If US national security required a massive military presence in Afghanistan and Pakistan last week then it still requires one this week whether or not bin Laden is dead. Then again, last week such a presence was not actually required. Obtaining a major symbolic/emotional victory, combined with the winds of political change sweeping across the Arab world, might provide an opportune moment to reorient the American posture.

Yes, CIA killed its AllCIAduh employee USAma Bin Laden in December 2001, via assassination by his CIA AllCIAduh buddy, after Bin Laden refused to confess to 9/11 and blamed the neocon jews in USA and Israel. Then de-thawed the corpse, or killed one of its fake CIA dopplegangers.

"I have already said that I am not involved in the September 11 attacks in the United States. As a Muslim, I try my best to avoid telling a lie. I had no knowledge of these attacks, nor do I consider the killing of innocent women, children and other human beings as an appreciable act. Islam strictly forbids causing harm to innocent women, children and other people. According to my information, the death toll is much higher than what the U.S. Government has stated. But the Bush Administration does not want the panic to spread. The United States should try to trace the perpetrators of these attacks within itself; the people who are a part of the U.S. system, but are dissenting against it. Or those who are working for some other system; persons who want to make the present century as a century of conflict between Islam and Christianity so that their own civilization, nation, country, or ideology could survive. They can be anyone, from Russia to Israel and from India to Serbia. In the U.S. itself, there are dozens of well-organized and well-equipped groups, which are capable of causing a large-scale destruction. Then you cannot forget the American-Jews, who are annoyed with President Bush ever since the elections in Florida and want to avenge him. This system is totally in the control of the American Jews, whose first priority is Israel, not the United States. It is clear that the American people are themselves the slaves of the Jews and are forced to live according to the principles and laws laid down by them."

Red Alert: Government Had Osama bin Laden Frozen for Years

CNN and the corporate media report this evening that purported CIA asset Osama bin Laden has been killed by the U.S. military in a mansion outside the Pakistani capital of Islamabad along with other family members.

In an address to the nation, Obama said he ordered the strike that allegedly killed Osama. The remainder of his speech followed the standard war on terror propaganda script.

A small team of Americans killed bin Laden in a firefight at a compound in Pakistan, the president said in a dramatic late-night statement at the White House, the Associated Press reported following Obama’s address.

“The fight against terror goes on, but tonight America has sent an unmistakable message: No matter how long it takes, justice will be done,” said former president Bush. In 2006, Bush admitted that capturing Osama was not a top priority.

Osama bin Laden died of kidney failure soon after the September 11, 2001, attacks. In 2002, Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf said bin Laden had kidney disease, and that he had required a dialysis machine when he lived in Afghanistan. That same year, the FBI’s top counterterrorism official, Dale Watson, said, “I personally think he is probably not with us anymore.”

A Taliban leader told the Pakistan Observer on December 21, 2002, that Bin Laden was suffering from a serious lung complication and died in mid-December, in the vicinity of the Tora Bora mountains. The source claimed that bin Laden was laid to rest honorably in his last abode and his grave was made as per his Wahabi belief, according to Fox News.

Alex Jones was told live on the radio in 2002 by high-level Council on Foreign Relations members that Osama Bin Laden had died of kidney failure in early 2002.

“I have it from high level [sources] from inside the Bush administration…that bin Laden died of natural causes and that his family has given the body to the CIA, that they’re gonna roll him out right before the election, that he’s on ice right now. They will claim they killed him right before the election,” Alex said at the time.

“Jones gave a caution that the intelligence could be disinformation but claimed that his base in Austin was extremely close to the Bush administration and similar information received in the past had been credible,” Paul Joseph Watson wrote in August of 2002.

During the 2004 election, CNN reported that Democratic insiders had been told that George W. Bush was going to use the Bin Laden body as an ace-in-the-hole if he thought he was in danger of losing the 2004 election. This confirmed the evidence that Jones had been given by the CFR and others.

In 2003, former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright told Fox News Channel analyst Morton Kondracke she suspected Bush knew the whereabouts of Osama bin Laden and was waiting for the most politically expedient moment to announce his capture.

