It's not possible to have a discussion w/ folks who believe lies as you do. Small business owners pay for those roads, those utilities, those fire / police protection, so it's utterly irrational to ask of anyone's built a business w/ out ANY of those existing. This is what the Left does, distorts, lies, twists the issues, so that folks believe small business owners and those who work for a living are really no different, have done nothing special, or have sacrificed no more than anyone else.

To the losers and moochers of society, I'm sure that sells. Makes them feel better about themselves, as they sit on the couch and watch endless hours of t.v., worrying who'll get voted off the island next, which gay couple will 'get it on' in Glee next, or which Ewing heir will win in their epic family feud.

Meanwhile, the real workers of this country are out doing , not talkin'.

Speaking of which, I noticed a thing here in Long Beach the other day: coffee bars and restaurants with patio serving and outdoor eating /drinking areas that not only block the sidewalk, but extend out into the street, into the parking spaces in front of their building. I thought that those areas were public right-of way, if not public property, for the use of any citizen, not just the lessee of the building, for him to take advantage of and make a profit off of. I thought that if they wanted to do that, they had to buy/lease a bigger piece of property, hence paying more for it, because they wanted to make restricted personal use of it.

Conversely, I know of an IHOP in a shopping center with an outdoor eating area, with the public sidewalk outside of it. They're obviously leasing/ buying a larger footprint, paying more for it. Unfair advantage for the coffee house guys?

I wonder if what they're doing is legal, or if the city just isn't bothering to enforce the law, and who you ask about that?

Other than that, it does sound like a good small business capitalist move: rip off something that belongs to everybody, and use it for your own personal gain and profit.

Well guess what, Dear Ruler. We built that stuff too. Not government --- the private sector – America’s evil private businesses.

Get in Marine One, Obama, and fly off to visit a road construction project. Look at those graders, rollers and the machines that lay the asphalt. See those logos on the doors? Those logos are for private construction firms. Those workers in yellow vests? Their paychecks and benefits are coming from private businesses – many of them the very small businesses you want to hit with tax increases.
Next you can fly off to take a look at a utility project somewhere. Maybe you can find a sewer line being laid, or some electrical transmission lines being strung. Again – those are private companies doing that work with private sector workers.

You see, there’s a document out there that, frankly, I doubt you have ever read. It’s called The Declaration of Independence. I’m sure there’s a copy around your office somewhere. But I do want to save you a bit of trouble here -- knowing you busy you are fundamentally transforming American and all -- so I’ll provide you with a little excerpt from that document:

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, —


There! Do you see that? That government you’re so enamored of … that government you credit with Americas greatness … well, to paraphrase one of our presidents, “You didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen.” That’s right, Dear Ruler, somebody else made that government happen .. and that somebody else is US. The government is OURS. We built it. We hire the people to run it. We have regular meetings every two years or so to decide whether we want to keep those managers or get rid of them to find better talent. Those roads .. our national infrastructure? We HIRED the government to build those things for us, just as we hire contractors to build our business locations and to design and manufacture the equipment we will use in the course of our businesses. We created this government – the government did not create us – and we contract with this government to do things for us on a grand scale because we recognize the inefficiencies of trying to do those things for ourselves. Government is just another contractor we hire to get our private business done.

But hold on a minute, Ruler Obama. There’s something else I want you to read before you put this letter down. You see, I didn’t include the whole quote from The Declaration of Independence above. I left something off … and here it is …
---That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.

Maybe it’s just me, but I’m of the opinion that when our elected leaders become so enamored of themselves, and of the government we have hired them to manage, they become a grave danger to those unalienable rights set forth in The Declaration – you know, the rights to Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. The Declaration says we may “pursue” happiness. It does not guarantee it. You and the party you represent seem to think that happiness is a right, and have created a government that has now become destructive of the very ends it was designed to support.

There’s more than one way to alter or abolish at government, Ruler Obama. We’ll give one of them a good old college try in November.

Mike's right; if you start a thread with a snarky picture to make your point, you can't complain about others responding with same.

As to the supposed point the initial photo is trying to make, it's a lie, pure and simple.

took that one sentence and ran with it, as all your right-wing buddies have done. Sure, you can parse that one sentence all you like, but that doesn't make it true. It's what's done in politics every day, by all sides. To try and make a valid point with it is completely irrelevant.

The left, for example, has taken "Corporations are people, my friend" out of context, without adding what he said afterwards: “Of course they are,” Romney said. “Everything corporations earn ultimately goes to people. Where do you think it goes?” That changes it a bit, but not much. They've also taken "I like being able to fire people who provide services to me," without adding the rest of what he said: "You know, if someone doesn't give me a good service that I need, I want to say, 'I'm going to go get someone else to provide that service to me.'"That DOES change the validity of his inital comment.

Now, intelligent people understand that's just politics and every side does it. But those who want a talking point ignore that and make a big deal out of one unfortunate sentence. On the other hand, Romney taking "If we talk about the economy, we'll lose" is TRULY egregious, given Obama was quoting SOMEONE ELSE.

So you can argue forever about which side is "worse", but to buy into the bullshit completely merely reflects a lack of intelligence.

Just as an aside, let's bear in mind that when people talk about "small business", they are usually talking about the official delineation of "small business":

He really has a pretty limited toolbox, that he uses over and over. Don't forget, in addition to the childish language you note, you have his go-to dismissals like "it's what you do" and the like, and the basic rhetorical strategies he falls back on over and over - like saying it's useless to debate anytime someone actually debates him.

You could probably write a program that samples the Rush/Hannity talking points for the day, and is limited to that base phraseology, and create a completely autonomous Raptor chat-bot.

Maybe that's what he is to begin with?

What I find sadly amusing about this is the vast, huge number of Americans who do their jobs for 8 hours, then go home and do precisely what Raptor described, sit around watching TV and thinking about little else--PLUS spending far too much time at the water cooler DISCUSSING those things with fellow workers. Of course, they're FAR better human beings than those who've lost their jobs of 20 or 30 years after working hard all those years, and have been unable to find work because they're too old, there are no jobs in their industry any more, or who've had to take menial jobs just to get by even WITH assistance. Obviously the latter are moochers, obviously.

Raptor is nothing but a deliberately-blind partisan who will repeat whatever he hears that sounds good to him and renforces his own prejudices.
