Given Rick Perry's alliance with the New Apostolic Reformation (see post "Scary Perry") and now his announcement that he will run in 2012...
Quote:

With Republicans expressing general dissatisfaction over the field of presidential candidates so far, Perry's expected entry to the race is considered an effort to galvanize the divided political right behind a contender who can appeal to tea party and Christian conservatives as well as pro-business moderates
.....
His entry into the race will shake up the Republican field, putting Perry into direct competition with Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota for core right-wing support. Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, if she runs, also would vie for that backing.

A new CNN/ORC International poll released Thursday showed 15% of Republican and independent voters who lean toward the GOP picked Perry as their choice for the Republican nomination.

......
Donald Bishop, who spoke to CNN at the Fellowship Baptist Church in Lexington, South Carolina, said he likes what he knows so far about Perry.

"I like what he's doing economically in Texas. I like his stance, his belief in Christ," Bishop said.
To Democrats, Perry represents an uncannily similar opponent as Bush -- both are Texans who portray themselves as straight-talking conservatives who cherish their Christianity and their country.
.....
His appeal to Christian conservatives also is clear. Last weekend, Perry delivered a Scripture-invoking, 10-minute talk at a daylong prayer and fasting event in Houston called "The Response."

Leading thousands of worshippers in prayer, Perry called on God's help to comfort Americans reeling from the nation's troubled economy.

In an apparent gesture to critics who have accused him of mixing prayer and politics, Perry joked, "God is wise enough not to be affiliated with any political party."

His conservative Christian identity considered a likely asset against Romney, who is Mormon.

Asked about Romney, Bishop called him "a decent, clean, moral individual," then added, "I do not agree with all his Mormon beliefs, but I would have no problem with him being ..." His voice trailed off without completing the sentence. http://www.cnn.com/2011/POLITICS/08/11/perry.gop.appeal/index.html?hpt
=hp_t1

Given the belliefs he's aligned with, I find myself wondering about two things. Has he waited this long to jump in, in the hopes his religious affiliations will go unnoticed, or will he now disavow his connection with the New Apostolic Reformation? It's bound to come out, yet I haven't heard much about it...yet. It seems to me that once it does become common knowledge, SURELY most of America will look askance at him as potential President! Or at least one would fervently hope so!

Just when you think the Reps can't get any more bizarre, this clown shows up, totally unnecessary, completely uninvited and without a freaking chance in hell. I'm over being freaked at the thought of one of them actually being our President, time to enjoy the show. Srsly, Jon Stewart and the like must just be loving this election cycle. The hardest part has to be where do you start?

There's also his links with AoG, which as you know don't sit too well with me when they're using taxpayer money to run hellcamps intent on cranking out bloodthirsty crusader types via catastrophic personality breakdown and abusive pyschology.

And a whole litany of dead kids from a dangerous vaccine he tried to mandate, lets not forget that, although the manufacturer and mainstream press has damn sure done it's best to bury.

The fact that the GOP even countenance him and Romney as potential candidates makes em as close to the face of evil as makes no nevermind, in my eyes.

Right on, Pizmo. Unless the Republicans put up somene who can win in a GENERAL election, Obama's a shoe-in. So far, no sign of it. And once Perry's involvement with the AoG hits the media, he's a dead duck.

Niki, if it was JUST Perry and Romney, it'd be bad enough, but there's a substantial chunk of our Gov backing these lunatics, and it's uglier than anyone realizes.

Quote:

Minnesota Teen Challenge describes itself as a “para-church” ministry that completes the “spiritual restoration” of Minnesotans dealing with drug addiction, yet over the last seven years it’s received more than $10 million in government funds — and twice the Minnesota Legislature has singled the program out for a raise.

Quote:

Teen Challenge, an evangelical Christian recovery program connected to the Assemblies of God denomination, is at the center of the debate between the Rev. Barry W. Lynn, executive director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, and Jay Sekulow, chief counsel of the American Center for Law & Justice.

Lynn referenced in his Beliefnet blogalogue last week a recent article in The Minnesota Independent about the more than $10 million in government funds that the Minnesota Teen Challenge has received over the past seven years. The Minnesota government has also raised federal funding for the Christian organization several times during that time period.

Ok, so, 10-plus million, taxpayer funding, which'd be bad enough, but here's the whammy.

