If it's voluntary, and saves another person OR PERSONS from acts of violence 90 percent of the time, why stop it??? 'Cause it makes a few people cringe??

Makes me wanna go be a doctor in Germany...

Freedom is Important because People are Important

Hello,

You are unlikely to find me arguing against anything that is voluntary and selected absent coercion by someone competent to make decisions.

Sex offender treatment is the growth industry of the 1990s. Chemical castration already looms as a Get-Out-of-Jail-Free Card.

Castration validates the sex offender's self-portrait: He is the victim; he can't help himself. It panders to our ugliest instincts, not the least of which is cowardice—the refusal to call evil by its name.

Nor can castration be defended because the perpetrator chooses it. Leaving aside the obvious issue of coercion, under what theory does a convicted criminal get to select his own (non-incarcerative) sentence?

America loves simple solutions to complex problems, especially solutions with political utility, like boot camp for youthful offenders. The last thing our cities need is muggers in better physical shape.

When it comes to our own self-interest (and self-defense), the greatest sickness is stupidity. Castration qualifies ... on all counts.

IF it worked, which it don't, there might be value, but as it stands, no.

I'm with Frem. Too much gray there, it's not as simple as it sounds. And it DOESN'T work, from what I've read/heard/seen.

The girls in other countries who "volunteer" for female castration because supposedly it would keep them from "straying" outside their marriage...does it have that effect? Is it truly "voluntary"?

Too much gray.

I'm confused...did you read the statistics in the article?? Because they claimed a 80-90% success rate compared to those who opt out... How is that failure?

And who said anything about girls?? Female castration is a whole 'nuther ball of wax, as you aren't removing ability to have sex, just the enjoyment somewhat...

I'll need to think about this one, if they choose it over rehab that doesn't fix the physicality defect in the first place then who am I to say no? Maybe they'll feel better, because I can't imagine they like their bodies reacting to children, no one would like that. Obviously they should still be put in jail for the act though, because the act was their choice and they should suffer the consequences of that choice, castration shouldn't change that, it would be an option for when they get out right?
