But really, why confine the celebrations to just one thread?

I say we turn this muthafuckin' site BLUE with celebration threads!

I'm thoroughly disgusted by the media coverage of this election. For months now it has been clear to anyone paying attention that this election would come down to Ohio. And Obama has had a commanding lead in the Ohio polls, period. He began tonight with a 7 point lead in Ohio. The election was over at that point.

So, basically, Obama has been the clear front runner this entire election cycle. Sure, after the first debate, Romney got a big boost, but it was just a momentary thing and anyone who knew any damn thing about it knew it would fade by election night.

AND YET...every media outlet going has been nothing but "Too close to call!!!" "Anyone's race!" for weeks and weeka and even now "Obama wins after tense night!" Seriously, for me, this was the least tense election I've ever witnessed. All's ya gotta do is PAY ATTENTION.

^THIS.
Exactly this - it wasn't even close cause once you discount the "electronic advantage" and massive purging/disenfranchisement/suppression efforts, the totality of the repudiation becomes pretty clear - basically a loud little handful versus the rest-of-us who happen to be not-crazy.
And as I point out in empathy/humanity threads, that's always a slam dunk.

The media of course has it's own reasons for the pretense, by pretending its close and trolling people into watching via tactics best described as yellow journalism they get the numbers up and those all important eyes on screen for their advertisers, but just like the constant GOP fearmongering, eventually that trick pales and the numbers sink, as does the outlet using it - the print media wonders why they've been all but obliterated and cannot seem to realize constant lies, sensationalism, propaganda-as-journalism and lack of integrity/credibility has a lot to do with it, especially in the days of the internet when people can and will crosscheck your bullshit and catch you out on it.

Case in point, 538 vs the rest of the media, imagine for a second we were back in the days of yore pre-internet, where those bullshit numbers handed to you by the mainstream outlets were all you had to work with, neh ?
I am extremely gratified by the mainstream outlets wiping egg off their faces over this, myself.

As to why else they'd cook the numbers, remember these bastards are in it to make money, that they are corporations too, so of COURSE they're gonna cook the numbers to favor pro-corp candidates more friendly to media consolidation and monopolisation, that is kind of a given.
But consider this, so long as we can keep the internet free, these assholes will have no credibility that we do not give unto them, the balance of power shifts in OUR favor, and we damn well ought to keep it that way.

I think much of the MSM liked the narrative of it being 'too close to call'; media always needs an angle, a story to tell - that's one of its downsides. Also they're sensitive to appearing 'pro-Obama' (which the right will call them whatever they do).

Wull, also the number one method of yellow journalism since forever is fear mongering, and with the country so starkly divided, there's a lot of fear to be mongered to both sides with a good "It's anybody's fight, folks, get ready!" Disgusting, I tells ya.

You know shithead, what I find interesting about your self-proclaimed libertarianism? You are cool with all sorts of people and think they should exist in this world. Soldiers, generals, the ultra-wealthy, conservatives ... Yes, you are so open-mined you welcome ANY kind of boot-licking master-slave relationship and find nothing to criticize about it. Those people literally can do no wrong. At least not so that you'd post ANYTHING negative about them.

The only exception you make to your broad acceptance to the varieties of humanity is when it comes to liberals. In your eyes literally nothing they do is right. I have yet to see you post one positive thing. And in your eyes those liberals deserve to be criticized for things you find acceptable from everyone else of a more conservative persuasion.

Not that I expect you to suddenly slap your forehead in self-recognition and go - of COURSE! that's why people think I'm a right-wing asshole instead of a freedom-lover!

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

As did the party I voted for. But it's not who you VOTED for people are judging you on, it's who you CONDEMN and who you FAIL TO CRITICIZE. And you - TeaPublican all the WAY! baby

Well, getting you to admit that both sides are evil is something of a victory, I guess.

NICE STRAWMAN. 'Cause certianly we've been posting criticisms of Obama all these years.

Hello,

I have to agree with this. The Liberals/Democrats on this board are typically willing and able to critique the failings of their own leadership. Time and again I've seen either criticisms posted or criticisms acknowledged.

I have not seen as much of this from the opposition camp. It happens, but not with the same routine regularity.

In my opinion.

Oh. So I have to indulge in rabid personal attacks against anyone I don't support 100% to get your approval?

Guess I don't get your approval.

I've noted several times that there's a lot of Romney's platform I don't agree with, but apparently without including the stuff about his wife's horse or his garage in California that's not enough.

If you want to know why there is partisan gridlock in Congress, look at yourself, and the other folks on both sides who can't disagree without hating.

So no matter if it was Obama or Romney who won, I lost.

Hello,

I voted for one such dude in the primaries, but it didn't go anywhere.

So you settled for what, in your opinion, was the lesser of two evils. I settled for what I considered the least of three.
