Music is the voice of the soul.

Art/painting is the snapshot/polaroid of the soul.

Writing tries to describe it.

Dance (and martial arts) are its physical expression.

Thanks, KPO! Johnny Marr was (for me, anyway) the ultimate guitar anti-hero. He's the guy you don't really notice that much, until you really start listening - then you realize what a bad-ass axe-slinger he really is.

Speaking of bad-ass guitar gods, here's one of my childhood favorites, Uli John Roth, playing one of the songs he wrote way back when he was playing with Scorpions (1977):

Dude's got some chops.

And color me crazy, but I hear shades of "Caravan" in his intro solo. Here's Thelonious Monk's take on that gem...

Holy shit. Injured? I can't believe somebody could even survive that. There's no way he's not spending the rest of his life in a wheel chair and eating baby food if he's not just in a coma forever.

Pop music, sure.

Good indie stuff out there.

Have you looked at AI generated music? That's really crazy. People are making artists sing songs they've never sung and it sounds like them.

Sure most that play will say pop music is often simple, a catchy child like primitive melody, not complex so its not hard for a software AI to do a simple Rap electronic thing or 'Rave' techno sound or 2 chord, 3 or 4 Chord Pop song and disco groove should not be difficult for an advanced machine. I might have an 'ear' for some beat or notes or musical sounds I've also played around and cut and layered audio and sound files on a computer so I guess I'm not totally ignorant of the 'Art'. Artificial Intelligence is getting better at this stuff, it sounds less 'Square' the voices and instruments sound more real. There might be a time when a musician or vocalist or expert might not even know the difference because AI will have advanced so much it starts adding elements, slight imperfection or accent or swing a note that sound 'human' just like the real recordings, it is moving on to Jazz, world music sounds and Classic music which is freaking out some musicians. The Audio Engineer was almost a job of Wizardy a guy with headphones, he literally had to cut the tape, audio effects, sound reinforcement, layer mixing, instruments reproduction, he had to know when to cut the tape and when not to cut just as film reels were cut, once computers had the power to handle digital audio editing in the 80s and 90s and analog slowly changed to digital, it gave 'The-Machine' an opportunity to learn everything humans do on 'Garage Band' or 'Qtractor' or Audacity or MusE sequencer and Digital Mixing Desks, playing might be different but its a matter of programming and computing power to copy a Guitar or Bass, the Drumming guy was one of the first replaced with an Artificial Drum Machine, Lyrics and Singing might be Different but even that can be learned with AI now doing poetry and it also has the possibility to mimic vocal and lyrics, will AI be as 'creative' as a human I'm not sure but it is already foolish people that it is in fact a real person with its Chatbots.

The pop music is really easy for the AI to do because the vocals were already "sweetened" with auto-tune in the first place in many cases.

If you do a search, you're going to find a ton of believable AI generated songs for Britney Spears and Ariana Grande. I think it's going to be a while before AI can make Brandi Carlisle sing something she never sang before and make it sound realistic.

Vivek G. Ramaswamy
https://www.thecrimson.com/article/2006/12/13/vivek-g-ramaswamy-if-you
-think
/
If you think that debater-extraordinaire Vivek G. Ramaswamy ’07 is intense, you obviously haven’t met “Da Vek.”

“It’s the most shocking transformation someone will ever undergo” says Michael B. Chow ’07 of Ramaswamy’s rapper alter-ego. Though “Da Vek” raps libertarian prose with the utmost of ease, don’t expect to see him in section. The rapper, who fearlessly showed off his skills at the Busta Rhymes concert in spring 2004, only emerges when Ramaswamy is outfitted entirely in black, complete with a black Kangol hat. “They’re two completely different people,” says Chow.

When “Da Vek” goes into hiding, “The Chairman”—the nickname coined for Ramaswamy during his tenure at the Harvard Political Union—comes out to play. “I consider myself a contrarian,” Ramaswamy affirms. “I like to argue.”

The Kirkland House biology concentrator has quenched his thirst for debate through his involvement with the Institute of Politics and debating for the Harvard Republican Club.

Ramaswamy, who was raised in a traditional Hindu family but attended a Catholic high school, describes Harvard as the ideal playground for intellectual sport. He affirms that “Harvard teaches you to be a better questioner…you can be heard even if you aren’t in the mainstream.”

In addition to rapping and politicking, Ramaswamy is one of three College representatives on the Presidential Search Committee and is involved with the South Asian Association, club tennis, and intramural sports. “Vivek has a boundless capacity to get things done,” says friend Nicholas R. Green ’07.

Though described as fearless by his peers, when reflecting on his undergraduate career, Ramaswamy admits that he would’ve been “a little more tactful” if he could start over.

He offers rapper Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” as his life’s theme song. “I think that children should be forced to listen to it,” Ramaswamy says, “the edited version, of course.”

Heard this one on the radio the first time last night.

The odd combo of Mumford & Sons with Pharrel Williams really compliments each other.

I've liked Williams' stuff all the way back when he did Grindin' with Clipse (featured in the Jamie Kennedy movie Malibu's Most Wanted). He also did "Happy" and "Blurred Lines" with Robin Thicke.

Dude's done a ton of stuff as a producer that I didn't even know. He's worked with everyone from Madonna to Gwen Stefani to Wreckx-nEffect to Maroon 5 to Jay-Z. He's even even written songs for cartoon movies like Despicable Me.

Talented guy.

It's no wonder this song sounds so different from anything Mumford and Sons has done before. I like how they start it off with a banjo as is customary for every Mumford song ever played on the radio but then the record scratch comes in and the song is completely different.

I wonder if this song is in any way related to the fact that the Leftist Cancel Pigs went after Winston Marshall in 2021. He split from the band after that so he could exercise free speech without involving them.

This one was on today. I've heard it before but made a note to find it this time.

White Reaper. They did another song I put in the music threads a few years ago.

I really like their sound.

It's interesting that in the chorus of "Pages" they pronounce the word "Intricate" the way they do, to make it rhyme with "Complicated".

I remember in their song Might Be Right I thought the lyrics in the chorus were "I'm always for, a little schadenfreude" but they changed the pronunciation of schadenfreude to make it rhyme with what I thought was "I'm always for".

No... They lyrics are "I always fall, a little short in front of you".

I just thought it was funny to just now see that they actually DID change the pronunciation of a word to rhyme in their chorus in another song.

I heard this one for the first time yesterday and again today and liked what I was hearing. But today when I listened a bit more intently and heard the chorus for the first time and the fact that they obviously dropped the F Bomb quite a few times in the song but the radio station was playing a version where it simply wasn't spoken.

Sure enough, I was right.

Not a song that sounds like it would have an F Bomb in it.

Made me think of The Dan Band doing Total Eclipse of the Heart.