Benazir Bhutto, who was killed in a suicide attack at the end of 2007, stated that Osama bin Laden had been killed by Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, a man convicted of kidnapping and killing journalist Daniel Pearl.

Obama’s announcement follows the release of a highly suspicious birth certificate last week. Both events represent psychological operations that possibly portend more significant events in the days ahead as the U.S. dollar continues to lose its reserve status, the economy fails to recover as promised, and wars expand in Libya, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.

Obama’s propaganda stunt arrives as the Democrats kick off their leader’s presidential reelection bid against a number of Republicans contenders who have been highly critical of not only his perceived handling of the economy, but also his management of the manufactured war on terror.

Report: Bin Laden Already Dead

Usama bin Laden has died a peaceful death due to an untreated lung complication, the Pakistan Observer reported, citing a Taliban leader who allegedly attended the funeral of the Al Qaeda leader.

"The Coalition troops are engaged in a mad search operation but they would never be able to fulfill their cherished goal of getting Usama alive or dead," the source said.

Bin Laden, according to the source, was suffering from a serious lung complication and succumbed to the disease in mid-December, in the vicinity of the Tora Bora mountains. The source claimed that bin Laden was laid to rest honorably in his last abode and his grave was made as per his Wahabi belief.

About 30 close associates of bin Laden in Al Qaeda, including his most trusted and personal bodyguards, his family members and some "Taliban friends," attended the funeral rites. A volley of bullets was also fired to pay final tribute to the "great leader."

The Taliban source who claims to have seen bin Laden's face before burial said "he looked pale ... but calm, relaxed and confident."

Asked whether bin Laden had any feelings of remorse before death, the source vehemently said "no." Instead, he said, bin Laden was proud that he succeeded in his mission of igniting awareness amongst Muslims about hegemonistic designs and conspiracies of "pagans" against Islam. Bin Laden, he said, held the view that the sacrifice of a few hundred people in Afghanistan was nothing, as those who laid their lives in creating an atmosphere of resistance will be adequately rewarded by Almighty Allah.

When asked where bin Laden was buried, the source said, "I am sure that like other places in Tora Bora, that particular place too must have vanished."

France: In Search of Bin Laden's Urologist

1 Nov 2001

Osama Bin Laden may be in less danger from smart bombs than from kidney stones, according to a report in the French daily Le Figaro. In a report picked up throughout Europe the Paris paper and Radio France International claimed the Saudi terrorist checked himself into Dubai's American Hospital in July, where he spent 10 days undergoing urgent treatment to his ailing renal system. "Intelligence sources believe that bin Laden bought a dialysis machine earlier this year which he had shipped to Kandahar," says the Times about the Le Figaro report. "His problem now will be operating such equipment and the risk of infection if, as seems likely, he is hiding out in Afghan mountains."

CIA fakes Bin Laden photo using photo of Spanish politician

Although the former CIA asset known as Tim Osman a.k.a Osama bin laden has been dead since December 2001, the FBI want us to believe that he's still alive, and have created an "aged progressed" image of Osama wherein he has been morphed to look like Spanish politician, Gasper Llamazares. The Feds hope to show what bin Laden might look like now ... if he were still alive.

Even if bin Laden was not long deceased, and even if the FBI's digitally-manipulated image is to be taken as a true indication of how Osama looks in January 2010, one would have to believe that Osama has aged quite dramatically since his last video appearance back in September 2007. I think the image below offers a much more accurate visual description of how bin Laden looks today.

The FBI has created this morphed image of Osama bin Laden and Gaspar Llamazares to try and convince us that bin Laden is alive and well rather than dead and buried. If the Feds can convince enough people that bin Laden is alive, Osama can then be the patsy for the next 'terrorist' attack on US soil just as he was the patsy for the last attack. Although Osama bin Laden is one of the FBI's ten most wanted fugitives, there is, however, no information on the FBI's website to indicate that he is wanted in connection with the 9-11 attacks on New York and Washington. I wonder why that might be.

