feed that made this claim.

Lots of folks speculated that there was a struggle, when the reports were released that the officer had his eye socket busted. What the specific injury was or how he got it ( if any ) does still remain to be seen.

Like I said, it was the best ( for the officer's sake ) defense I'd heard. I never said it was how things went down, and it some how cleared the cop of any wrong doing.

But if he WAS assaulted by Brown, it changes things a bit.

Were you one of those "lots of folks" who was doing the speculating?

Have you given the victim, Michael Brown, the same "best (for his sake) defense" consideration? Or have you gone out of your way to portray him as a bully and a thug, even going so far as to insist that there cannot even be a debate about what (or who) is seen on the videotape from the store?

Officer Wilson has no ' hands up, don't shoot ' campaign being run for him.

All he has are the facts.

Facts often don't sell too well these days, unfortunately.

No need to go out of my way. The video clearly shows Brown acted exactly like a bully and a thug. And it's not going out of my way in the least to state clearly that the video shows what it shows.

Are you going to debate the Ray Rice video too ? Please, by all means, tell us all that he was defending himself against a vicious , angry woman.

Go for it.

Just as I thought, speculation! No eyewitness accounts stating an attack or assault by Brown - just "it stands to reason, he emptied his clip in self defense" what other reason could justify shooting so many times.

By the way, eyewitness accounts put the shots at more like 10, with 6 finding it's target. And still no hospital ER records showing treatment of any wounds to the officer's face or any other part of his body. That is not to say that there isn't, but, so far, nothing in eyewitness accounts or hospital records, or even a photo showing his injured eye socket has surfaced.

There was something posted on the internet recently, but it turned out to be a motocross athlete's face from 4 years ago, and the rumor is that he's long since dead. Requests were made by journalists, under FOIA, to obtain that information regarding Wilson, and, as you can gather, none has been produced.

"What the specific injury was or how he got it ( if any ) does still remain to be seen."

Exactly! It remains to be seen.

and it some how cleared the cop of any wrong doing.

It makes complete sense the cops are covering for their guy, so of course they use the oldest story in the book "he went for my gun, I was in fear for my life." But consider the source, the nearly all white police force. Yes, I went there!

But why wouldn't a cop, who's cruising the neighborhood by himself, call for back up if he was so in fear for his life. Brown is huge, so why not call for back up, regardless of whether he knew he "strong-armed" a package of cigarillos.

I'm not accusing the cop of anything, just asking questions as to why shoot an unarmed man and not call in the Cavalry. Why hide if you're innocent?

When OJ took off in the white Bronco, I knew he was guilty, an innocent man does not run!

"if he WAS assaulted by Brown, it changes things a bit."

It changes nothing! Call for back up and wait for the Cavalry. If Brown did grabbed his gun, then his DNA will appear on the officer's gun. That too, remains to be seen.