Now, while less than fond of DKos, no one else has dared to post dogemporers tremendously well sourced and researched investigation into what *REALLY* happens there.
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/05/01/505299/-Teen-Challenge:-The-d

This one relates to the financial aspects

(Note there's additional links at the bottom which lead even further down that rabbit hole)

And it doesn't even stop THERE - remember those two PA judges who were shipping kids off to a hellhole for financial kickbacks ?
Well some AoG friendly judges actually SENTENCE kids to this place, and despite all the lies, here happens to be the proof - WITH the actual court files.
http://teenchallengecult.blogspot.com/2007/03/proof-that-courts-are-se
ntencing-people.html

Imagine that, being SENTENCED to a religious brainwashing center, here, in america - funded by taxpayer contributions, like something out of a horror movie, only for many teens, all too real.
And of course, insult to injury in that they're also one of those "cure the gays" kinda places, which puts them in good odor with Bachmann as well, just so you know.

You have *NO IDEA* how deep this rabbithole goes
And YOUR tax dollars pay for it.
And some of those candidates, Romney, Perry, Bachmann, they're OKAY with that.

Which is why I am anything but okay, with them.

Here's even MORE background data, including copies of their tax records, and proof of their affiliations with Straight Inc. and other wwasps-involved hellcamps, which is still only the tip of the iceberg.

Just to add, This.
Quote:

Frank Vennes Jr., born-again ex con who served on the board of Teen Challenge MN, was a fraudster and money launderer. According to a federal search warrant affidavit, Vennes helped convince five investors to put $1.2 billion into Petters's companies, which won Vennes more than $28 million in commissions. Previously Frank Vennes Jr. had spent five years in prison for charges of illegally selling a firearm, using a phone to distribute cocaine, and money laundering, but claimed to be rehabilitated after finding God. Frank Vennes found guidance from evangelical Christian ministry while in prison and then upon leaving prison found support from the Assemblies of God run residential treatment facility Teen Challenge in Minnesota. The Directors of Teen Challenge MN knew about his previous convictions for money laundering, drug dealing and gun running but they still placed him in charge of financial affairs for Teen Challenge MN and for fund raising activities. Congressman Michele Bachmann had received many thousands of dollars in campaign contributions from Frank Vennes, his family and lawyer/lobbyist G. Craig Howse. In a letter to the Office of Pardon Attorney dated Dec. 10, 2007, a year after she was elected, Congresswoman Michele Bachmann wrote requesting a presidential pardon for Frank Vennes Jr., she stated in that letter to then President George W. Bush that Fidelis Foundation was "backed" by Frank Vennes Jr. and Bachmann stated that a Presidential pardon of Vennes would be "good for society"

http://medicalwhistleblower.blogspot.com/2011/03/teen-challenge-receiv

So Bachmann has direct links too, as I figured, and THAT didn't take too goddamn long to find, did it now ?
And where's our fuckin media, running around with their head up their ass, as usual, instead of doin their job.

Well, not so much a matter of "getting" scarier so much as it's BEEN scary, this and worse, all going on for decades in a mostly unseen high stakes conflict which I feel the public is better off not really knowin the details of, since there ARE things which can psychologically harm you, just the knowing of...

That said, also take heart that with a lot of this, the way to KILL it is to drag it out into the sunlight, let people see what's being done in their name, or with some of this, being done at all.

And piece by piece, it gets less scary, although sometimes it might not feel that way, we *are* winning this, have been since early 2009, and now it's only a matter of time...

I'd like to meet dogemporer some day and buy that bastard dinner, having his background work in hand saved me months, years maybe, of time and effort put into torpedoing these AoG sumbitches.

Frem, what does AoG stand for? (in words not links).

I'm kind of curious about Teen Challenge now, since there's an afiliate in my area here and I've heard of it, just neutral things until you said its not good. What's not good about it? Obviously the money laundering thing isn't good, but obviously something about it bothers you and if its a trashy place I need to know why.

I think its cool that Parry is a Christian, but him being afiliated with those Oprah the sun goddess people is a bit whacky and undesirable. Plus when I saw him on TV I didn't fancy the energy he gave off, a lil' odd that one.

Assembly of God.

The core of em, the "True Believers" are some serious bloodthristy crusader-type nutters, and they started getting tax money funneled to them under "faith based charity" in exchange for political support via Shrub, and mind you none of that money ever seems to make it into actually assisting the poor, cause there's no fucking oversight to make sure it does, it was a straight political sop and slush money to begin with.

Palin is hooked into em pretty deep via their Wassalia branch, as are to one degree or another Perry, Bachmann, and Romney, although with Romney it's via financial links which cross over between Straight, Inc. and Teen Challenge, the former run by previous Romney financiers Lichfield and Sembler, and the latter run by Assemblies of God - but you follow the money and it all runs through the hellcamp washing machine, remember, I have their tax records.