I suspect that the next 'terrorist' attack on the United States will be blamed on Iran. I'm not alone in this belief. Just as the September 11 attacks were a 'false-flag' operation carried-out by Israel, so too will the next attack. The main beneficiary of the 9-11 attacks was the state of Israel, and it will again be Israel that benefits most from any 'false-flag' attack by 'Al-Qaeda' that can later be pinned on Iran.

Should a grey-haired bin Laden begin appearing in fake videos, said by highly-dubious people with Pentagon and Mossad connections to have been found on an "Al-Qaeda-related website", we'll know for sure that another 9-11 and war with Iran are imminent.

I'd like to see some verification that they got who they say they got, not because I support the conspiricy but because it seems that the "Authorities" are leaving the door wide open for the theories to come flying through. Obama says OBL has been killed and everyone just takes it at face value. No independent verification of the body, and now the body has apparently been buried at sea. It's almost as if they WANT a conspiricy to start up.
I hope there is some solid DNA evidence or we're in for another ten years of conspiricy bull.

And this DNA match... How'd we get a sample in the 1st place? And how long does it take to actually DO a test? Plenty of labs in that part of Pakistan?

Guess Gitmo & water boarding really do work, after all.

You’d think that it would be in the interests of US forces to take a snapshot of the elusive terror leader to milk the propaganda value of such a momentous turn of events, and yet the corporate media has given us nothing but a years old fake picture. This makes little sense, unless of course, somebody is trying to hide something, namely the fact that Osama’s dead corpse has been on ice for the best part of a decade.

According to some reports, Bin Laden’s body has already been hastily “buried at sea,” meaning that the comic book story of his dramatic killing is based solely on the less than credible word of the U.S. government.

Of course, it’s probable that we’ll be treated to seeing all the gory details in due course once Osama’s corpse has been properly thawed and suitably presented for public consumption.

But the fake photo, which is still being used by the likes of the Daily Mail and the London Telegraph even after it was proven to be a contrived hoax that has been circulating on the Internet for years, fits perfectly with everything surrounding the Bin Laden myth – the fake video tapes, the fake audio tapes, the fake claim of responsibility for 9/11.

Everything about the Bin Laden myth that has been rapaciously whipped up by the establishment over the last 10 years has been fake, so why worry about putting out a fake photo and claiming it represents the freshly dead remains of the world’s most wanted?

We don’t need MSNC to tell us, “We think that bin Laden ‘death photo’ is a fake,” because we know it’s a fake. It’s been knocking around on the web since before Obama even took office. Here it is featured in a story released over a year ago. As Stokes Young illustrates, the bloodied face of Bin Laden is an obviously contrived composite image created from an image of Osama that dates back over 10 years.

But that didn’t stop TV news stations across the Middle East, as well as major newspapers in Britain like the Daily Mail and the London Telegraph, amongst a host of others, from passing the fraud off as evidence of Bin Laden’s death.

Despite the fact that Bin Laden’s corpse has almost undoubtedly been safely stored in a highly secure U.S. government morgue since at least 2002, the political grist to be enjoyed by an administration that has plummeted to the depths of unpopularity knows no bounds, which is why Obama victoriously proclaimed Osama’s “death ” during a speech last night almost as if the president himself had pulled the trigger.

The birther controversy and NATO’s indiscriminate murder of children in their pursuit of Colonel Gaddafi will now be swept under the rug and Obama can build his campaign for 2012 on the lie that he was the president who finally brought the evil boogeyman to justice.

Never mind the fact that numerous public officials went on the record to plainly state that Bin Laden has been dead for years and that the announcement of his demise was being kept back until the most politically expedient time.

As Kurt Nimmo and Alex Jones document, from FBI counterterrorism official Dale Watson, to former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, to Pakistani icon Benazir Bhutto, to CFR members, to Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf, all voiced publicly what the evidence clearly indicated, which is that Bin Laden died in late 2001.

The fact that a deluge of provably fake video and audio tapes were released by an organization with direct ties to the Pentagon in the years that followed illustrated how the military-industrial complex was keen to prolong the Bin Laden boogeyman myth as a backdrop against which to launch their takeover of the middle east under the umbrella of the “war on terror”.

