I don't get HBO, and this isn't the first time I've wished I did. But from hearing about it, and the clips I've seen, this one's a real kick in the head...Sarah's head, that is! I'm going to have to wait for it to come out on Netflix, sadly, but I'd be interested to hear what others thought of it.

Saw it last night - it was very good. I'm a little surprised to say that even with all of the newly revealed, "she did what? how could she not know that?!?" that I came away having more sympathy for her than I thought I would. She didn't ask for it, was picked out of a hat of possibles by desperate campaigners looking for a PR jolt. I don't think she could have said no, and if you believe the movie she tried to do the best she could and it just wasn't good enough.
The other feeling I had was - damn, that was too close!
Great cast - Julianne Moore & Woody Harrelson, Ed Harris, all good - and special mention to Sarah Paulson who played Palin's handler.

Y'all missed the Buffy connection, didn't you?

The screenplay adaptation was written by Danny Strong, known to Buffy fans as Jonathan, one of the Geek Trio!

Also, from what I heard, some critics actually thought the movie went too easy on Ms. Palin.

I too wish I had HBO at times.

I've always found the term "handler" in regard to someone who mannages things for a person or tells them where they should go next really funny.

BLUEHANDEDMENACE

I saw it, and loved it.

There really wasnt anything all that new for somebody who followed the McCain campaign/Palin fallout after the 08s.

The story is clearly told from the point of view of Steve Schmidt, the Woody Harrelson character, who is the source of a lot of the material the book used, which is the source for the movie.

Many of the reviews I saw for this mentioned that Palin was very much a sympathetic character as portrayed in this movie. Nicole Wallace and others on her team openly wonder about her mental stability, the latter portions of the movie include scenes where McCain comments that "she wasn't ready for this" They show several different scenes where she is pretty much unresponsive in meetings while people are talking at her, most notably during the prep for the Katie Couic interview.

Its hard to really kow how much of Palin's lines and attitudes are genuine, but my two favorite "anti-Palin" moments of the movie included an interview prep conversation between her and Schmidt where he asks her about how she would handle falling support for the Iraq War in Britain, and her response goes something like "I know that the USA has always maintained a close relationship w the queen, and if John McCain is elected, I know that he will continue to have a close dialogue with her" The transformation of expression on Woody Harrelson's face while she says it is just ROFLtastic, and since its a direct conversation w Schmidt, comes off as somewhat likely to have actually occurred.

The Second one is durig the Couric interview, they show a large room of staff watching together, and as Couric is asking Palin the infamous newspaper question, Schmidt shouts out, with heavy pauses, "Name one, fucking, newspaper!" and then "Goddamit!" It really was quite amusing.

All in all, I would say very good movie, well written and very well acted. I highly recommend to anyone who enjoys the political stuff.

I think since it was co-written by Mark Halperin you can trust (as much as we can ever trust a journalist) that at least the source material is accurate.

Mike: Since Palin is more of an oddity now instead of a threat, and since even then she was probably more naive and misguided instead of being an evil tool, I can't feel the same loathing toward her I used to. I said before that she over achieved by being governor of Alaska - makes even more sense when you see the movie.

Pizmo, what I've heard is the same: that there are no actual "bad guys", and I've read reviews that say it was actually pretty sympathetic to everone. As you said, showing Palin as an honest-to-gawd victim (not the "victim" she likes to portray herself as!), and John McCain as well, both in their way.

I saw clips, and one was of that "Queen" moment. Just so damned sad, for everyone concerned, and such a lesson in complete stupidity--not hers, but that of the GOP. I've ALWAYS felt sorry for McCain, for whom I stil lhave a smidgen of respect.

And yeah, from the interviews I've seen it pretty much "IS" Schmidt's movie.

Thanx for the input. Now I'm doubly sorry I don't get HBO so I could get my own impression. In time...
