DUBAI (AFP) – An Al-Qaeda group in Iraq has declared Christians "legitimate targets" as a deadline expired for Egypt's Coptic church to free women allegedly held after converting to Islam, SITE monitors said Wednesday.

The self-proclaimed Islamic State of Iraq (ISI) said in an Internet statement its action was justified by the church's refusal to indicate the status of the women it said were being held captive in monasteries, the US-based monitoring group said.

"All Christian centres, organisations and institutions, leaders and followers, are legitimate targets for the mujahedeen (holy warriors) wherever they can reach them," said the statement. ( Boy howdy! Sure do love that " religion of peace !" }

The group which claimed the capturing of Christians in a Baghdad church that ended Sunday with the killing of 46 worshippers in a rescue drama, had said that the attack was to seek the release of the alleged converts in Egypt.

"Let these idolaters, and at their forefront, the hallucinating tyrant of the Vatican, know that the killing sword will not be lifted from the necks of their followers until they declare their innocence from what the dog of the Egyptian Church is doing," the ISI said in its latest statement.

It also demanded that the Christians "show to the mujahedeen their seriousness to pressure this belligerent church to release the captive women from the prisons of their monasteries."

The women, Camilia Shehata and Wafa Constantine, are the wives of Coptic priests whom Islamists have said were forcibly detained by the Coptic Church after they had willingly converted to Islam.

Shehata disappeared for a few days in July, setting off Coptic protests. Police found her and escorted her back home, triggering protests by Islamists who said the church was detaining her after she converted to Islam.

Footage of a woman claiming to be Shehata after converting to Islam surfaced on the Internet, firing up the protests. The Coptic Church says she was not the woman in the footage.

Wafa Constantine also went missing, in 2004, reportedly after her husband refused to give her a divorce. She was temporarily sequestered at a convent as reports of her conversion were circulated.

The two cases threatened the fragile sectarian balance of the country, where Copts make up about 10 percent of Egypt's 80-million population and have been the target of sectarian attacks

I don't think anyone is denying it. What do you want? Should we focus all military and police on capturing and interrogating anyone even remotely associated with a Muslim? Should we institute a curfew? Should we make it legal just to shoot anyone dressed wrong or with the wrong color skin?

Or am I thinking too small? Maybe we need to take every nuke we have and just bomb the shit out of the rest of the world. We, the greatest country in the fucking world, will rule over our nuclear wasteland. That would be fucking glorious wouldn't it.

But seriously, what more can we do? It's my understanding that we still have thousands of troops in the middle east fighting this war on terrorism, and yes, this war on radical Muslims.

It's also my understanding that when a terrorist threat is discovered in America, it's dealt with as best as it can be, I don't think it's just shrugged off.

So seriously, I really want to know. What more can we as a country and we as individuals, do to fight both terrorism and extremism?

I've already posted earlier that much of what the Bush administration was trying to do was inanely attacked by the hyper Leftists in the media and other areas. Tracking of bank accounts and such is a good start, but for some reason, that was deemed too unreasonable.

I think Obama is realizing the true nature of this issue because he's not closed Gitmo yet. The few that Bush did let out, mostly went back to fighting us, so that's not the answer.

You want a more complete answer ? Sorry, that's above my pay grade. But in general, we need to understand that many Muslims are serious when they say that they want the flag of Islam flying over the White House. That they'll accomplish that goal at all cost. And it's not just red neck, ignorant hicks or folks scared of different looking people who are concerned, but the likes of Juan Williams and Bill Maher as well.

( And those are the one's who have come out and said their piece, in public. You know there has to be many more who feel the same way, but don't want to be hassled for thinking those thoughts )

So you're saying that in a number of years, the "Islamic State of Iraq" might be recognized as a sovereign nation by the United Nations?

I'd bet they'll have renounced targeting christians before that happens. Or, if they have resources we want, we'll simply ignore it if they do target them. Kinda like we do with China.