But don’t think for a minute that final “confirmation” of Osama’s death will mean an end to the “war on terror” and U.S. troops pulling out of Afghanistan, just as the capture of Saddam Hussein did absolutely nothing to speed a U.S. exit out of Iraq.

If anything, the announcement of Osama’s death will only lead to more warfare and bloodshed in the region. Whether genuine or contrived, terrorist retaliation plots are already in the works and when they are unleashed, the establishment will point to them as a justification for more air strikes, more invasions and more regime change plots disguised as humanitarian aid.

In life, Bin Laden’s propaganda value as an Emmanuel Goldstein hate figure was immense, but in death his usefulness to the US military-industrial complex will, for a time at least, only increase.

About the DNA match - even if you don't have a sample from the individual, you can test for identity by comparing to parents and/ or siblings. It's a large family as I remember. Not all of the bin Ladens live in remote caves.

The death of Osama bin Laden is an opportunity to declare victory in the “war on terror” and move away from the post-9/11 dynamic where American national life is focused on the threat of al-Qaeda terrorism. Declaring victory doesn’t mean ignoring terrorism, it means put the risks back into perspective. The Pentagon ought not to take it for granted that everything it does in the name of terrorism prevention is worth doing.

And forget about DNA convincing anybody -- if OBL doesn't give new videotaped speeches, that's proof he is dead.

Actually, I quoted Rappy's own BS back to him. He brought up Gracie. That was George Burns's wife, with whom he shared a TV show, and their signature sign-off was him saying "Say goodnight, Gracie" followed by her saying, "Goodnight, Gracie!"

Rappy thinks that by waterboarding Khalid Sheik Mohammed 8 years ago, we found Bin Laden yesterday. This is what he actually thinks, according to his own posts here.

Seems if KSM had useful intel on Osama's whereabouts, he'd have been brought to justice sooner. Or was Bush giving him a pass? Neither scenario works out very well for you, Rappy. But by all means, don't ever let the facts get in the way of any of the bullshit you need to keep telling yourself!

Osama has had more than 1 hide out. Anyone who thinks different is truly living in fantasy land. He wasn't residing there, full time, since 9/11. The general consensus is that he's only been there the last 5 years. The Pakistani govt has been oblivious to that fact?( yeah, right )

When your alleged allies are actively covering up for the guy you're trying to track down, while taking the BILLIONS of $ sent to them to fight his organization, it's going to make the job of finding him all the more difficult.

Hello,

Don't be a fool, Mike. This waterboarded guy told us eight years ago that Osama had a hideout that he visits once every eight years. They just had to wait till now, and nab him. Bush and company couldn't do it sooner because Osama only uses this hideout on an eight-year cycle. It was one of 32 sites on rotation, in a schedule memorized by top-level terrorist captains and never deviated from, even in the event of capture.

Honestly, I can't believe you didn't figure that out.

I've got your back, Mr. Raptor.

DREAMTROVE

Dead men take no trips.

What is this meaningless distraction covering for?

PN was wrong: the royal wedding was two people getting married, on a schedule set a long time ago. This is the distraction.

We have a lot of developments in our world war, Turkey and Egypt have turned against us, that's more people collectively than Russia. It was a little hard to find that since Google's top six stories were still about OBL, and the next three were about reality shows.

Next is "How Long Can You Survive on Beer Alone?"

Then are three more stories about reality shows and two more about Bin Laden, and then this one:

Dollar plummets as US Govt. bonds are downgraded to A- (what is A minus?) Well, A means you never defaulted, B means you have defaulted but only in very adverse circumstances like actual bankruptcy, and C means you default sometimes. D means you're in default. The +s and -s are indications of how your future performance is likely to be. IOW: A- is "Has never defaulted in the past, but may default in the future if market conditions are not favorable." Ouch. That's US Treasuries guys. Well, don't worry, Obama gave them a call, and both S&P and Moodys agreed to keep us at AAA, despite having said they were moving us to A-. But those guys are American, and the president can tell them what to say. China, India, Saudi Arabia, Japan, all those guys out there holding US Treasuries, they got the message.

(BTW, the downgrade was the first one the US has ever received in its entire history)

What else are we not talking about?

