Nope; before anyone starts with the "oh, it was probably just a few nasty bigots", remember, so many of the comments were so nasty and virulent, that as FauxNews reported, the comments section on YouTube had to be deleted. What's truly amusing is the absolute FUROR on the right about a tweet from MSNBC which read: "Maybe the rightwing will hate it, but everyone else will go awww: the adorable new #Cheerios ad w/ biracial family", which is precisely what happened! MSNBC's president apologized, Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus says he will continue to fight against "attacks" on his party. In other words, MSNBC called it, GOP is pissed.

I find it offensive, but not for bigoted reasons.

I find just about all commercials offensive b/c they demean my intelligence by pitching the idea that we're all here to get in some lame 'last word' or extort some personal benefit. It's ALL about oneupmanship as our ideal.

And THAT is the beauty of the advertised homey 'mericun family that's supposed to make our hearts melt - and make us buy Cheerios. Putting in different-colored people is there just to get our attention.

I think it's gotta be a spoof (my gawd, I hope so!); "I represent the Society of Concerned Cereal Eaters…" ?? It's just too perfect (she really did a great job), I mean, cereal is "pure", "milk is white"...

I listened to the whole thing, and I swear to gawd, I think she was putting them on. I PRAY she was putting them on... Googling, there is no Society of Concerned Cereal Eaters, and the things she said are just sooo far out in fantasy land...I can only hope they got spoofed.

(ETA: By the way, Hughley asked her what they could eat, too, if you caught it, and she responded something about Oreos being okay...)

Oh, I don't, for a minute. Of COURSE they planned it to get the attention it's getting; they're ADVERTISERS, remember? Why would they have any altruistic motives? It's their job to SELL the product, and this helps open up the market, exactly like Coca-Cola's ad did (as it, too, was intended to do). Why would that even be a question?

It, like all commercials, represents the society in which they live, while at the same time getting attention from that (very loud) part of the society which is guaranteed to be outraged by change within the society in which they live. It's a win-win.

Has absolutely nothing to do with how vile and disgusting the reaction is.
