BBob: "Little kids always ask why."
Translation: Adults who always ask why are very immature.
Me: If I can't say Why, my power to reason comes into question.
.....

SF, my Sometimes Friend, is an angry person.
She talks about going to Hell from time to time. She seems to believe
that she and most people are going to Hell. I will respond, "There is
no Hell, except what we make of it here on Earth."
SF: That's what my Kenny used to say.
Me: Well, he was right.
If she continues the topic with, "I know I'm going to Hell."
Me: What makes you think there's a Hell? Why would God even make a hell?"
SF: I don't argue about religion!

About 2 weeks ago, re: Barak Obama.
SF: "Somebody oughta shoot him in the head!"
Me: "WHAT?! Why? Why should someone shoot the President?"
SF: "I hope somebody shoots him in the head!"
Me: "OK, fine. What did he do? Why should he be shot?"
SF: "He ruined this country."
Me: "No, he didn't! It was a horrible mess when he got here."
(Silence)
Me: "SF, you can't just say that the President that we elected twice
deserves to be shot. Especially when you didn't even vote!"
SF: "Bill says he ruined this country."
Me: "Yeah, but Bill's 'an idiot.' You always say so."

I guess that conversation fermented in the back of my mind for 2 weeks.
And suddenly I realized that this why I was so mad at her ... this time.
She's has been blabbing at me for years, mostly boring stuff: her personal
life or mine or gossip. Little said of general opinions-values-beliefs based
on reasoning. No Known Philosophy!

BBob: "Little kids always ask why."
Little kids do. I think they and we deserve an answer.
When we form our opinions, does reasoning play a part?
Can you & I decide what's true based on provable facts? Can we reason?

The ability to decide what is true & what is false is called critical thinking
or objective thinking or reasoning. Yes?
How do we know what we know?

Google, Reasoning:
"1. the action of thinking about something in a logical, sensible way."

Google, Reasoning and Proof(?)
"Simply defined, reasoning is the use of logical thinking to make
sense of a situation or idea. Reasoning is a natural part of childhood.
Young children use reasoning when they play games, classify items,
solve problems, observe their surroundings, and listen to others."

(NM. Google can find 1,000s of blurbs & articles on the subject. But
Logic, whatever that is, appears to be essential, Mr. Watson.)

Inventors. No one had to invent uses for a sharp stick. Sharp stick
is obviously for prying things out of the ground or poking something
in the eye. ... The improved sharp stick: spear, javelin, had to be
invented & made by a person. A smarter than the average, pre-tech-era
person.

I have long believed that some people reason, but most don't. That
the ability to reason is an inborn gift & most folks aren't given it.
Upon reflection, this attitude may be a snooty hangover from my Mom
who believed that most people are ignorant (uneducated) while she-
herself, tho educated, exibited little reasoning ability.

O gee -- Enough blather!!

When people are discussing/arguing on a public forum (or in Congress),
Shouldn't they be able to support their PoV with Facts-Reason-Logic?

YES!

How do you reason with anyone who says there is a hell, when there is no evidence of such ?

Most people believe there is a hell, no ?

Sometimes you own the libs. Sometimes, the libs own you.

I always say humans are semi-rational creatures. Some mucj more rational than others.

Honesty is just as important as intelligence to rational thought. We all have things that we *want* to be true.

It's not personal. It's just war.

And no one wants to see a President Joe Biden. No one.

That's the one and only reason why he was chosen as VP. Security.

At last, someone finally explains why Sarah Palin was McCain's VP pick!

If Maverick wanted to pick a VP who made him look good, he chose poorly. Palin was the only reason the election was as close as it was.