That's what a ship is, you know - it's not just a keel and a hull and a deck and sails, that's what a ship needs.

Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

Mostly I guess I'm happy for PN; just look how much fun this has given him!

But personally, I don't revel in anyone's death either, and was saddened to see the crowds jumping up and down and hollering "U S A!" I understand it, it's just not my way. I'm saddened by any death, but certainly I'm more saddened by the death of the woman they say he was using as a shield, and I'm glad the Earth doesn't have him around anymore.

As to the DNA, what I've read is that they had DNA from family members, and since our DNA only differs from one another by a microscopic difference, it would be something like 1 in 25 BILLION chance that they were wrong. Given there are fewer than 25 billion people on the planet, it's a pretty fair assumption. One of his wives apparently identified him, as well.

I'm hearing now that it wasn't "in accordance with Muslim tradition" insofar as the burial at sea. That was done because no country wanted his body and to avoid any "shrine"; given no country wanted the body, they DID abide by Muslim tradition that the body be disposed of within 24 hours by burying him at sea.

As to Pakistan knowing or not knowing, I can only say this: Pakistan is more like Afghanistan than any other country on earth. In Afghanistan, one didn't ask a lot of questions, and bribery was a way of life (we called it "bakshish"). If the local authorities, police, etc., were paid off, they wouldn't have gone near the compound, and if they were, no other citizens would have asked many questions, mostly because the first question they asked would have brought a response that made it clear they shouldn't ask. Certainly the police and those living around there suspected it was someone we'd call a "high-value target", or some member of the government who was particularly paranoid, but they wouldn't go beyond suspecting.

Our compound walls in Afghanistan were over 12 feet high, by the way. Everyone lived behind compound walls, and many still do; same in Pakistan.

The waterboarding thing being effective is crap, in my opinion. Supposedly KSM told them there was a courier bin Laden used (AFTER all the waterboarding, when the truly EFFECTIVE interrogators took over), but that was all. They took that gem and worked on it for years, eventually getting the guy's name, then eventually found the compound

And sure, I can see all those folks sitting around (in that photo they're showing everywhere) as having talked among themselves and deciding "okay, let's all sit around looking intense for the camera". Sorry, just too far out for my world.

But don't let any of that stop anyone from spending all their time believing it's all fake, far be it from me to stand in anyone's way, or put any kind of crimp in the joy PN is embracing.

All the conspiracies I've ever heard about were either transparent in the first place (like Homeland Security, the terror color chart, etc.) or ended up being so botched they came out and looked like fools. I have no doubt there are some I've never heard about, some that were successful, but I'm afraid my faith in mankind's abilities to keep secrets and carry out effective conspiracies very often isn't that great.

I've done a pretty good job of staying away from the news, and I'm a healthier person for it. Of course, one can't avoid news such as finding and killing OBL. So here's my one contribution to the discourse.

http://www.salon.com/news/osama_bin_laden/index.html?story=/politics/w
ar_room/2011/05/02/osama_and_chants_of_usa

Quote:

There is ample reason to feel relief that Osama bin Laden is no longer a threat to the world, and I say that not just because I was among the many congressional staffers told to flee the U.S. Capitol on 9/11. I say that because he was clearly an evil person who celebrated violence against all whom he deemed "enemies" -- and the world needs less of such zealotry, not more.

However, somber relief was not the dominant emotion presented to America when bin Laden’s death was announced. Instead, the Washington press corps -- helped by a wild-eyed throng outside the White House -- insisted that unbridled euphoria is the appropriate response. And in this we see bin Laden’s more enduring victory -- a victory that will unfortunately last far beyond his passing.

For decades, we have held in contempt those who actively celebrate death. When we’ve seen video footage of foreigners cheering terrorist attacks against America, we have ignored their insistence that they are celebrating merely because we have occupied their nations and killed their people. Instead, we have been rightly disgusted -- not only because they are lauding the death of our innocents, but because, more fundamentally, they are celebrating death itself. That latter part had been anathema to a nation built on the presumption that life is an "unalienable right."

