Fox News contributor Frank Luntz on Monday made a suggestion about running over the nation’s first black president with his car.

Appearing at an event with Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum in West Michigan, the GOP pollster warmed up the audience with a few jokes. Video of the event was captured by The Grand Rapids Press.

“I actually have a ‘Run, Barack, Run’ bumper sticker, but I put it on the front of my car,” Luntz said.

I'm sure the righties in here will be quick to condemn such behavior, right?

Couldn't merely imply run Barack out of town, could it ?

It MUST mean run him OVER, because he's black, or some such.

This is even a bigger stretch that the 'targets' from Sarah Palin's facebook page.

Get a gorram life.

Am I to understand that you think this is no big deal at all, and clearly doesn't mean anything evil or insidious?

It is rather mean and seriously lacking in taste, but if someone had a bumper sticker like that about me I would assume it was just about me, not about any or all categories that I fall into ethnically, religeously, physically, emotionally, personal interestly etc. But yeah its mean, but generalizing that its about Africanness is over reaching in my opinion.

I found the whole thing a bit humorous, and titled it "Interesting..." because of Rappy's reaction to something I posted a few years back, when he got butt-hurt about it for days on end. I'd suggested something similar about a "Run, Sarah, Run!" sticker being placed on the front of a car, and he was rather insistent that I was therefore advocating violence against all women.

How very odd that he would have such a vastly different reaction to Frank Luntz recycling the same joke, and would insist that it was being blown out of proportion.

As he's so fond of pointing out, it *almost* seems as though Rappy has more of a problem with WHO is saying a thing than with the thing actually being said.

So that all popped into my head when I read the story about the Luntz joke, and a quick Google search turned up this thread:

http://www.fireflyfans.net/mthread.asp?b=18&t=41864

Rappy's reaction was quite different then.

Hello,

That sums up the relevant bits of the conversation, and that last quote nicely sums up AURAPTOR's general philosophy.

It's different, somehow, when he or his chosen affiliates do something, say something, advocate for something. When they do it, it's better, or right, or desirable. When the opponent does it, it's worse or wrong or reprehensible.

He is hardly unique in this hypocrisy. It is a temptation that pulls at us all. We do not want our team to be wrong or guilty or bad. It is simply that he has taken this temptation and brandishes it like a shiny suit of armor, wearing it proudly as though it was a quality to be prized. Because his side is so full of good intentions they really ARE better, and those intentions wash clean their misdeeds and even transform them. He is a true believer. And a true Inquisitor of the opposition.

In my opinion.

I've mentioned this once before, but I think it bears repeating: there's "us vs. them" and there's "right vs. wrong." Many people kinda get these two thoroughly incompatable mindsets mixed up and tangled together. But the more powerfully you feel the one, the less you can adhere to the other.

So, in AURaptor's case, he's gone fully over to the "us vs. them" camp and so right and wrong are terribly conditional on whether "us" did it or "them." Anthony, on the other hand, has committed so strongly to the other orientation that he's found it increasingly difficult to fully endorse any of the "us's" going.

Story, I think a more apt metaphor might have gone more like this:

Guy walks up to McDonald's, orders 300 of everything on the menu, then when people ask how he's going to pay for it, he blames it on the black guy behind him.

Thus are born Anarchists.

I don't really do right-vs-wrong for reasons I've tried and mostly failed, to explain since I do not adhere to the same morality as most people.

That said, taking the perspective of a Villain nicely short circuits that means justifying ends crap cause there's not so much *incentive* to justify any particular action itself as "good" even if that does happen to be the end result - you can just muahahahah and pass it off, you know ?

Not quite. First, you'd have to show me where I claimed that is's promoting violence against blacks and Obama. That's not a claim I ever made, but it IS the basis of your claims, saying that I was advocating violence against all women, especially "conservative" women, as you said.

Read every post of mine in this thread, and show me where I said Luntz was promoting any such violence. I asked the question - aimed at you - *IF* such a joke said about Palin means the teller of said joke advocates violence against all women, does the same exact joke, when said about a black man, advocate violence against black men?

I wouldn't call it an "obsession", merely one more opportunity to hand you enough rope to hang yourself with your own words, which you've done quite admirably. You've quite equivocally shown that you apply radically different standards of behavior to people depending on your perceptions of them and on your perceptions of their ideological views.

The story, as it was presented, was biased from the very first line.

Quote:

The reporter made that inference, as if it were being reported as fact.

And, of course, the point that Obama is " the nation's first black president " had to be added, to remind folks that we can't do or say ANYTHING negative about Obama , with out it being racially motivated.

And you might want to see to that obsession. You've not handed me any rope to hang myself, but you HAVE shown your OWN hypocrisy here. Bravo.

Maybe Kwickie can use some gingko biloba to recall WHY he wanted to put ' Run Sarah, Run' on his front bumper, and how HIS joke differs so drastically from putting the same sort of sticker w/ Obama's name instead.

If he can remember, that is. Or if he can be so HONEST.

AU, I know you don't want to hear it, but Kwicko actually WAS pointing out that it's silly to attribute a statement about a political public figure to racism OR misogyny.

However, it is perhaps TECHNICALLY wrong and threatening to suggest that someone better run from you, for whatever reason, particularly when it's on a bumper sticker and suggests wanting to run them down with your car.

But perhaps it's more complicated than that too. After all, it may be impossible to defeat TPTB by playing by their rules. And when their time comes, they'd all better just hope we don't have kangaroo courts run by a Robespierre, but I wouldn't lose sleep over that scenario, considering what I think they've done to us. I don't really have much sympathy for pillagers, ravagers, and mass murderers.

