Quote:

Texas Governor Rick Perry (R) according to The Raw Story declared a state of emergency and said that he intended to request federal funds in response to the explosion of the fertilizer plant in West, Texas. He said he received a call from President Obama while the President was flying to the memorial in Boston, Massachusetts. Perry said:
Quote:

We greatly appreciate his call, and his gracious offer of support, of course, and the quick turnaround of the emergency declaration that will be forthcoming, and his offer of prayers.

This is the same governor that in a state with the highest number of uninsured (33% of the population and 49th in the country), has refused to sign on to the Medicaid portion of Obamacare. After-all, that is not his demographic, poor and largely minority (Texas uninsured- 26.3% white, 58.8 Hispanic/Latino, 10.5% Black, 3.5% Asian). This is the same governor that cut budgets in such a draconian manner that the forest fires in Texas decimated many of the Central Texas camping grounds and parks used by middle class folk. He was quick to declare THIS area a disaster and stated he would accept federal help: The demographics of West, Texas, is the demographic Perry will ensure remains whole and satisfied.

Perry loves to preach government deregulation. Texas is one of the states where its environmental agency, Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), that is supposed to protect Texans, is nothing but a shill for polluting industries. Here in the Houston area there are cancer alleys that are “technically ignored”.

They can only feel when things affect them personally or within a group they are close to. They are the pure representation of a population set that does not have the ability to empathize. They are Right Wing Republicans.

That's about it; he and his have essentially neutered any protections for the public, but by gawd, we, the public, better be there to bail them out when it all comes home to roost! This explosion shouldn't have been much of a surprise; in 2006, the West plant was cited for failing to obtain or even to qualify for a permit. Beyond that, they lied through their teeth to the EPA and public safety officials:
Quote:

The fertilizer plant that exploded Wednesday night in West, Texas, reported to the Environmental Protection Agency and local public safety officials that it presented no risk of fire or explosion, documents show.

West Fertilizer Co. reported having as much as 54,000 pounds of anhydrous ammonia on hand in an emergency planning report required of facilities that use toxic or hazardous chemicals.

But the report, reviewed Wednesday night by The Dallas Morning News, stated “no” under fire or explosive risks. The worst possible scenario, the report said, would be a 10-minute release of ammonia gas that would kill or injure no one.

The second worst possibility projected was a leak from a broken hose used to transfer the product, again causing no injuries.

The plan says the facility did not have any other dangerous chemicals on hand. It says that the plan was on file with the local fire department and that the company had implemented proper safety rules. http://www.dallasnews.com/news/state/headlines/20130417-west-fertilize

Yeah, capitalism will always police itself, we should always trust them, they'll always be honest with us. And Texas don't need no government agencies...but they'll take the government MONEY after people have died, thank you very much...

SHINYGOODGUY

Perry's not alone. Romney did an awful lot of backpedaling on the Health Care reform. He kept badmouthing Obamacare and how he would repeal it, when it was pretty much the same as his health reform bill in Mass when he was governor.

"What," he said, "it's not the same."

Govt doesn't do it's job, then claims it needs more $ to do what it's already suppose to be doing in the first place.

Maybe a few less conferences in Vegas and a few more full 8 hour days of actual WORK, and this sort of crap would never happen in the first place.

Yes. Govt workers are lazy. I said it.

Gotta remember, too, that these were the same Republic of Texas folks who were gonna secede a few years ago, when their tax money was gonna be used to help folks who they didn't like in other states.

Funny how now the shoe's on the other foot.

You misunderstand Perry. When Zoe said that it ain't fair, Badger replied, "Crime and politics, little girl: the situation is always fluid." Gov Rick Perry is fluid and that is why he is the longest serving governor in Texas history.

Perry was not hypocritical when he made a calculation about his political future: that people benefiting from Obamacare do NOT vote for Republican governors and people who oppose paying for Obamacare do vote Republican. For other state governors, the numbers come out different. Florida's governor is one example of a Republican suddenly supporting Obamacare for his own very, very personal reasons involving being reelected. www.motherjones.com/mojo/2013/03/rick-scott-may-want-obamacare-florida

Perry was also not hypocritical when he asked for West money. To refuse to ask for disaster aid would lose him votes from both Republicans and nominal 'Independents'. Winning elections is the bedrock principle of Perry.

Our Federal govt DOES in fact get all it needs and more to properly do the jobs required. But govt wastes too much of the taxpayer's " contributions " , to line the pockets of some with perks, bonuses, hell, even entire departments with excessive , pointless and unnecessary fraud and redundancy. And then when something like a major natural disaster or calamity DOES take place, and resources for the public are clearly in need, the simple, basic act of offering assistance suddenly becomes " political ".

Screw voting on taking away more of our rights as being "shameful ", this sort of ankle biting is really where America fails.

Yup, Two, you nailed it. Our politicians for the most part function from one impetus alone: Self-interest. We've long known it, we know the exceptions are few and far between, it's just irritating as hell to watch it in action.

Only I'm not one of the major offenders, as I'm the one who more often points out the tactic that the Left loves to use.

I note that you also completely ignored my full quote, and chose not to HONESTLY address the point I was making.

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ...

Oh, and you had a point? Was it that you're so moon-eyed over any republican you can't see straight and would never EVER notice any of their corruption?

So yeah, and speaking of hypocrisy and not arguing the point others have put forth, do you agree or not agree that Perry is a hypocrite?

Believe me, we got it years ago.