But in the years since 9/11, we have begun vaguely mimicking those we say we despise, sometimes celebrating bloodshed against those we see as Bad Guys just as vigorously as our enemies celebrate bloodshed against innocent Americans they (wrongly) deem as Bad Guys. Indeed, an America that once carefully refrained from flaunting gruesome pictures of our victims for fear of engaging in ugly death euphoria now ogles pictures of Uday and Qusay’s corpses, rejoices over images of Saddam Hussein’s hanging and throws a party at news that bin Laden was shot in the head.

* Continue reading

This is bin Laden’s lamentable victory: He has changed America’s psyche from one that saw violence as a regrettable-if-sometimes-necessary act into one that finds orgasmic euphoria in news of bloodshed. In other words, he’s helped drag us down into his sick nihilism by making us like too many other bellicose societies in history -- the ones that aggressively cheer on killing, as long as it is the Bad Guy that is being killed.

Again, this isn’t in any way to equate Americans who cheer on bin Laden’s death with, say, those who cheered after 9/11. Bin Laden was a mass murderer who had punishment coming to him, while the 9/11 victims were innocent civilians whose deaths are an unspeakable tragedy. Likewise, this isn’t to say that we should feel nothing at bin Laden’s neutralization, or that the announcement last night isn't cause for any positive feeling at all -- it most certainly is.

But it is to say that our reaction to the news last night should be the kind often exhibited by victims’ families at a perpetrator’s lethal injection -- a reaction typically marked by both muted relief but also by sadness over the fact that the perpetrators’ innocent victims are gone forever, the fact that the perpetrator's death cannot change the past, and the fact that our world continues to produce such monstrous perpetrators in the first place.

When we lose the sadness part -- when all we do is happily scream "USA! USA! USA!” at news of yet more killing in a now unending back-and-forth war -- it’s a sign we may be inadvertently letting the monsters win.

Let's not dehumanize this man, or any man.

Quote:

When my husband was killed on the morning of 9/11, television stations around the world ran split-screen video. They showed the buildings still burning juxtaposed against young Arabs celebrating in the streets. That disturbing vision left me incredulous; it was forever emblazoned on my psyche.

Ten years later, now fully awake in the bright sunlight of the day, when I contemplate the definition of victory for our country when it comes to the death of Osama bin Laden, I can only think about the damage that has been done.

I think about the thousands of lives lost -- American, Afghani, Iraqi. I know firsthand the sorrow those families have felt. I ponder how the billions -- maybe trillions -- of dollars could have been better spent. I remain alarmed about the continued expansion of absolute Executive power in the name of fighting this seemingly ongoing and never-ending "war on terror." I worry about the further erosion of our constitutional rights. I wonder when our troops will ever be called home. I know all too well, that thousands of young American men and women soldiers will never have the opportunity to return home. And of course, I fear reprisal.

But more than anything, I cannot seem to remove the optics of the giddy, gleeful throngs of Americans who took to the streets celebrating in the early morning hours.

Forgive me, but I don't want to watch uncorked champagne spill onto hallowed ground where thousands were murdered in cold blood.

And I don't want to see any ugly blood stained sheets as proof of death or justice.

Nor do I want to think about bullet-ridden corpses being dumped into the sea.

And it breaks my heart to witness young Americans cheer any death -- even the death of a horrible, evil, murderous person -- like it is some raucous tailgate party on a college campus.

Why are we not somber?

Where is the deeper, more meaningful reflection?

Haven't we learned any lessons in ten years? Paid any attention along the way? Gained any valuable wisdom? Are we really better off?

Can it ever be a true victory when so many don't even seem to comprehend the magnitude of what has been lost along the way? Or even what the future might hold?

Was it all worth it?

As my phone rings and the media looks toward me to give them their trite, warm soundbite of closure and elation, I have to be honest, today is not a day of celebration for me.

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

I heard and saw a few comments online and on the radio where people were mad because we didn't drag his body through the streets of Manhattan and hang it from the Statue of Liberty. You know, exactly like those terrorists did to some Americans in Baghdad after the invasion.

I wasn't really surprised that some Americans clamor to be just as evil as some of those whom we claim are truly evil. I'm thankful that a few have resisted the urge.