You ever wonder if maybe society NEEDS that, every once in a while - elsewise we wind up with letting them slither away and sleaze their way back into power over and over again, like they've done here?

Admittedly not creating such monsters in the first place is the best long term solution, but consider that for all the horror involved Robespierre *DID* buy them a significant period of time without that kind of crap, and history prior to that is chock full of other examples where the pendulum swung and the high and mighty got it in the neck.

Awful that such events are, having seen what happens when decent folk stay their hand instead, at point blank range right here....
I'd have to say I am definately leaning in a Robespierrian direction, if for no other purpose than to buy time so they don't blow this planet into a radioactive crater before we solve the real problem.

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

Fox News contributor Frank Luntz on Monday made a suggestion about running over the nation’s first black president with his car.

The reporter made that inference, as if it were being reported as fact.

And when I posted the exact same joke with Palin as the butt of it, you made the exact same inference, and clung to it as though it were a "fact". Were you wrong to do so? You seem to imply that the reporter is wrong in making such an inference.

Quote:

And, of course, the point that Obama is " the nation's first black president " had to be added, to remind folks that we can't do or say ANYTHING negative about Obama , with out it being racially motivated.

Yes, in the same way that nobody can post a negative word about your dear and fluffy lord Palin without it being about her gender. Remember, according you YOUR OWN WORDS, I was advocating violence against all women. Not *A* particular woman, not *A* particular partisan candidate, but ALL women on the planet.

Quote:

And you might want to see to that obsession. You've not handed me any rope to hang myself, but you HAVE shown your OWN hypocrisy here. Bravo.

How's that? By showing your hypocrisy? By showing to one and all that your reaction to a thing will vary wildly depending on who's saying and doing that thing? That you'll vilify a "liberal" for telling the exact same joke you'll defend a "conservative" for? Hell, it's not something we didn't already know about you, Rappy; it's just funny to watch you squirm about as you try your damnedest not to admit the truth of it.

Quote:

Maybe Kwickie can use some gingko biloba to recall WHY he wanted to put ' Run Sarah, Run' on his front bumper...

Thing is, I never gave a reason why. You made one up, inferred it from something you thought I implied, but which I never stated. Your memory seems to be failing you; you should see to that. Mine is working pretty well, as you've been made painfully aware.

Quote:

...and how HIS joke differs so drastically from putting the same sort of sticker w/ Obama's name instead.

How, exactly? Be specific. Spell it out. What is the key, crucial, "drastic" difference? Why do you find jokes you think are about running down white women so much more offensive than ones about running down black men? Is it because you think white women have more inherent "worth" than black men?

Please, explain it to us all, because that's the conclusion I'm left with from your reactions and words.

Yup, that all comes down to the idea of the "benevolent dictator", which might sound like a fine idea on paper, or until you stop and think about it, and realize that, even IF your beloved dictator was the best guy (or gal - we don't judge) in the world, one day they're going to die, and you're going to have to deal with their replacement.

If you're going to have a good old-fashioned purge, you'd better put checks and balances in well beforehand so you know EXACTLY when and where it stops, and how power is dealt with in the aftermath, else you're just going to get a knee-jerk reaction, probably in the other direction.

Prevent it hell, I am COUNTING on it.

Trounce these american taliban rightwingnuts, crush em good and proper and then send them doubledealin pansy ass dems right after them by inciting and aggravating the backlash, once it becomes obvious a flood cannot be stopped, it can still be directed.

I'd rather it not come to that, but by descending into progressively exponential wack-jobbery the GOP is kinda forcing the issue to the point where such things are becoming water cooler conversation.

If someone is gonna get strung up from the lampposts for what's gone down with our society, well a little helpful advice goes a long way if presented in the right fashion.

You're the coward who won't come clean. I think we all know that, some of us just refuse to admit it.

1789 to 1793 or 94, four or five years, that's not that much time really Frem and it didn't turn into the Terror overnight, it began building, probably soon after the changeover occurred, we just don't see it visably until a couple of years later. And people who invent their own calenders in that fashion are just plain weird.

What is it I won't "come clean" about, exactly? I've already come clean about the fact that you had wildly different reactions to the exact same joke when posted by me and then posted by one of your messiahs. That's not even debatable. So what is it you're whining about, then?

And you're still evading the issue., trying to lay it off on me, when it's YOU who won't answer the question.

What was in your heart when joked about the 'run Sarah, run' sticker on your front bumper.

Funny when you say it , about a woman, but not so funny when it's about a black man?

Really ?

Hello,

Oh no! The tables are turned! Must turn them again, and hope no-one notices this makes no sense!

It's the entire point of the whole discussion, Anthony.

For you to say it 'makes no senses ', is beyond absurd.

Hello,

Had I said, "It makes no senses" the statement would indeed be absurd.

Your hypocrisy demonstrated, you are incapable of stopping and considering and saying, "There is some point to this. I did react differently before. Perhaps my judgment is affected by perspective."

We all feel the lure of responding differently to identical issues when presented by friends or enemies. Can you not just admit this?

Show me where I ever said it was funny when I said it. Show me where I said it WASN'T funny when Luntz said it. Do it. You can't, can you? You know why? Because I never claimed either of those things. I offered no judgment at all on whether it was funny or not. Not then, not now.

And you're still evading the entire issue of this thread: Why was your reaction so vastly different when *I* said it compared to when Luntz said it?

And why do you refuse to answer that?

You've been ducking it for quite some time now.