And since AoG runs Teen Challenge, the investigation thereof gives a pretty chilling picture of what these bastards are all about.
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/4/26/17250/8747/930/503496
Quote:

It is almost impossible to understate just how much of a "get out of jail free" card Teen Challenge was provided by George W. Bush.

Teen Challenge is notable for several reasons. Firstly, it is one of the few groups promoting abusive "kiddie boot camps" that is clearly linkable to a known religious group with documented coercive tactics (to the level that Narconon was linked to the Church of Scientology); secondly, it is a known recipient of federal funds under the "Faith Based Initiatives" program (one of the few abusive facilities of this type to get such funding); thirdly, Teen Challenge acts as a wonderful example of the bad things that can happen when "faith-based" kiddie gulags go completely unregulated.

One reason Teen Challenge has likely gotten preferential treatment from Bush is because it is actually an Assemblies of God frontgroup (and a very closely connected one at that--namely, it's technically a division of its youth ministries program focusing on "troubled youth"). The group operates a chain of facilities (including not only ranches but other inpatient facilities similar to the now-closed "Love In Action/Refuge" "degaying" center) across the US and in several other countries.

Of note (and in a sign that the Assemblies does operate Scientology or Moonie-style fronts), it does not openly advertise its Assemblies links or the fact it is technically an Assemblies youth ministry but this information is easy enough to find, including on the Assemblies' own website.

Teen Challenge has also been the subject of multiple reports of abusive activity--not only spiritual abuse, but physical and mental as well. There are also in fact two expose groups on Teen Challenge--not only a site operated by a Teen Challenge survivor, but a second page detailing additional reports of abuse (and further documentation of the Assemblies linkages).

In addition to unlicensed counselors hired at the Texas ranch (an occurence common across Teen Challenge facilities and one which has led to a known child molester being manager of a Teen Challenge facility in Maine), there was evidence of educational neglect (educationally insufficient material) and reports of physical, mental, sexual, and emotional abuse. And such reports are not isolated; Teen Challenge (which is an Assemblies of God frontgroup managed by their youth ministries division which focuses on "troubled youth") has had many reports of abuse at their various facilities including forced missionary activity, possible violation of child labour laws, forcing people to sign over paychecks to Teen Challenge for not joining additional programs, and the abusive use of "discipling and shepherding", and physical abuse and medical neglect including at least inmate suffering a miscarriage who was not referred to appropriate medical care.

Teen Challenge has also been listed on one group's listing of abusive "faith based" centers--the same site notes that Teen Challenge's present program has close links to Mel Sembler of Straight, Inc, (via his Drug Free America Foundation).

What happens there, cribbed from their own schedules and documents ?

Indoctrination, more indoctrination, slave labor and more indoctrination - or else.
Quote:

Note here that there is practically no non-religious education--no maths, no sciences, pretty much nothing but consistent "How To Be A God Warrior" type stuff. (Yes, there's a reason that even Texas--a state whose educational system has been under severe pressure from dominionists for years--found Teen Challenge's programs to constitute educational neglect.)

The work program indicates that people who do not perform sufficiently well will be deprived of food

And finally, here's the rest of how it really goes...
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/4/29/165243/571/427/504015

We're talkin full-on manson-clan, jonestown style CULT here, dedicated to cranking out "Joels Army" type hardcore dominionist crusader jackboots - and using tactics that go beyond even rendition and waterboarding, they've killed no few of their victims in the process.
http://www.rightwingwatch.org/content/joels-army-and-call

It's a nightmare, a hellcamp, concentration camp for kids, and more or less a brainwashing facility - which as I noted recieves a lot of taxpayer financing, AND kids can and have been sentenced to it for comparatively minor crimes, or in exchange for kickbacks or religious/political support much in the fashion of those two PA Judges who got called on it - which is something *I* wanted deeper investigation of given how many Judges do that shit, but no one else seems to care...

And to top it off, out of the mourners bench of GOP candidates offered to us, FOUR of them have direct links to this shit, Sembler was one of Romneys campaign staff and financiers even though Romney himself is Mormon, and the other three are pretty gung ho AoG stormtroopers in their own right.

I know I ain't exactly all that civil or reasonable in my feelings and attitudes toward christians in general, but bullshit like this, crazy motherfuckers like this, reaching for the reigns of power of THIS government, and idiots who should know better enabling them and cheering them on... that's a lotta why.
Especially when they got DeVos, Erik Prince, AND Blackwater/Xe in their corner.

Again, that's a deep, dark rabbithole, Riona - and I've been to the bottom and back more than once, I have entire file CABINETS of stuff on the AoG and their hellcamp related doings, second only to WWASPS in the horror and the damage they do.
