There are teams now that go around to schools here in the U.S. and give training to students and faculty as to how to conduct themselves in the event of a shooter entering their schools. Makes the old duck-N-cover of the Sixties seem kind of fun, eh?
Next up: kevlar vests with your school logo on them.
?

Ahhhhh, the Gun Industry. Better living through more Guns, Lots of 'em!

Period.

Next up: Kids don't attend schools physically any more due to the possible danger and do all their participation in class via thirty-way online Class Chat (c).
?

Now there's an idea, Online schools. This way nobody gets shot, only a nasty email, tweet or text.

Brilliant Chris!

Wait, one problem..........who stays home to watch the wee ones. Repubs will love this, they'll vote to ban women from working to stay home and watch the kiddies.

But that's a money thing. I know folks never want to spend money on PREVENTING shit.
Clean-up creates JOBS.

I have the bestest idea, you guys are gonna wanna vote me in for POTUS when you hear this:

Ok, everybody gets a gun, see, this way you keep the 2nd Amendment alive.
Then as you go about your day-to-day business, anyone you see acting a bit crazy - BANG!- problem solved.

Oh, that's my best NRA induced idea yet! Go Me!

(not dumping on YOU here, Jongs, just so you know)

So gun sellers and shooting trainers will need to be qualified mental health experts? Ok, and let's do the same for driver's licenses, marriage licenses, human procreation, and a plethora of activities that are potentially dangerous and deadly to innocents that are abused and preyed upon by sociopaths, alcoholics, and drug addicts.

Professional security guards don't have a history of flipping out like that; this is a fairly disingenuous argument Wish.
Lets be real here:
Shootings are on the rise (I hate these fads),
This country isn't going to do ANYTHING about it in terms of prevention (I mean, it's only a few deaths a week, right?),
So either you accept that shootings are gonna happen, or you employ a couple of more people per school that can help the situation.

Oh, that's funny the color just glitched on this post... fixed it...

FREMDFIRMA

I offered a proposal that met the *admitted* goals and conditions of both "sides" - it was dismissed out of hand, primarily cause the *admitted* goals are often not the real ones.

One thing that pisses me off is how both "sides" keep amping it up, trying to one up each other while raising the fear and paranoia, on one end cause it sells more guns, and on the other hoping for enough blind moral outrage to ignore/break a Constitutional Amendment* - and both of em lying about it the whole damn time.

*Note here: you wanna AMEND the Consitution, call for THAT, and yes it's a difficult process and it's difficult for damn good reason - you do not, should not, continue to set further legal precedents for IGNORING it, cause that has never gone well.
Beyond that, name one single mass weapon confiscation in all of history that did not provoke a War, civil or otherwise, or was not immediately followed by a massacre of epic proportions, name ONE.
I challenge you to try.

Private security might be a viable stopgap, but that's a band-aid on a bullet wound, horrible pun intended - we gotta reduce the violence in our society itself, and I don't just mean on a physical level, cause the economic, social and psychological violence dished out is a lotta times what makes it wind up on the physical plane... but nobody wants to talk about that when they can scream a fit and hope for jerked knees and moral outrage clearing the deck for their master plan, of course not.

Oh, and I *did* tell you all what a horrible idea putting cops, aka "School Resource Officers" in schools was, admist the usual chorus of flaming and dismissal, much similar to the flaming chucked at me when I pointed out handing Tazers to cops with no oversight or accountability was stupid.

*slow clap*
Brilliant, once again, the "solution" becomes worse than the problem.
But go on, double down on stupid while dismissing reason, it worked SO WELL every other time.
(okay yeah, I am maybe a *LEETLE* pissed about constantly being the run-over-flat voice-of-reason STOP sign in the middle of the highway of blind-moral-outrage, do-something and for-your-own-good, aka the RIVER OF STUPID!)

Anyhows, every moment spent focusing on the tools by which the violence is done, blaming inanimate objects and trying OH SO FUCKING HARD not to look at the root causes lest we admit culpability, is one more moment spend not solving the goddamn problem, but oh well....
Not like anyone ever pays a mind to sanity anyways these days.

I totally agree here with your every word, Frem.
There's just no way in Hell we are ever gonna admit to causing this (or almost any other) problem. Not as individuals, not as states and NEVER as a country.

I've no idea how to stop the violence in my whole country.
Instead of pumping up my moral outrage, I plan to do something peaceful for myself.
.
.
.
There is one drawback. I enjoy a lot of pretend violence. So ...
is this a harmless outlet, or a contribution to violent attitudes within our race?

If you're watching old reruns of the TV series Kung Fu, it's a harmless outlet; if you're watching anything else it's merely a bad Human habit we cannot give up.

Don't have my TV in the house. Need to bring it back in to watch my old CDs.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/film/film-news/8919102/Where-are-th
e-great-movies-asks-Spielberg.html

Spielberg "said he relied on his pre-production ritual of watching
four classics: Seven Samurai, The Searchers, Lawrence of Arabia, and
It’s a Wonderful Life, to help ensure the success of new projects."

I never forgot The Searchers (1956, John Wayne, Jeff Hunter). Grim,
deep, poetic. I guess. I didn't know others considered it a great
classic, a great movie for any era. I just thought the western life
style looked authentic for once. When Spielberg talks about it, he
mentions things that always went right over my silly head.

There's a neighbor here. Never heard of The Searchers, so I loaned
him mine. Guess he's watching it over & over.

There's peace at the end of it. And anyways ... the theme songs are
done by The Sons of the Pioneers (long forgotten) & we get a brief
serenade from Ken Curtis/Festus.