It's nice to hear a call for moderation and recognition that the death of anyone isn't something to "celebrate". Makes me feel better. I've flipped past the celebration at ground zero; it's embarrassing. And yes, I too lament the attitudes which have been evident in this country in recent years.

On the other hand, I guess people have always dehumanized the enemy and celebrated killing him...that's nothing new, for me. Just makes us human I suppose.

Would I ever go cheer in the streets because someone was dead? I don't think so. Is that apropriate? Maybe not. But what I did sort of like when watching that footage was the sense of comradery, I'm big on comradery. It would have been nice if that comradery had been about something nicer, but it seems people don't spend time being comradely when nice happy fuzzy things happen, they only seem to do it when something, often involving death, really sad happens or when something, often involving death, potentially exciting or significant happens. So can I fault those who celebrated? I'm not sure I can, it was spontaneous after all, at least that night it was, and it brought a sense of closure to many, people sometimes feel giddy whe nthey are relieved and do things that they may consider silly when looking back. I wasn't cheering in the streets, but it happens, just like it happens in other countries when someone they don't like dies.

I'm not in favor of parading the body around or the pike method, I'd like to think, rightly or wrongly, that we are above that behavior, I know I'm above it anyway. But many cultures did that throughout history. I think a simple burrial at sea makes sense, as stated above if we burried him somewhere then it might become a shrine and we don't want that.

Thanx, that's interesting. But it's also confusing. The questionS are three:
Quote:

has the killing of the most wanted man in terrorism made the world safer?

Was his death significant in our war against terror?

And do you have a negative or positive view of this event?

Yet the title is just "How much of a turning point in the war on terror..." So it's not clear exactly what people are responding TO. I feel one way about the first two questions and differently about the third... confusing.

Riona, my problem is that, to me, it's not camraderie; it's mob mentality.

And hey you, people get a LOT of camraderie from positive events: sporting events bring parades...actually parades of ANY kind fit the bill. People celebrate all kinds of things, not just bad things. Lotsa camraderie I remember from standing in line to see Star Wars...or any number of other things. There's tons of camraderie at Cons, and on and on. I'm not sure what spontaneous means...the spontaneity of this celebration comes on the word of news; it's no more spontaneous to me than any number of other things people celebrate.

For me, there's a difference between the two, and I happen to feel this celebration is not of the positive kind, nor do I see it as true camraderie, but rather the false camraderie ginned up by media and government (for many). I can't condemn it because I'm sure it comes from a different place for different people, but I'm glad to see that there are those who don't feel it's something to get drunk and holler "U S A" over.

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

I viewed the crowds that showed up at Ground Zero and the White House as more of a collective "Thank god THAT'S over!" kind of moment. Not so much a "Yay, we KILLED a motherfucker!" moment, but a sense of a great psychological weight being lifted after a long period of struggling with it and dealing with it.

I didn't feel any sense of "How awesome is it that we shot some fucker right in the head and made his brains spray all over the wall after shooting him right through his wife?" What I felt was a sense that OBL will never be able to threaten anyone again, AND nobody will ever be able to use his image to scare us again.

We didn't "win" anything great in all this. OBL fully expected to die at our hands, and his goal and mission was to bleed us as a nation and drive us into bankruptcy. And we as a nation were only too happy to oblige him. He died, but only after winning most of his goals, and fundamentally changing the nature and history of our nation in ways that may never be undone.

I'm not sorry he's gone, no. But I'm also not under any illusions that it's all blue skies, unicorns, and rainbows from now on.

The one thing I am sorry for is that there were kids there when Bin Laden was shot. That's sad, but I suppose that's life, they very well may have seen worse before, living in that part of the world.

FREMDFIRMA

I must admit a failure of personal morality here in but one instance...

Were you to do such a thing to Henry Kissinger, I would probably throw a party, riverdance, and get blind stinking drunk.

I should feel guilty about knowing that, but I don't.

Which rooks me in a way I ain't sure I can articulate, cause really whats the difference between one murderous bastard and another, cause it ain't even (for the most part) personal, you know ?

JUST him, and I don't know why.
